American Idol 2005 - the best so far

Postby true_noir_chloe » Thu Feb 24, 2005 6:00 pm

Okay, confession time... I have to admit I have been hooked on a show for three seasons now. <.< >.>

American Idol, yes, American Idol.

This is the thread to share who your favorites are in this contest around and to make predictions. Also, let me know what comments the judges made which either irked you, you found were right on target or anything.

This is the American Idol Watch thread, for this season's contestants.

Plus, I have never seen this as your usual reality show - which I really hate reality shows - but rather a truly "fun to watch" talent show. I still enjoy listening to Kelly Clarkson. Couldn't take Clay Aiken, but hey, I never voted for him.

I'll share my favorite judge to start off, it's Simon Cowell. He always says what I'm thinking. I think Paula is nice and all, but Simon is always funny. And, did you notice that the first year Simon played the biggest jerk, last year Randy was always being mean, and now this year, what's up with Paula? Does she seem stressed to you all?

Okay, so far my faves this year are Anwar, Nadia, Michaela and Cassie or Carrie - you know the chick from the farm  . I also thought Bo Bice looked great - old time rocker. Constantine, wow, he's kind of got that whole EVIL thing going for him. *hehe*

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

That's right people! Ostracized us if you will, but we are proud AI fans! Bwa ha ha ha!

Yeah, Paula looks like she's about to have a mental break down. Actually, it's somewhat amusing to see this side of her. That's right girl! You kick Simon if you want to! ;)

Favorites: Anwar and Makayla (wasn't that her name?). But I really like Anwar best. His "Moon River" on Monday was incredible.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. Yeah, Anwar's rendition of "Moon River" was awesome. I was kind of iffy on him until he sang that song. He's also a really handsome guy and a teacher, no less. How cute is that?

I loved Mikaela (sp?). She reminds me of when I used to watch Barbara Streisand as a kid in the 60s. She is so hyper and out there. What did you think of when Simon said "half of America will love you and the other half will hate you?"

One of my faves right now, in the girls, is also Nadia and Cassie/Carrie (man, I can't remember her name). I thought the Cass-Carrie whatever, had the best voice of all. But, Nadia's performance was awesome!

My favorites are Aloha, Nadia, farm-chick whose name no one can remember, Constantine, and Bo Bice. Thank the Lord they're getting some variety in their singers now, instead of just pop singers. Yes, the Simon/Paula fights are awesome to watch.
Crazy thing is, even though this is like the third season or whatever, this is the first time I've watched it. And all I've got to say is that evil dorky Seacrest-man must die! I mean, come on! He totally drags the show on and on in a pathetic attempt to build dramatic tension. Then he tried to grill the contestants after they got kicked off- how cruel was that? Sigh...

Oh yeah, I forgot! I really like Nadia too. Her hair is the stuff legends are made of!

Speaking of Seacrest: Does anyone think they're being unduely mean with the kicking off of contestants? Especially that "The first rows can relax. . . [dramatic tension] Just kidding, you're history." I don't know. It just seemed too mean, you know? Maybe I've forgotten, but I don't remember them doing as much of this kind of crud in previous years.

I really REALLY wish these competitors wouldn't label or attempt to stigmatize Simon Cowell as mean, harsh, or what have you. I agree with you, true_noir_chloe. Simon is by far the best judge out of the three. He knows exactly what he's looking for. I mean, c'mon. Any of you heard of a group called Westlife? He's the executive producer for their CDs.

Ok, enough of that. Anybody know if that one blond guy who had surgery around his throat is still in the competition?

*waves hand* I like American Idol. I started watching last year, although I caught some of the finals for season 2. Clay should have won!! And I liked Diana more than Fantasia last year, although my favorite was Amy Adams. Her performance during the top 32 groups was the best in the whole competition. Simon can be really mean at times, but I agree that he often has a lot of incite into things. He manages Westlife?? Cool, I love their song "Flying Without Wings". Anyway, this year the only girls I really like is Mikala and Aloha. Mikala reminds me of Fran Drescher. For the guys I really like Anthony, Constantine, and Bo, but the one I'm really rooting for is Scott Savil, although it seems I'm the only one. I really hope he doesn't end up getting kicked off juts because of the way he looks. I'll be happy if he at least makes it to top 12, cause then he'll be on the season 4 CD. Then he can go. I agree that he has almost zero chance of winning the whole thing though :(.

Yes, I think so. Hey, didn't you all think his comment to Randy about "stick to your rappers," was just a tad racist? I mean, when I first thought it was Constantine who said it, I thought, man he doesn't get my vote. And then it was Seacrest. Gah, what a dumb thing to say. :brow:

Anyway, for those of us who actually LIKE the show, :P I had forgotten about Scott, Rocketshipper. He has an awesome voice. He just seems kind of strange. o_0 Remember, how he didn't want to practice with the trio? Ah well, he does have a great voice with a great tone.

He's probably just introverted ^^. If I was on that show I'd probably be in the same position. I hate working in groups. The group performances are possibly the hardest part of the whole competition. But he did eventually show up and it seems he and his two group mates were getting along by the time they had to perform.

I'm personally not too found of American Idol's musical style but I do have a question about it... does anyone know if its true that one of the Underoath vocalists is on there? *nervously figets* He's supposed to be all screamy and like "THEY GOT ME UP AGAINST THE WAAAALL!" not singin like Clay Aiken. *cries*

Constantine Maroulis is who you're thinking of, but he was not a member of Underoath. He WAS in a band called Pray for the Soul of Betty, though.

 I kind of agree with you.

Hey, who did you all like the best Monday and Tuesday night? My favorite performance for guys was Bo Bice - he's just so rockin' cool, and my favorite for girls was Mikalah Gordon. I haven't heard such a wonderful rendition of "God Bless the Child" since I listened to Liza MInelli's version on my old "Liza with A Z" album in the early 70s.

I was also wondering if you all would want to add who you think are the top 6 guys and gals so far. Here is a list in the order they appeared - I hope I spelled the names right:

Guys:
1. Mario Vasquez
2. Anwar Robinson
3. Joseph Murena
4. David Brown
5. Constantine Maroulis
6. Scott Savol
7. Travis Turner
8. Nikko Smith
9. Anthony Fedorov
10. Bo Bice

Gals:
1. Aloha Mischeaux
2. Lindsey Cardinale
3. Jessica Sierra
4. Mikalah Gordon
5. Celena Rae
6. Nadia Turner
7. Amanda Avila
8. Janay Castine
9. Carrie Underwood
10. Vonzell Solomon

Here are the best 12, IMHO from best to least favorite:

Guys: 1. Bo Bice 2. Anwar Robinson 3. Scott Savol, and the last 3 can be in any order, I just needed to pick three more. I don't especially like any of these, but feel they have the better voices: Anthony Fedorov, Nikko Smith, Mario Vasquez

Girls: 1. Carrie Underwood 2. Mikalah Gordon 3. Nadia Turner 4. Aloha Mischeaux 5. Vonzell Solomon 6. Amanda Avila (she redeemed herself with her performance this week)

I know the judges like Jessica Sierra and I might replace her with Amanda Avila. I'm still up in the air.

Okay, what do you guys think? ^______^

Bonus question: Who do you think will be going home tomorrow night? I was not fond of the performances by 80s disco guy, Joseph Murena or Constantine, or Celena Rae (sorry my fellow Texans, she's just not very good). I think Janay will be joining her on the way out tomorrow night.

Girls were a little harder to choose. I liked Lindsey, Mikalah, Celena, Nadia, Amanda and Janay, lol.

For my top 6 boys, I honestly don't really care, as long as Scott and Anthony get in. as for the other 4, I think I'd go with Travis, Mario, Bo, and....I don't know. I used to think Constantine would be good, but I didn't like his last performance much.

Top 6 girls?...I think Mikalah, Carrie, Aloha, and Vonzell should probably make it in, but as for the other slots...I don't know.

Who gets sent home tomorow....I don't know. With my luck probably Scott. It's the curse of reality TV.

Who was suprised when Janany didn't depart on Wednesday? I was thinking ":eyebrow: Yeah, you must have been prayin' your butt off, girl, 'cause only a miracle of God would have saved you from that performance you gave Tuesday."

Needless to say, I was surprised.

For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

:sniffle: Aloha got kicked off! :sniffle: She wasn't my favorite, but I did like her alot- she knew who she was and had a huge presence on stage. I'm glad the judges said she should've stayed on longer- 'cause she should've! Oh well- at least I still have Bo Bice and Nadia.

I didn't catch the Girls night but on the Guys night, I dug Constantine and Bo's performances. Constantine throwing the screams in was nice. Bo is just flat out awesome. That guy knows what he's doing.

GUYS this week:

Osaka the manga-nificent one wrote:

Ditto. ^____^

I also loved Bo Bice. I think I enjoyed his performance more than Anwar's. >.>

I'm thinking tomorrow night as long as Bo and Anwar are in the last 12 I'm good - maybe even Scott, because I thought he did well on Monday. However, the rest I could really care less about.

The one to defintely boot off - Travis, you are the weakest link!:bootout: Did anyone hear one note in the right pitch - because I have perfect pitch and could not find one? I think he lost them while dancing around the stage.

ONTO the GIRLS:

NADIA, NADIA, NADIA! Wow, she is soon displacing farm chick as my fave. It's so funny, for the first time I noticed her last name is Turner. I am a big Tina Turner fan, and watching her move around in those high heels reminded me of the great Tina Turner.

Jessica actually won my admiration tonight. She did FANTASTIC!

My poor, Carrie, zzzzzzzzzzzzz, I hope she wakes up during the finals. She's much too good to get overwhelmed by the competition now.

Mikalah, man... I like her, but she was so bad tonight. I want her to do something a bit more modern. I hope she lasts so that I can hear her do something other than a show tune from the 70s.

Janay must go. >.<;; It would have been nice if she even started in the same key, but alas, she began and ended on another song than what was being played. She did, however, look better than she has in the past. A for outfit.

As long as Nadia, Carrie and Jessica make it through tomorrow night, I'm cool. I'd like to see Mikalah, just to hear if she comes back to 2005.:P

Oh yeah, what did you all think of what Simon said about Ryan Seacrest? I'd say Simon was in perfect pitch on that one.

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

The only girl I can say deserves to be kicked of is Janay. She should have gone last week. I pretty much liked just about everyone else except Jessica. She really isn't very appealing to me for some reason. I agree too that Mikalah didn't do very well, but I think she should stay because she has such great potential.
