Neverending Story

Postby Warrior 4 Jesus » Mon Jan 17, 2005 11:17 pm

Does anyone remember the Neverending Story?
I watched the movie countless times when I was little, Neverding Story 2 then came out and I thought it was better than the first, if a bit darker. Neverending Story 3 isn't even worth mentioning as the only good thing about it is the cute rock baby. I later first read the book the movie was based on when I was about 12 and its even better than 1 and 2 and covers a lot more (actually 1 is the first third of the book, and 2 is snippets of other parts of the book).

So does anyone remember these 2 great kid's movies and/or the book?
Or am I the only one?

Yes. I loved the book when I was younger and read it several times; I still have a copy, in fact. I vaguely recall the movies, but not well enough to even remember how many of the three I saw. I prefer the book--but then, that is usually the case for me. It is probably one of the more memorable children's books I have read.
Let others believe in the God who brings men to trial and judges them. I shall cling to the God who resurrects the dead.

Yes, a German guy (Michael Ende) wrote it in German. In 1979 it was published, then English translation in 1983, I think to co-incide with the release of the movie.
The book is 375 pages long (at least my copy is). Highly recommended. Inspirations could have been the Chronicles of Narnia and Lord of the Rings, but ofcourse there are many other influences.

Micheal Ende hated the movie version and asked that his name and credit (ie "Based on the Book by") part gets stripped off the main titles of the movie. I never read the book but I liked the movie myself. Was it that bad for him?

I hated the second movie and the third one I didn't bother with.

Neverending Story: a piece of my childhood! Ha ha! I just loved this movie when I was a kid, despite the fact that it scared me half to death.

I need to see it again and find out just how stupid I was to be scared by it in the first place.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I thought the first movie was the best one; good music in it, too. :thumb: (Somehow I've always had issues with the title though... )

i never remember having seen the first movie all the way through, although i more than likely did when i was young, i do remember seeing the second one all the way through, and have never seen the third one.

as a young child, i was absolutely terrified by this movie, because of the flying dog creature. it just wigged me out when i was 5/6 years old, now of course it doesn't, but the impression has lasted and i'm still not a big fan of the movies.

does anyone else remember fangirl ravings about Atreyu? one of my friends did all through middle school...

???Huh??? That the movie(s) actually do end? Is that what you mean? If so, I agree whole heartedly. I've heard there's a tv series of it. Does anyone have it? I've heard the DVD's are a lot better than the aired versions. Has anyone seen them?

dude, I love The NeverEnding Story. Part of my childhood as well.

Frankly, it's time to bring it back and redo...but not live action...

That's right, time to bring it back in the magic of ANIME baby!!!

PS, the best one was the first movie. The 2nd was ok, but after that it's horrible, don't waste your time.

It scared the socks of me when I was little. I also have a terrifying dream of a sequel of it. Some wierd fuzzy monsters were walking on a fountain chasing me...thats all I remember.
