The E3 '05 discussion thread

Postby Link Antilles » Mon May 16, 2005 7:41 pm

The Electronic Entertainment Expo is almost here again. This where all of the games you'll be wanting for the next few years (or longer) will be showed off and have the ever-living-goodness hyped out of them. The holiday of gaming. Man, I hope the 'ol harddrive can survive this year's downloads. It's going to be a big show! Revolution, Zelda, X-box 360 (I liked the X-box NeXt name better), PS3, and on and on and on…. If you can't tell, I love E3 time. It's the time of year, when I'm reminded why I'm a gaming zealot and love playing video games.

This is pretty much a free for all discussion of anything going on about E3, so make sure you bold or quote what we know your talking about. So let's get this rolling..... Just highlight (link) cool or interesting things you found on the web about the games you looking forward to at E3. I guess, I'll start...

Here are a few things I’m excited about right now….

Blu-ray cds and readers are already out, but they cost a pretty penny.

Im supriesed that PS3 looks *kindaalmost* like the 360. Paintjob speaking.
I should drop by E3 someday and hang outside and meet my favorite journalists ( Shoe, all the guys from EGM)

Im all for the PS3.

Heres hoping for a Nintento announcement....

Yup. :thumb: I thought that the Blue-ray would prevent this, but it seems the system supports most basic disc formats.

Here's the list...

CD
PlayStation CD-ROM
PlayStation2 CD-ROM
CD-DA
CD-DA (ROM),
CD-R,
CD-RW
SACD Hybrid (CD layer),
SACD HD
DualDisc (audio side)
DualDisc (DVD side)
PlayStation 2 DVD-ROM
PlayStation 3 DVD-ROM
DVD-ROM
DVD-R
DVD-RW
DVD+R,
DVD+RW
Blu-ray Disc
PlayStation 3 BD-ROM
BD-ROM
BD

This is interesting.....
Along with a firm release date and price point, the other big question surrounding the 360 was backward compatibility. However, Microsoft would only say that the console will be "backward-compatible with top-selling Xbox games." This ambiguous wording could mean that Microsoft will select which titles will run on the next-gen console. However, it could also simply mean that Microsoft is merely being prudent in case some original Xbox titles don't work on the 360, as was the case with some older PlayStation 1 games and the PlayStation 2.

From what I hear, yes it will. The Revolution actually will be using regular sized discs, and will also be albe to play DVDs. As of posting this, Nintendo's Pre-e3 PressCon will be going on in about 45 minutes. Once GameSpot gets it up, I'll check it out and update you humans.

Yup, Nintendo confirmed that a few months ago.

So, let's see, all of the next generation system will have backwards compatibility, wireless controllers, HD support, and online multiplayer. Glee!

I like what I see about the PS3. It's the first Playstation that I'm excited about. The controller looks wacky though. Impressive.
The Revolution also looks really interesting. Small, sleek package and backwards-compatability! It seems that if Xbox 360 doesn't have it, it'd be a major disadvantage.

I'm really interested in what Blizzard has to offer, if anything. They seem to have hid themselves after WoW.

im pretty psyched about the x360, looks awesome, im not too into that revolution design though

*edit*
just watched the g4 e3 live thing,
i cannot stand adam sesler and morgan web, they are the most biased people ever. for two whole hours, they bashed the x360, and the revolution, but they said only good things about the ps3, the other 3 guys on the show i thought were very fair.

i enjoyed the xbox press conference, gears of war looks awesome, so does pgr3
i also liked the nintendo conference, nintendogs looks pretty fun, though i dont have a ds. what is with that gb micro? i think thats too small

I ain't too fond of them either, but they were right in what they said this time. Nintendo will really hurt themselves if they don't show more of the Revolution soon. Microsoft seems to be trying to hard to reach out to casual gamers at the expense of hardcore ones.

Sony did the best job of showing off their new system. They managed to completely wow me with their entire presentation. Microsoft only wowed me with Gears of War and Nintendo with LoZ: Twilight Princess.

i found myself agreeing with them on several issues. i was reseiving mixed signals from microsoft and that turned me off. i mean first there going one way then they run the other then they come back. oh i want one but compared to what the ps3 showed it was no contest. anyways i think the big point of anger at it from them was the way microsoft handled there confrence... it did seem very much pulling a wool over your eyes. i liked nintendos "this is what we have this is what where doing" even though i dont like the way nintendo is going lately. and i enjoyed the insane ps3 tech demos. its to be seen though if we will have the crazy graphics that killzone 2 gave us. heres to crossed fingers and that it wont kill our wallet

from the looks of things, that Zelda game may bring my gc back out of my sisters room where it sits in a corner, occasionally being turned on to play animal crossing. It looks awesome and link is HOT! *fangirl squeal*

I enjoyed the g4 thing... agreed with most of what they said. I'm not exactly a nintendo fangirl, but if they put out a good system with good games I'll buy it. However, Nintendo's gotta step it up and start marketting.

as for 360, I wasn't wowed too much. Not like with the ps3... *still seeing stars* well, I'm not loyal to any particular system. I love the ps2 because of the great range of games on it. RPGs are my favorite and ps2 had the most of them. I'll go where the games are and not worry about trivial console wars. If I can buy all three eventually it'll just be an issue of which games to get.

btw, all three next gen consoles will have backwards compatability, the interesting thing about the revolution is that it will go all the way back to NES

Downloadable content = $$$$$.
And I could easily fill up the 512MB of flash memory with n64 games alone, one reason why they should drop in a 2.5" hard drive.

360 said it would have backwards compatibility for top selling games. This is exactly what he said at the press conference, so I'm a bit skeptical about what exactly this means. With all the consoles we have to remember they are trying to show ALL the good features and manipulate us into buy it with half-true statements. Thats what E3 is all about ^__^

im not to sure how nintendo will do it either, there claim to having backwards compatability all the way back to NES? that is a ton of games, unless they just use existing ROMS or something like that

I am not a huge gamer girl, but here's my thoughts:

Final Fantasy XII: I deeply enjoyed X, and I'm starting to get into the whole franchise, but I am wary of this one. It looks breath-takingly awesome; sometimes I seriously could not tell it was CGI. But I seem to get a very aerial-action movie type feel, instead of an RPG world steeped in story, if that makes any sense. Oh well, at least the princess' name is Ash(e)! How cool is that.

Kingdom Hearts 2: Great to see they haven't dropped this one. Auron + Jack Sparrow?! Rock on! I can't wait to get my hands on it

Zelda: Twilight Princess:
At first I was really confused. I saw the roundtable discussion and the trailer at Gamespot.com, and I was like oh ok. That looks cool. Like Ocarina 2. And I was impressed that none of it was CG; it was all created on the game engine in real time. That makes me very happy. ^^ However when I saw the "official" trailer--the one with the title--I almost thought it was a diffferent game. Something about werewolves and princesses in towers (the windwaker trailers, anyone?)--it looked like a love child between Return of the King and Windwaker. But, I will probably play it anyway.

MGS4: I have to say it was one of the funniest trailers I have ever seen. I won't be playing this game, however Shatterheart is a huuuuuuuuuuuge MGS fan so I'm sure I'll hear the storyline from him. ^^
