Old School Anime

Postby Tsukuyomi » Tue Nov 16, 2004 11:51 am

Does n-e one here watch Nickelodeon? I remember I was hooked on it when I was 5yrs. old. Did u know they played anime back then. Yeah, they acually did. I didn't realize this until a couple of days ago. I was trying to remember more of my child hood and tha anime series "The Little Prince" popped in my head. Although, I don't think I knew it was anime back then. Hmm, I guess I've been watching anime longer then I thought. There where some others, but I forgot tha names. What r some of your anime experiences :thumb:

Some other anime titles Nickelodeon played was Lil'Bits and Grimm's Fairy Tales. I don't know about Lil' Bits, but I do know that Grimm's Fairy Tales was actually a Nippon (Studio Ghibli, Miyazaki) production. Cool, ne?

You know, now that I think about it, I do remember watching The Little Prince on Access when I was little -- but all I remember is the opening theme. (Later, in high school French class, I read the book. ^_^ )

As for Nippon, I think The Bush Baby is the only one of theirs that I've watched and it's actually quite good. ^__^ (Maybe I ought to do a review on it, since I don't think anyone else here has even heard of it...)

I watched Candy Candy when I was little!!!! My mommy liked it and thought it taught good morals and so she showed it to me, but I never appreciated it until I was a bit older. ^^;

I remember watching Battle of the Planets (aka G-Force, aka Gatchaman) when I was very small. It was on like at 6:00 in the morning on Saturday (Sunday?) and I'd try to remember to get up and watch it.

The first series I remember catching most of was Speed Racer. Most people my age and older used to call all anime "Speed Racer" until Pokemon made it big.

I thought I would be tha only one who remembered them. I loved tha Grimm's fairy tales. Especially tha Twelve Princesses and Durinda and Duringle (ignore spelling). Do u know where I can get my hands on them? I don't really remember LilBits tho. U r so lucky u remember tha theme song to The Little Prince. I just remember him being naked and tha gurl living in a rose. Oh yah, he lived in space to. Hey, do u remember Estavon And The Seven Cities Of Gold? I think tha gurl's name was Mya. I have to check on it :thumb:

Although I never actuly had a clue what I was watching I was actuly watching Anime since I was about 4 or 5. I remember my favourite Animes were "Aesop's Fables" and "A Journey Through Fairyland" I was always curious as to why the animation was so simmilar between those two movies. My father told me it was because they were Japanese and so I asumed that all Japanese cartoon characters had to have big eyes and be totaly unrealistic looking. Of course now I know better but I find it kind of funny that even when I was little I was still obsessed with Anime.

I can't remember that far back!
All I can remember is that I think,and this isn't anime I know,I remember
watching a couple of the Supermarination shows that were imported from
England. But my memory is fuzzy that far back.
Probably Speed Racer and Astroboy,if I did see any anime when I was
little, since those would have been the two that would have been most likely
on American tv back in the '60s.

Pokemon isn't "old-school." It started in the 90s and is still on-going.
Calling DBZ "old-school" is probably pushing it as well. It aired during the 90s.

I consider "old-school" to be anime that was made during the 70s and 80s...

On the other hand, if you are refering to the first anime that I watched...
That would have to be Pokemon and Digimon... although I did see Superbook, before I even knew that it was anime...

My memory isn't that good when it comes to trying to remember what I used to watch on Saturday mornings or weekdays when I was a kid.Outside of the obvious like Romper Room and The Flintstones I have a very poor
memory of the shows that I would have watched back then. :shady:

Speaking of Superbook, I used to watch this cartoon in Sunday school that I can't remember the name of. It was about three archaeologists that get sucked through a time portal and experience Old Testament stories like the flood and the fall of Jericho firsthand. I thought it was pretty awesome, but I was also, like, eight. Does anybody know what this is?

The title completely has slipped my mind, but I do remember it being a Hannah Barbara production. What was the annoying kid's name - Mogi or something like that?

I'm still puzzles. I never seen it or heard of it. I just remembered they used to play this one cartoon on Nick with these animal kids. There were koalas, rabbits, and penguins. I remember one episode that sticks out in my head. It was "The Goddess Of The Moon". I should really check on those.

THe name of the Hanna Barbera Cartoon is "The Greatest Adventures" or something like that. I have some tapes of it sitting at home collecting dust.

I'll check the name and either post the name in a reply, or if this thread hasn't been touched, I'll just edit it into this post.

I remember getting up early to watch Sailor Moon in 1995 (or so). I also recall seeing Speed Racer, Transformers, and Dragonball Z in the early 90s.
