I hear it is very true to the comic books and very well made, and alot of people on another board I go to for Superhero stuff really like the comics and want to see the film (infact, the comic's maker is co-director or something of the movie :P). Here is the final poster if it helps at all:

acknowledged. ;) I personally want to see it, though I'll just bare any edgy details in mind, my dad and sister did that too, I hate how everyone gets so freaked if something is "sin" city, does that mean you want take a trip to Las Vegas because the the nickname? it all depends on what and where you are in vegas, not whether you enter such a location at all.

It comes out today (obviously) and in light of new evidence, there's no way I'm seeing this.
I talked with one of my best online friends lately and he said throughout the film there's this woman who you see naked from the waist down. You see her rear clearly, and her, ahem "front part" is covered only by a tiny triangle (sorry for the image). Let's just say it was so bad they couldn't even show a clip on TV at 11 PM.
Also, here are three reviews that might help:
From James Rocchi at Netflix:
"This super-stylish, hard-boiled crime film has a vibrant, vulgar exterior ... and a completely empty heart."

In Basin City, there's both the petty crime of the city's scroungers and crooks and the institutionalized crime of the corrupt ruling elite. It's the kind of town where a down-on-his luck bruiser with scarred flesh and a heart of gold (Mickey Rourke) will risk death and worse to avenge a murdered prostitute he knew only for one night; where a fugitive killer with a brand-new face (Clive Owen) can risk everything to protect his girlfriend and try to safeguard the fragile truce between the police and prostitutes that keeps the city from open war; where a cop (Bruce Willis) can save a little girl from the connected, pedophile-predator son (Nick Stahl) of the man who controls the entire town ... then get framed, serve eight years in prison for the very crime he prevented and still have to protect the now-grown-up woman (Jessica Alba) from a lunatic's rage.

All three of those plotlines have a two-fisted punch to them, but if they also sound simplistic, that's because they are. Adapted from a series of graphic novels -- essentially, violent comic books -- by Frank Miller, Sin City is a chance for Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids, El Mariachi) to try some new moviemaking tricks while playing out story lines we've all seen a dozen times before. Much has been made of the fact that Rodriguez created all-digital backgrounds, sets and exteriors for this film, using Miller's stark black-and-white drawings as his blueprint. I guess the plan is to keep the audience distracted by the bells and whistles so they won't notice how tired the plot is -- or how hollow the characters are.

I once read a blurb for a crime novel in which someone breathlessly gushed that the book's tone was "so hard-boiled the pot's burned black." Well, Sin City is so hard-boiled the stove is on fire -- a violent, raw, grim and blood-slicked slide into the pits of hell. Bear in mind, I'm hardly squeamish about film violence; I like a good meat-and-potatoes action film as much as the next person. But Sin City isn't even meat and potatoes; it's a raw, oozing, bloody hunk of meat with no sides, no garnish and no presentation beyond being slapped down on the plate in front of you with a sneer.

What's more, Sin City isn't so much a tribute to old-fashioned crime movies as it is a set of Cliff's Notes that knows all the high points but can't give the deeper context -- all of the flash with none of the atmosphere and all of the flavor with no nutrition. After a couple of hours of scenes that feel like big finales, you're not thrilled -- just exhausted. People who think they love Sin City may just be surrendering to its unrelenting bloodiness, hypnotically repetitive narration and stereotypical characters (whom over-educated comics fans will convince themselves are archetypal).

Sin City might also go down a little better if it didn't have such an immature vision of women's strength. Showing us a woman in bondage gear committing mass murder with a machine gun isn't a new kind of female empowerment -- it's just a different kind of sexism. Say what you will about Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill, but you knew what kind of person Uma Thurman's Bride character was, you knew what she wanted and you knew why she wanted it. You can't say the same for any character in Sin City; when Owen's Dwight mentions that he's an on-the-run murderer given a second chance by plastic surgery, it's amazingly casual -- pretty much thrown away. I've never expected well-written characters from Rodriguez; his films are exercises in pure, almost weightless velocity. But El Mariachi looks like stage drama compared to the glossy nothingness of Sin City.

Rodriguez has a great cast that he pretty much wastes. Rourke is a creepily watchable standout, but even actors such as Willis, Owen, Benicio Del Toro and Rosario Dawson can't rise above the shallow nature of the material. And the style is engaging, but the hyper-stylized black-and-white footage seems to be saying nothing more than "Hey! I can get away with crazy violence in monochrome that I never could get past the ratings board if it were in color!" (Tarantino proved the same thing with one sequence in the far-superior Kill Bill, at which point he got back to the actual business of telling a story about characters.) Technically, Sin City marks how far Rodriguez has pushed the envelope; the problem is that the envelope's empty.

And we marvel at the rampant misconceptions about anime and manga. Sheesh. Someone please show me where my Angelic Layer was an "essentially violent comic"

Um, I hope I'm not picking a fight here, but Plugged-In really wasn't too keen on the film. Here's their review:

I do have to admit, these guys can make a PG rated movie sound bad, what with the amount of detail they include.

I was going to see it, but I've kind of decided against it. From everything I've read, it's bleak and oppressive, and if anyone else goes to see it, rad, but I've got other things to do with my 7.50 and change.

Yeah...I've heard this movie was a bit...uh...graphic in more ways than one (gross, violence, strippers, etc.) The biggest reason I was given to not go see it is that the Elijah I know and love is in that movie, and his character would forever scar me. That is reason enough for me to stay away, but the others are good enough reasons in themselves.

And that is true that this would be gross and violence movie.

When it was adapted from a series of graphic novels by Frank Miller. Just his name alone is the reason why I wouldn't go see it. I just can't get into writing and comic books.

I mean, the man made Batman into some kind of super freak that doesn't care if has to kill anyone to get the bad guy. Sorry, but that is the real Batman.

i am really not sure what to do with this movie yet, i've gone in countless circles between see and don't see. i didn't see it yesterday (when it was released), because i thought i would have to pass on this film, but upon talking on MSN to my friend (who actually has posted in this thread, but i don't know if he wants me to give his username or not) said he loved it and he described the content alot more tollerably than the other things i had heard made it sound. Overall, no matter what anyone or anything else says are suggests, i will just have to listen for God's voice in this and find out what He would want me to do.

As my father once told me and I agree (although dont always do) "We should stay away from anything that contridicts (sp) or goes against our spirit" I mean 'Sin City' has language ita has nudity it has all sorts of stuff and that stuff with stick in your mind. so no matter how god the movie is or the comics are or the video games are or how good anything was, its best to stay away from it. anything with ANYTHING bad in it, even if its a barely clothed guy/girl is best to stay away from.
I'm not trying to say you CAN'T go see this movie, but I am just answering this question if you haven't got an answer alreay. (i really maybe shouldn't be talking cause theres alot of stuff i do that i shouldn't) but remember. . . we can't be perfect but we should try to stay away from the bad stuff. (I wanted to see sin city also but... alas no hope for me unless it come out like EXTREMLY cut version on t.v.)

I just got back from watching "Sin City."
Before going into it I knew nothing about the background or what to expect. I saw a few trailers and I wasn't too suprised. Anyways, I reluctantlyagreed to go w/ him. Anyways, I was really surprised, it was a really good movie. The story was pretty cool:
Basically it was a total of 3-4 stories (can't remember exactly) focusing around a certain character. The stories were really well done. I'm sure many of y'all have read a few summaries so I won't bore y'all w/ the details.

Content wise.... that people may want to take into concideration before watching:

Nudity- there a a few scenes of nudity and suggestive content. Also there is a City of prostitutes who all wear pretty revealing clothing.

Violence- pretty much the whole movie

Language- errr... what you would expect from an R rated movie.

Overall, I thought the movie was fairly good- original. At first I didn't like the idea of the Black&White concept w/ selective item coloring, but it grows on ya. If you didn't like the ideas of the excessive violence and brief nudity here and there, then I would really think twice before seeing it.

But for of those who can tolerate it, then I would recommend it. Personally, I thought it was one of the better films I've seen this year... I really thought it was going to be a dud, but it surpassed my expectations.

Sin CIty is like #2nd fav. comic book movie EVER!!!! But still for me SPider man will always be #1. for me but Sin City was pretty close.....
oh yeah that preast that got shot in the head THAT was Frank Miller himself.
Serously though I think this movie is another PERFECT example of staying REALLY CLOSE to the source.......since I heard that every word was taken from teh comic book and the comic book creater was one of the directors of the movie.

To make you feel better shatterheart, I read the spoiler as well.

And I was very wanting to see the movie

Fortunately I'm watching Terminator 3, so I really don't care. Actually right now I don't remember what the spoiler was about, lol.

I agree with Agasfas. And also be sure to read the Plugged In Online review. It's very good, doesn't ruin anything, just goes over the content inside the film.
