i really wanna know how they managed backwards compatibilty with the PS3, unless they did something like adding in a red laser as well as the blue ray, or something weird with focal lenses. I think the X-Box 360 looks awesome but i may have to pick up a PS3 as well, i was gonna pick up a PS2 when the new consoles were released so i could play some PS2 games i've been wanting for a while, but backwards comp. Heh heh, now all i need is the cash....

It'll be easy. Since the Revolution will more than likely have a subscription service similar to Xbox Live and Sony's service you will just download them to it. They will probably be cheap something like 99 cents a game. Kinda like the Xbox Live Arcade. And more than likely also they will release them packaged together something akin to Namco Musuem or Atari's hits.

i know they will do a subscription thing, but they did say all of their games, thats got to be over 5000 games that could be available right?

It probably wouldn't be that many at launch. I imagine it would be like a hundred right off the bat then steadily grow in number. It's a really good idea and they're going to make loads off of it.

Last year when E3 rolled around, I was all kinds of excited to see the DS, PSP, and the new goodies coming out. This year it's kind of like, meh, big deal. The new systems make pretty pictures, and all have tons of extra abilities, but I'm just not ready for another generation yet. I don't think any of the present systems have really been stretched to their full potential, and now, that potential is probably going to go to waste. Zelda looks like it might exploit the full potential of the 'Cube, and Nintendo seems to be the one that will come out last, so they may continue to push thier little box, but Xbox is probably over after this year, and the PS2 will probably follow suit quickly. I am probably just turning into a jaded old fart, but I think we could leave the next gen in the cooker for another year or two at least.

Even with all that, I will admit there are some really impressive things coming. I am not a big FPS fan, but the Killzone 2 demo was really awesome. If it is actual, unenhanced gameplay footage, wow. Nintendo's "download old games" service sounds cool, but I want more details, like where the games are saved, how much they cost, and will everything be available, or just Nintendo titles? Since they are working so well with Sega right now, might we see some Master System and Genesis titles thrown in the mix as well?

Right now there are as many questions as answers. It will all come out in the end, the only thing that is definite is that this console war is going to be vicious. All three have invested a lot of time and money into their consoles and want to emerge the clear victor.

This is great... The PS3 and Xbox 360 are pretty well matched, but the earlier date release and potential costs may put it in 360's favor... Both PS systems have debuted at 400 dollars, and this one may be 500... That's far too expensive...

No PS2 debuted at $300. And PS3 won't go for more than $400 I gurantee.

That $500 tag will go down... Debuting after Xbox360 and at a higher price, despite the better graphics capabilities, is a big mistake... I'm all for sony, but they're not being very wise here... It will drop really quickly, particularly when this news loses them fans in the states and probably quite a few in Japan as well...

EDIT: Is it for sure MGS4 is a PS3 game? Last I hear, Konami was waiting till they got to know the systems better before they decided who they'd go with...

Yeah, above $400 is a bit too pricey for me, and I won't buy one right away if that's the case. I hate to say it, but if that's how much it costs, Sony is making a huge mistake, especially if Xbox's price tag remains at the predicted $299. That's going to appeal to casual gamers a LOT more than 400 or 500 bucks.

I'll probably wait a year or so and buy a used system for less. :D

You also have to realise that these new systems use far more expensive parts and stuff...at least thats what I gathered from reading about em.

They sell the console at a loss and count on the games to cover the losses. Thats why games have gotten so expensive and stayed high the last couple of generations, despite moving to cheaper media (CDs instead of cartridges). Which means that the next gen games may be really expensive, based on how much hardware is going into the consoles.

BTW glitch, can we get a conversion rate to US dollars from that article?

I'm not terribly worried about the predicted high price of the PS3. Before the PSP was launched, analysts said that it could cost any less than $400, but it ended up costing half that (not couting the $50 of extras in the value pack). I'm sure that the PS3 will launch with a similarly competitive price.

As of now, I plan on buying both the Xbox 360 and the PS3. The Revolution is my third priority (friends will probably get it if I don't). I will get the Xbox 360, since it is the first of the new systems being released and I don't feel like waiting for the next generation of gaming (call it the "Dreamcast syndrome" ). The PS3 looks awesome. I also own a PSP, so I am looked forward to see how the wireless connectivity between the two systems will be used (hopefully more fruitfully than the GC and GBA linkage :eyeroll: ).

Here are a few of my favorite games from E3:

Phantasy Star Universe
http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/rpg/phantasystariv/index.html

Burnout Revenge
http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/driving/burnoutrevenge/

Star Wars: Battlefront 2
http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/action/starwarsbattlefront2/

Soul Calibur 3
http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/soulcaliburiii/index.html

Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows
http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/rpg/gauntletworkingtitle/

X-Men Legends 2: Rise of Apocalypse
http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/rpg/xmenlegendsiiriseofapocalypse/

And now for the next-gen titles...

Quake 4
http://www.gamespot.com/x360/action/quake4/index.html

Full Auto
http://www.gamespot.com/x360/action/fullauto/index.html

Perfect Dark Zero
http://www.gamespot.com/x360/action/perfectdarkzero/index.html

99 Nights
http://www.gamespot.com/x360/action/ninetyninenights/index.html

Halo 3
http://www.gamespot.com/x360/action/halo3/index.html

Tekken (PS3)
http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/tekken6/index.html

Now all I need is a preview of Dynasty Warriors on the PS3. Finally, no lag!

YAY! I am so happy! I was really upset when I heard about the 500 dollar price tag... This is a price I can handle... It really just means 6 months of saving rather than, well, a lot more... I'm going to get it soon after release, if I can (unless I decide to do TESOL next year, which will eat up all of my spare money...)

Now I just hope they annouce some really good games for it... Otherwise I may do the unthinkable and go for X-box, provided they announce some really good games for that... Hmm... Silent Hill 5 hasn't been set for any system... That's going to be one deciding factor (if it goes for both, I'd choose PS3, even though they'd have to downgrade it to fit the X-box, hehehe, though konami has said they need the Blu-ray on their new projects because the Standard DVD is too small for what they're planning)
