Hastings put out some of their rental DVDs cheap too, and I snagged
Sakura Wars OVA Vol. 1 and 2
Patlabor the Movie 1 and 2
Serial Experiments Lain Vol 2 and 4 (only ones they had out :( )

There are still a stack of Zone of the Enders there, as well as some other Sakura Wars that I may try and pick up.

My updated collection. Still small but steadily growing. I plan to get a job soon so that should help. ^^

Also, soon I will be getting a burned copy of the first Pokemon film, as well as the first Pikachu short and the Mewtwo's Birth short, all in raw Japanese. ^__^ Let's hope it finally works out this time, I've waited forever and gone throgh hell trying to see it.

Hey all!

Postby eva-boy7985 » Wed Mar 02, 2005 12:52 am

Greetings all! I'm new to this forum. I found the link for this place via Plugged In's website (focus on the family stuff). I usually don't like going to places like that for film reviews cuz I like facts about content, not someone's opinion; n'ways, I was bored since it's like 1 am here, so i typed "anime" in their search engine and this place was mentioned. Most of what they had to say regarding anime was negative or "Americanized" but hey it happens. So I thought I'd check this out, and here I am! Thought I would start off in the collection topic since that seemed the easiest one for me to jump right into without feeling like a complete newb to this place. Here's what I got!

Neon Genesis Evangelion Platinum (all volumes released so far) (there are no words.....)
End of Evangelion (even more of "there are no words.....")
Last Exile complete
Noir complete
Chrono Crusade (volumes 1-3)
Haibane Renmei (volume 1)
Love Hina perfect collection (could you ask for a better romance comedy?)
Tenchi Universe complete
Wolf's Rain (volume's 1-5)
Peacemaker Kurogane (volumes 1-2)
Gasaraki complete
Cowboy Bebop the Movie
Samurai X OVA Collection
Rurouni kenshin season one (wandering samurai boxset)
Geneshaft complete
Witch Hunter Robin complete (very dark and emotional, and good spiritual message and God is portrayed in the proper light!)
Vision of Escaflowne complete
Escaflowne the movie
Rune Soldier (awesome fantasy comedy!)
Record of Lodoss War complete
Appleseed (yes the new 2005 release; it's a bootleg cuz a friend got it for me but didn't know it was bootleg. Great flick though!)
Crest of the Stars complete
Chobits (volume 1-3)
Gundam wing complete
.hack SIGN Complete

Yeah, this has resulted from a mixture of things: watching anime for 5-6 years now, been buying it for like 3, been kind of a retard regarding my tax return money O.o and other stuff I'm too tired to think of. Concerning myself in relation to anime, it may be somewhat obvious that Evangelion is my favorite anime. I'm aware that it's on the "blacklist" of nondiscussables which I respect. As so to never approach the subject seriously again, I will say that it's my fave because, in my opinion, no other anime has been able to capture the human condition as fully as Eva has and, in my opinion, I haven't run across anything with so my intricacy/depth/weavings/layers/etc. (of course mere words alone won't capture how the show is to me....) That's all I will say (hey it's my fave, i need to vent the excitement at some point since this IS an anime forum!) Hopefully saying just those things won't get me in trouble! anyways, any titles i mentioned that aren't complete I obviously plan on completing. If any of you have any questions regarding any of the shows I own please feel free to email me or post a reply and I'll try to answer your questions the best I can! (not trying at all to sound pompous mind you) I've also seen more than I actually own so you can ask about anything and i'll let you know if i've any info on it! I think this rocks that there's a site like this! Anyways, sorry for blabbing guys! i"m just stoked! God bless all of you! I love talking anime, answering quesiton, etc. so send me an email or post something! Thanks!

Hey I've noticed Voice of Distant Star on a lot of people's lists. would someone mind telling me the gist of the story and its overall quality as an anime? I've seen it in stores quite a bit and looked at it, but it would be nice to get an actual opinion (that is besides http://www.animeondvd.com). Let me know!

First off, welcome to CAA. ^_^ second, on the top bar of this site, go to reviews and you'll find Voices of a Distant Star there. Also, if you do a search for it, there are many topics on it.

And I unfortunately have a Detective Conan bootleg (they're terrible; never buy one!) of a TV special. I'm tempted to throw it away; it's that terrible (and it's what I get for trying a bootleg out! )

And in the pictures, you can see my collection (minus my anime movies, which are in their own location across the room) on the custom-made shelf my dad got me for Christmas of 2003. My anime, Looney Tunes, and Walt Disney Treasures DVDs, as well as my Xbox games, are on the left shelf, while my Sailor Moon and Gundam DVDs, as well as my PS2 and Gamecube games, are on the right shelf (along with random knick-knacks and pictures throughout).

Hmm, there is no way I can compete with the rabid fandom for anime since I am waaay picky about my anime (and manga). Greif as much as SRP is for licensed anime who isn't? :p Anyway, here's my censored anime list:

D. N. Angel
Full Metal Alchemist
Bishoujou Senshi Seera Muun (I will now take this oppertunity to gloat over the fact that I have the complete 5th season, fan-sub of course.)
Please Save My Earth
Here Is Greenwood/Koko wa Greenwood

I see that a lot of people are fans of Full Metal Alchemist... this makes me nervous.

Manga:

Please Save My Earth
Hanazakari no Kimi-tachi e
Here is Greenwood (I've waited so long for the English translation, thank God finally! Now I don't have to hunt down 10 year old copies of the original manga... whew!)
Sono Te O Dokeru (I love this Manga! I don't get why I'm not coming across zillions of fan sites for it... but maybe that's a good thing. The English translation is a bit rough on the eyes though. -_-')
Fruits Basket

^The above manga list is censored as well.

Why do you dislike D.N. Angel and FMA?

Sorry! I would have used those lovely accents many have used before when using Romanji but I can't remember the key commands for this computer.... @.@ <<Is so ashamed. Plus I wanted to make sure people knew I wasn't talking about those hack job dubbs. (starts crying) :(

Okay, I don't have too much more to add to the list of anime and I'm on a manga rampage. So, I'm going to see if I can find my way back to the manga forums without getting too lost.

[edit]
Oops, I forgot to answer Jeikobu's question.

I never said I disliked either of those anime/manga. It just bothers me that so many other people like them too... I just had a scary imagine of going into the store to get a copy of the U.S. release only to find it is sold out and that the publisher is no longer producing it. :wow!:

セーラームーン I believe. It's just attempting to transliterate English words into Japanese. And when it comes to the attacks, I'm sure there must be a gaijin employee who is having a big joke at the Japanese expense... ;)
