Jesus Freak

How many of you guys are familiar with the former christian band Dc Talk? I`d assume alot of you since they were basically the most Christian band until two of them went solo and one made a band of his own. Now P.O.D., Kutless, Cross Movement, Relient K, and Thousand Foot Krutch are my favorite Christian bands, but when DC Talk was still around they were my fave...I had all their CDs.

DC Talk / 1989

DC Talk: Nu Thang / 1991

DC Talk: Free At Last / 1993 (It`s a tradition for me to play the song "Free At Last" on the way home from the last day of school. Heh.)

dc Talk: Jesus Freak / 1995 (What made them the best and its 10th anniversary)

dc Talk: 5upernatural/ 1998 (You guys probably know what letter the "5" represents)

dc Talk: Welcome to the Freak Show (I forget what year, it might`ve been before Supernatural)

dc Talk: Intermission-The Greatest hits/ 2001, i think

dc Talk: Solo 2001 (A sample of them making songs by themselves before they actually went solo)

I had hopes they would come back together as a band and when I saw that Micheal Tait started his own band, I had short hopes but in Toby Mac`s ( He was Dc talk`s lead singer for the first two CDs and the other two members had little attention. Once Jesus Freak came out, I didn`t really hear Toby Mac in the songs as much as the other two. Maybe because Dc Talk`s origianl style went out of style........fast. Though i still cherish their self-titled and Nu Thang. 80`s Hip hop was never my favorite) new CD "Welcome To Diverse
City" they got back together and sang a song called "Atmosphere".

So do you like them or have you even heard of them?

I liked some of DC Talks rockish stuff. Could not stand the rap. But I must say I love Kevin Max's solo stuff. I don't like Toby or Taits solo stuff though.

dcTalk is good stuff. Jesus Freak was a brilliant freaking album. Free At Last was the only rap one I liked, though. Supernatural was a solid album too.

I thought everyone had heard of the DCT. ^^;

Kevin Max's solo work is pretty good. Tait's was blah and TobyMac's was listenable. TobyMac was never really a singer...more of a rapper. So when they switched from rap to rock, of course you heard less of him.

I loved Jesus Freak, but I would not say I am a huge fan otherwise. Especially not the rap stuff.

Supernatural and Audio Adrenaline's Underdog were must-haves back in the day. Good times....good times....

Kevin-I havn't heard much of
Toby-He's "popular", but he's not that great (IMO)
Tait-I think his band is pretty good.

Yes, I have heard of them; they have several songs that I enjoy, although (like others who have already posted) I do not like much of their rap. The only exception would be the song "Jesus Freak" itself.

I have not heard any of the members' solo material, but I like the band Tait fairly well.

I have and love Free At Last, Jesus Freak, and Supernatural. Good stuff. IMO, Jesus Freak was their finest hour.

I figured none of you guys would have heard of their origianl rap albums.
Il ove their CD Nu thang though. Plus, I sang their first hit ever "Heavenbound" in front of a public audience back in 3rd grade.

Toby Mac: Momentum- Really good.
Toby Mac: Momentum (All 40 remixes)- Average.
Toby Mac: Diverse City- a couple good songs.

What does IMO mean?

I like thme for a while and got tired of them. I dont really care for toby mac, Tait is nothing special, and Kevin Max's stuff makes me depressed.

Of course, who doesn't like at least one of DC Talk's awesome tunes? I've loved them since I first heard their music, which was around age 5 or 6. I had the privelege to actually go to a DCT concert before they broke up. I was really young, but I still remember how great it was.

By the way, has anyone heard their song, "Red Letters"? That is my all time favorite!! It's very unlike their others, though, so some fans might not have heard of it...

DC Talk rocks! They have to be one of the greatest bands ever. Jesus Freak is the only CD of theirs I own, but I've heard quite a bit of their other stuff over the years, too. I'd like to get their other CD's as well... And as some of you may know, I have Jesus Freak as a ringtone on my cellphone, which I was pretty proud of... Though everyone else looks at me funny. ^_^

I love Dctalk! Their solo stuff is great... even though alot of you guys aren't too fond of Toby's stuff, I think its pretty awesome. Especially his new one, "Welcome To Diverse City". But I've always loved rap and hip-hop type stuff lol.

Jesus Freaks ring tone sounds pretty rad!

Hey, thanks!

I like the solo stuff, too. I have TobyMac's 'Momentum,' 'This Christmas,' and 'Welcome to Diverse City." Good stuff. I haven't gotten the others' solo albums yet, but I like what I've heard.

I really like a lot of DC Talk's songs.

Jesus Freak and Supernatural are some of my favourites - though I also like Day by Day, What if I Stumble, and Collide with the Newsboys.

I'm not sure what I think about them breaking up. I didn't really listen to them much until fairly recently, (The last couple of years I've started to really enjoy and listen to Christian music), but I personally think that most things come to an end and we have to enjoy the good things that have happened but move on. We can enjoy revisits like Atmosphere, and if the band for some reason does get back together, we can enjoy that too. It's just me: I'm not that passionate either way. I just enjoy the music that is there. I don't mind if nobody else shares that opinion/ feeling; that's just how I feel. :)

I think they should get back together if they have something more to do together. If they don't have anything new/good to do as a unit, I don't see any reason for them to get back together just for the heck of it, ya know?

It sounds like they may decide to get back together in the future, but they have no plans to do so at the moment. I think they like the flexibility of being solo. They can schedule more time with their families, etc. At least that's what I gathered from an interview with TobyMac in CCM.

Oh cool! DCtalk back together would be insanely rad... although I most admit, I'm lovin' Toby's solo stuff. I like his version of Atmosphere more than the DCtalk version.

BTW Tom ---->
Now P.O.D., Kutless, Cross Movement, Relient K, and Thousand Foot Krutch are my favorite Christian bands

I have Free at Last and Supernatural, but Jesus Freak is also very good! I listened to samples of their earlier stuff on Amazon.com and thought it dated badly and didn't like it at all. They were my favourite band until I discovered P.O.D (they started in early 1993), but I still enjoy them a lot. They did a huge amount of stuff for the Christian music industry, especially getting recognised by non-Christians.

I meant to add MxPx somewhere in my list on fave bands. DCT are definately the most classic Christian band next to Petra.
