Question for other girls... about cute villains

Postby Alice » Wed Apr 27, 2005 8:00 pm

I've noticed that I find villians or slightly nasty guys in anime and manga rather attractive. Not always, but enough that it probably isn't a coincidence.

Back when I used to read Fushigi Yugi, I like that villain with light hair, who was so cute. In YYH, my fave character was Hiei, who even after he became a hero was still angry and dangerous. Right now I'm into Beyblade, and (of course) my favorite character is Kai... again, not a baddie, but sort of... quiet and angry. Maybe I just like silent, cute-looking guys. Maybe I just like quiet, mysterious guys. I certainly stay away from nasty guys in real life!

Anyway, I was wondering if you girls experienced that, too, and if so how you deal with it.

Thanks!

Ah, the appeal of anti heroes to fangirls. Although the only villain/antihero that I only went bonkers on was Prince Heinell from Voltes V(a 70s super robot anime).

OH! Like Izumi. . . Me love Izumi. . .
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

O_O A fellow fangirl....the same age as I am...who still drools over anime boys.

Alice, you are my new best friend. I shall love you forever. I'm Hope. *waves*

Nakago is the guy from Fushigi Yugi that you are referring to, I believe, and YES, he is the major hottage. It's probably the "He's a bad guy but just needs a good hug" appeal.

Oh, I totally feel the same way. Lord Alberto from Giant Robo is HOT!

OH COME ON!! You mean no one else found this disturbing, EVEN for Impact?

Maybe that's it. I was kinda hoping to start a recovery club, not join a bunch like minded people, but hey...

...Thanks! Hi Hope! :waves:

I haven't seen the Robo-thing baddie you guys are talking about, so I don't feel competent to comment on him. :)

...Yeah, Nakago. He was so... I mean, the first time I saw him, I didn't know what was going on, I hardly knew what manga was... but I noticed him right away. I thought he was so cute. It's weird!

And I write a lot, but to my knowledge I've never written a villain I felt that way about... you know, that he was cute, and cool.

Sorry if I'm blabbering. It's getting late!

I like some anti-heroes such as Saitou Hajime, Seta Soujiro, Brad Crawford, Nagi Naoe, Anotsu Kagehisa, Makubex, Hiei...but then again, they're not necessarily EVIL per se.

OH COME ON!! You mean no one else found this disturbing, EVEN for Impact?

 I've come to expect just about anything from Impact nowadays. I'm waiting for him to admit that he's really a girl. ;)

Yes Nakago is great. Have you seen any of Go Go Nakago? If not you have to Yuu Watase has a great sense of humor. heh. The only way to sescribe it is its the actors who play the charachters in Fushigi Yugi and the guy who plays Nakago is picked on. He has one mysterious fan who sends him roses. Its absolutely hilarious. But besides that I think that Seishoumaru is nice too. heh heh. And I loved Hiei. Hes just too cool. How about Krad from DN Angel. Now that is one nice bishonen. =) There are a lot of great bad guys who are very attractive. My cosuins were freaking out because I said some bad guy was hot in a video game. They were like "your evil Chris." So I couldn't help but just throwing in a maniacle laugh for good measure.

Hey in Left Behind I thought the antichrist Nicolae Carpathia was the coolest character ever (until he got creepy half way through the series). And in Slayers I love Xellos Metallium who isn't really a villian but he sure isn't a goo guy! So I totally know what you mean!

Yeah, I heard about that. It sounded really funny. But come on, I don't even read FY anymore. How would I find Go Go Nakago?

Yeah, I'm not watching it, but I thought Seishoumaru was cute, too. He probably 'turns good' later, because he showed up in the ending music and looked sad.

That sounds really funny about your cousins, btw.

Yeah, A.r. is like that too. She's freakin' in LOVE with the oh-so-insane Ghinius Sakhalin (which one of my friends just called "the most evil guy in Gundam, hands down). Man, I drool so much over him! *drools over Ghinius*

I think there was a site with it. But its down right now. I have the first part or it because it was put in a short story anthology called Mint de Kiss Me.

Yeah he sorta does. But he still will kill anyone who gets in the way of what he wants.

You know, the more I think about this, the more I think you could be right. Pity factor. Hm.

Well I hope I don't do that with real guys. Definitely I feel pity for the villains I like... kind of like they need it. Maybe that's it after all!

Now I feel better. Maybe I'm not obscenely weird, just sort of... overly feeling about stuff. (Hey, I'm a girl, that's what you get!)

*I* pay attention to that. People like to chose avatars that aren't necessarily like them (let's face it, that could get boring quickly), but like their favorite characters. So you have to pay attention to that.

As cute as villians can be, I always draw a line at their personalities or actions. No fudge about that.

Yeah, if a villain's too nasty, it ruins his cuteness. After all, actions matter more than looks.

Um, I can't think of an example right now. Maybe I wouldn't have like Nakie after he got really evil... or I saw him doing something really evil...

Anyway, I totally don't like villains if they seem unrelentingly evil.

I guess my problem is that even ones who seem nasty but not pure evil, I wonder if it's cool to like them!

I thought of an example. The captain on Last Exile. (I remembered his name this morning, but then I forgot it again.)

He was really cool, I thought, and he wasn't a bad guy, but sometimes he seemed like it.

Anyway, partway through the series it became apparent that he was full of hate, refused to forgive, and lived only for revenge. I stopped liking him after that. He just didn't seem as interesting any more. I felt kinda sorry for him, but I just didn't think he was cool.

Alex Rowe. That's his name. I remembered again. :)

Okay, I had a brainstorm last night.

(Maybe it won't make sense today.)

Sometimes I like characters that seem sort of fierce or tough -- opposites of me. But maybe part of it isn't just perversity. Part of it could be that I recognize in them something that, in myself, I keep hidden or don't even realize exists.

Um, that didn't quite come out right. But what I mean is, strength. And a sort of bad attitude that isn't impressed by anything. I have these things in me, but I don't always recognize or appreciate them. Usually I'm just nice, polite, and weak. But in these characters (who usually happen to be cute guys) :) I can appreciate these characteristics, and, vicariously, enjoy feeling strong and tough -- things which I can't feel appropriately very often in real life.

Just my thoughts... See, this probably shows that I'm just trying to intellectualize it too much. :)
