Well, Lucas originally conceived of it as a 9 movie series. though after seeing episodes 1-2, I'm kind of glad there won't be episodes 7-9

What was originally episodes 7-9 was condensed into what we now know as Episode VI.
Anyway, this isn't the end of Star Wars. Lucas has said that there are at least two Star Wars television series in the works. How that'll turn out is anyone's guess.
As for Episode III, I have a pretty good idea of the plot and critical spoiler details.

I hadn't heard about the TV series. One hopes that they turn out better than the "Star Wars Christmas" story and the "Ewok Adventures". I think I'm going to be sick...

Also hadn't heard about 7-9 being condensed into 6. Originally, I had heard that it was supposed to be three trilogies of three generations. Of course, I stopped paying attention to all the news years ago so it's quite possible I missed it.

At first I was a little apprehentious about this third one, but I read the article(s ) in Time Magazine about it and I cannot wait. I mean I was excited before, but now I'm thrilled. I can't wait. My best friend and I will probably go together to a midnight showing....costumes and all. ^^;; Reading the article/interview with Lucas was really fascinating...I understood a lot more of what he was trying to do now.

By the way....if someone posts a spoiler here without the tags, I will personally kill you. Seriously.

And slightly off topic, ugh, I can't believe he and Spelberg are still seriously bantering around the idea of a 4th Indy Jones. O.O

Whining about how episode I and II were sooooo bad is pointless. I never expected them to dethrone IV, V, and VI. They flesh out their story and get your money. That's their only purpose. That said, I am way excited about forking my hard-earned scrilla into George Lucas's overflowing pockets to see Episode III. I've seen a bunch of trailers on TV, and I've watched the long trailer probably three times now and whoa. This movie is going to kill me. It looks that good.

This is the only new Star Wars movie that I'm actually pumped about. Honestly, the first two lacked the wit and plot that made the original three such classics, but this movie actually has alot to work with. I was telling someone just the other day, episodes I and II were fillers and background for this.

It had better be worth it.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

 I remember when the Star Wars Phantom Menace came out, one came out, a local station (one of the shock jock ones) managed to score some preview tickets and saw it. They had one of their staff stand out in front of the theater with a bullhorn where everybody had lined up for weeks to get tickets, and began shouting out spoilers. You could hear the crowd in the background over the radio and they had to bleep out a lot of what those people were yelling.

I cannot wait for Ep3. I have loved all the films thus far. (I actually loathe it when fans bash the new ones...considering the acting in the first ones was not award winning by any means) Yes Ep1 was a bit light...but that story needed to be told. I don't think many people are ready for Ep3. Its gonna rock hard. I think it will topple Empire for dark and all...its gonna be a classic.

I thought 1 and 2 were no where near as bad as people say and the art direction is absolutely amazing! I enjoyed Attack of the Clones far more than 1 but that may be because it was darker and Jar Jar wasn't a major character. This 3rd one should be very good.

Yeah Episode 1 was not terrible by any means, pretty mediocre for a Lucas movie but not as bad as everyone says it is. Episode 2 was a step above 1 and was decent. And you're right Shatterheart nobody wanted to see Anakin as a kid or Anakin falling in love, but it had to be told. They want to see Anakin fall and become Vader. While doing a whole mess of cold blooded killing on the side and that's what Episode 3's going to deliver.:thumb:

History repeats itself. This is exactly the same type of posts/conversations people had with the 2nd film.
"Man the first one sucked, but these previews for the second look awesome!"
But we all were tricked. That's what trailers are supposed to do. They make a bad movie look good so people spend their money and go see it.

Why should the third be any different? Oh, because Lucas suddenly became a better director? No. He made the first two for kids (his daughter was in ep1), and that's who the third will be targeted at.

People dislike the first 2, not because it didn't live up to the originals (we knew they wouldn't), but because they were bad movies, period.

I will say that the ONLY hope the third has, is because they fired the screenwriter for the first 2 and got a new one. So all those horrible, corny lines should not appear in the third...hopefully. If it weren't for those lines, I might say the 2nd movie was halfway decent.

Yeah, and thats why its the first Star Wars movie to get the Pg-13 rating right? Blah blah blah, all you elitist fans talk a lot...but really don't say much. Wait till the movie comes out to bash it, which as we all know...you will.

I found the first two disappointing because Lucas seemed to think that fancy computer imaging could take the place of story. When the original Star Wars came out in 1977 (am I the only person here to have seen it in the theater when the original came out?), it was fresh-- something that hadn't been done before.

When I went to see episode 1, I was hoping they would have the fast paced action and witty dialogue of the first series. It didn't It just seemed to be designed to sell toys and videogames. The second wasn't too bad (except for that @#$% Boba Fett as a kid). I'll go see #3, but will probably wait for the crush to die down

Incidentally, talking about whether or not to rate the movies PG13, recall that the rating didn't exst when the originals came out...

Comparing the the modern rating systems though. If they came out now, they would all be PG. The lack of any real violence, language, and nudity would keep it tame.

You HAVE to admit the first 2 were not good. My mom, who has horrible taste in what makes a good film, even thought they were bad.

Would you like me to drag out all the reasons it sucked? That's an overdone topic, don't think I need to.

I believe that most die hard SW fans are clowded by the fact that it IS SW. Just because the title says "Star Wars" it MUST be a good movie? :shake:
Aliens is among my top 5 favorite movies, but I KNEW AVP was going to be bad...but oh, just cause it has ALIENS in it, it must be good, right?

George Lucas can NOT direct. The last movie he directed before Phantom Menace was Star Wars: A New Hope. Then 22 years went by and he forgot how to direct, apparently. He should stick to what he's good at, which is producing.

They are rated now, and they are all rated PG.

And when they came out, there WAS a rating system. In 1968 the ratings, G, M, R and X were introduced.
Then they replaced M with PG (I forget the year), and in 1984 they added PG-13.
Then, in 1990, they replaced X with NC-17.

Believe it or not, there was some concern back then about the violence in Jedi back then (a more innocent era). People were starting to complain that PG was getting to be too lenient. Of course, it took "Gremlins" and "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" (both rated PG) to cause a groundswell for an intermediate rating...

And the elitist fans are the ones that bug me the most.

They've been camped out outside Mann's Chinese Theater for over a month already, and the movie isn't opening for another two weeks. Yet there these people sit, in their stupid costumes, waiting for a movie that will probably be good, but not THAT good.

I mean...if it was a one-time only thing, that'd be different. But this movie is going to be in theaters for a few weeks, and it'll be shown six or seven times a day! I mean...what's the point?

I wonder if George Lucas pays these people to do it as a publicity stunt. Especially considering how below average the last two movies were, you've got to wonder why people would do that.

I'm a HUGE Sailor Moon fan. I'm obsessed with it. I have fifty Sailor Moon wallscrolls, plushies, figures, you name it. But even I admit that Sailor Moon isn't the best anime out there, and I freely admit that SuperS sucked in my opinion.

You can be obsessed with something and still say that it sucks. Saying that Episode I and II sucked isn't going to get you kicked out of the Star Wars fan club. :P

Nope, I liked the last 2. And its not a nuthugger fan thing either. I just don't lie to myself, and say the first ones were anything special. All the first ones had is sentimental. People try to say the acting was better...whatever. The only actor to do squat after them was Ford. But as always with Starwars...your gonna have 2 fans. One yelling at how much everything sucks, then going home and sleeping with his Darth Vader standy, and the other kind that says...ya know, I have enjoyed them all.

I completely agree. That's why I'm not quick to vocalize the criticisms I hear about the new ones; because you're absolutely right. The old star wars are just as lame and cheesy as the old star treks--the only reason any of us like them is sheer age and nostalgia (kind of like my feelings for Gone with the Wind, which I absolutely detest, but that's another story). One of the things the Time article brought up was the fact that with this third film, Lucas focused more on story than the flashy "look what we can do with our computers" attitude that many got from the first two.

The one thing I can hope for in Sith is perhaps some beginning backstory about Solo, or at least his parents or something. I know that will probably not happen, but given they seemed to give many other characters some sort of backstory, a fangirl can dream, right? I think I'd be happy with just a shot of Corellia.

Sorry Ashley, I have to disagree: They weren't cheesy in 1977.

I really think there is a Star Wars generation gap. I remember the original release. Let me explain what it was like: When Star Wars came out in 1977, this was State of the Art. Nobody had done anything like it before. Lucas had drawn on many diverse elements of classic movies and added them to a genre that had previously been seen as B-movie fodder. Good was good, bad was evil, and most people who went to see it, enjoyed it and it became the top grossing movie of all time at the time (until ET surpassed it in 1982). Kids didn't need a child actor to relate with, as they all looked up to Luke and Han... We didn't even have VHS to watch the movies over and over until we got sick of it

Flash forward about 20 years. Rumors had been flying for a decade, and we all hoped to see Lucas tell us more of the story. When "Phantom Menace" was announced, we were all excited. But what happened? Instead of larger than life heroes, we had a collection of jerks and whiners, flagrant contradictions from the original series (if the Force was a compound in the body, then everything Ben and Yoda said in the original trilogy was a lie about the mystical power of the force), uninspired action scenes that relied on computer special effects instead of drama and tension...

When you've grown up having the original series on tape since you were born, it probably does look cheesy, because technology has advanced a lot since then, but if you remember how Lucas made magic then and look at how uninspired 1 and 2 look in comparison, the disappointment is understandable. I'll go see three, and hope I enjoy it, but I really think he should have left it alone at the end of Jedi

...and don't diss GTTW ;)

I agree with Shatterheart none of the acting was ever good in any Star Wars movie but i must say it seemed worse in Ep.1 but 2 was on par with the rest of them...

This has most likely already said but does anyone else know about Steven Spillbreg directing some scenes in the movie...like the duel between Anakin and Obi-wan!!! DUN DUN DAAAAA!!!

I also agree with AH when he said the fights were lame...I completely agree!

OK, I can't take it anymore... This is driving me crazy! On one side there's the people who hate the new films and then there are the ones who try to say that the first two don't have as many problems as they really did.

Shatterheart wrote:I just don't lie to myself, and say the first ones were anything special. All the first ones had is sentimental.

First I'll say that Ep. 4-6 were something special. Those movies were ground-breaking, doing things no one had done very well before. It also had a good story and lots of intrigue. It took us to amazing landscapes and did relatively well with the suspense in the battles. Those movies were and are special.

Shatterheart wrote:People try to say the acting was better...whatever. The only actor to do squat after them was Ford.

Ashley wrote:The old star wars are just as lame and cheesy as the old star treks--the only reason any of us like them is sheer age and nostalgia

Second I'll say that Ep. 4-6 did have good acting. The actors did the feelings and motivations of the characters well. Of course Ford was over most, but the others did their jobs well. Whereas, when we look at the new movies we yet again have good actors with the exception of a couple of them. And unfortunately, one of those happens to be a main character.

Orange Kitten wrote:You HAVE to admit the first 2 were not good.

I enjoyed Ep. 1, it wasn't as good as 4-6 but it was still good. And I'll admit that when I went and watched Ep. 2 I was as amazed as anyone, but once I got the DVD and actually watched the movie, without all the suspense of waiting for it to come out in my head, I realized that there were a lot of things smelling rotten in Denmark. For one, Anakin is not supposed to always look either that he wants to kill something or he's eyeing Padame. Yes he did display his happy-go-lucky personality correctly a couple of times, but more often than not he just didn't act well at all. I still like Ep. 2, I just skip over any part where Anakin is crying, whining, or killing off a race.

If you want to say that you like/hate the first two fine. If you want to say that Haydn is a good actor, you must be seeing something I'm not. But if you want to say that Ep. 4-6 weren't anything special and that the actors stunk you're sadly mistaken. I'm not an elitist fan by any means I just finally got fed up with reading some of these posts.

AnimeHeretic wrote:When you've grown up having the original series on tape since you were born, it probably does look cheesy, because technology has advanced a lot since then, but if you remember how Lucas made magic then and look at how uninspired 1 and 2 look in comparison, the disappointment is understandable.

I LOVE YOU!! I grew up with the originals yet I'm still disappointed with the second. The first, a little, but not as much.
