*steps up to mic* Hi, I'm Ashley...and I'm a recent FF addict.

everyone> HI ASHLEY!

So yeah, I bought FFX on a whim because it was on sale and I'm a total CGI nutcase. I'd seen snippets and well...couldn't beat trying it for 14.50. I'm in love. I don't even LIKE turn based rpgs...but I'm really starting to. And there have been some moments when I thought I'd die laughing...like Kimahri's "funny smell" with Rikkku "tee hee"ing.

Well, I don't know your take on PS1 graphics, but IX is one of the most visually stunning games for the PS1. (A few steps back from X though)

I recommend it cause I think you would enjoy the story a lot.

V and VI, (FF Chronicles) although lacking somewhat in the graphics department (though probably visually stunning for their time) have excellent plots, especially VI.

And maybe I could even convince you to give Chrono Trigger a whirl.....

I felt the same way as Ashley, but I learned to really love all the old school FFs. I`ve come to realize graphics aren`t that inortant with RPGs, althugh it would`vwe liked it more if they waited 3 years till they made Chrono Trigger.

FF12's graphics will be amazing, so stay put for that. FFX-2 wasn't all that good, and there weren't as many CGI cutscenes, but the ones that were there were amazing. I would suggest you bare through the bad graphics for FF7 though O.O <3 FF7!

But isn't FFX awesome!!! A little while back me and my friend played it together and on the way home from vacation one time we played for 8 hrs straight! *o*/ That was fun! But we got so sick of the battle music... ack! After that she came over like every sunday after church and we played it then until we beat it.

Yeah, FFX definitely had the worst battle music of all the games. I think that four and six probably had the best...nine's was pretty good too.

Azier...for a second I thought you said FFXI. I was gonna beat you with a sock full of quarters ranting about how FF should stick to its roots and stay offline. But no, FF9 is good. I keep telling Ash she needs to go through 7,8, and 9 now. Tactics ruled but I cannot see Ash getting into it.

I second that recommendation. :thumb: FF IX is a one of the most charming games, if nothing else. My personal favorite now, next to Tactics. That game was a very much welcome break from the vengeful, angry, depressing, and silent main heroes of 7 and 8. Sadly, FF 9 was only 40 hours for me, which was just to short. ;)

Anyways, as for FF6, while it is a true classic that stands the test of time... the PS version doesn't make it friendly to new players. Load times and really bad sound emulation. -_- Square did a slack job.

Heaven forbid I recommend FFXI to anyone.... not that I have anything against it, but I'm kinda steamed they made it one of the 'main' titles in the series.

Sweet. I think I could swing 40 hours. XD

Eh, I am borderline about playiing 8 and 9; I would at least CONSIDER them. 7 would take some major, major convincing just because it is a little dated and I already know the storyline (which I why I'd play). I do know that up next is X-2; I know that some people despised it and said it ruined RPGs, so I know enough not to judge the whole series on it...but I want to see the end of the storyline for X, you know?

Am I the only one that thinks of VI, VII, VIII as "6, 7, 8" but X and X-2 as "ex and ex-two"?

I dunno...four had a pretty good plot too, y'know. Not quite as much character development as some of the later ones, but I did like the fact that people joined and left your party as the game dictated. I don't like having too many choices for a party. This is why Legend of Legaia is high up on my list too. Same three characters, all the way through the game. Seven I can forgive, because the characters were all so friggin' identical, it didn't really matter who was in your party. :P

I DO agree with you there. Kefka was DEFINITELY the most evil villain of all the Final Fantasy games. Even Sephiroth didn't reach the level of Kefka's insanity.

Although X-2 is often dissed, I wouldn't give up on it totally. Sure, there are some aspects that can get kind of annoying.. such as the total Charlie's Angels theme which nobody can deny. However, the game does have some great aspects, too. I love the dresssphere concept and how you can switch in battle. Plus the different kind of characters you can be is just amazing. I also liked how versatile each of the girls could be. You can have anybody be anything.

I'm not saying X-2 is my favorite.. but I would definatly say its worth getting into.

Plus I am in love with Yu... I mean the CG of the game. ;)

Really? Hey, if you like that, you'll love Final Fantasy Tactics! It's like X-2, only, y'know, GOOD. :D

Final Fantasy 6 is only hard if you don't level up. -Otherwise, it's a breeze compared to the some of the others.

Bah! Insanity does not a villian make. True villians have full use of their reason, and use it to further their own cause, like Sephiroth. Kefka just lost his marbles.

Personally, I consider FFVI to be a bit overrated. It's a great game certainly but I don't necessarily think that it is the best game in the series.

Bah! Insanity does not a villian make. True villians have full use of their reason, and use it to further their own cause, like Sephiroth. Kefka just lost his marbles.

Actually, I don't consider Sephiroth to be particularly sane.

I think Kefka's insanity makes him the evillist villain in the entire series. Here's a whacko who love death, destruction, and Chaos... and gains the ultimate power in the universe.

I would actually say VI is the best... (though IX is still my fave) but, that's probably because VI was my first exposure to the series.

As on the difficulty issue......

FFI: Hardest in the series. Nothing lots of leveling up won't help. (The weenie (Easy) mode in the Origins version doesn't count)

FFII: Easy. There are a couple of tricks for getting your characters really powerful pretty quickly......

FFIII: I actually played very little of this..... I'm planning on buying this for my Famicom in the very near future, I'll tell you what I think. :thumb:

FFIV: Somewhat challenging, mainly because new characters frequently start out at lower levels. (The US SNES (known as FFIV EASYTYPE in Japan) version does not count)

FFV: Not very difficult. Getting characters leveled up is a bit easier as there are only four throughout the entire game. (Technically five, actually, but the fifth inherits another characters exact stats, so that doesn't count)

FFVI: Again, I don't remember this one being difficult, just stay leveled up.

FFVII: Forgot. :eh: I don't remember this one being very difficult though...

FFVIII: Probably the easiest in the PSOne trilogy....

FFIX: Not very difficult.

FFX: Again, Not very difficult.

True, I suppose. Although his reason was about as clear as mud for most of the game...

Actually, Kefka and Sephiroth were both pretty much the same in their goals. Kefka wanted to become a god. So did Sephiroth. I think the major difference is, Kefka SUCCEEDED. At least for a little while.

Kefka mercilessly killed anyone who stood in the way of his goal. Sephiroth didn't kill much of anyone, maybe a few people here and there.

Considering their goals were similar, but Kefka was willing to commit more evil than Sephiroth to achieve it, I personally think Kefka was way more evil. ^^
