Bad router problems

Postby Slater » Sat Oct 30, 2004 8:05 pm

(yes, I know that this is the second thread talking about issues with routers, but this one is different)

Well, I went to the linksys website to try and figure some stuff out about my router and I followed some of their instructions word-for-word, and now my computer (other comp besides this adware-ridden thing) is just totallly not cooperating with me. I was unable to access my router's linksys control pannel, so I thought that following the instructions they gave me would be good. here is what I did.
TCP/IP Protocol>propperties. I deselected "Obtain an IP address automaticly" and selected "Use the following IP addresses." these IP addresses were as follows:
IP address - 192.168.1.20
Subnet mask - 255.255.255.0
Default gateway - 192.168.1.1

Well, after doing this, I found that my network problems only worsened, and the whole time I THOUGHT that I would be able to simply select "Obtain an IP address automaticly" again and everything would be good. No, that wasn't the case. Now I have absolutely no network connecttivity (message is something like "Little or no connectivity avaliable") to the internet, control pannel, messenger services, shared folders, etc... and that is VERY not kewl. my comp is not obtaining a correct IP addresses and that is not good. Does anyone out there have any clues for how to make things good again?

ok, I fixed it. all I had to do was take the IP address of my downstairs computer (192.168.1.100) and make it for my computer by adding 0.0.0.005 to it (thus this computer's network IP is now 192.168.1.105). I added the normal Subnet (255.255.255.0) and Gateway (192.168.1.1) IPs. Then I also took the DNS server addresses (two of them and NO I will not tell them to you :p ) from the computer downstairs, wrote them down, and added them in TCP/IP. now everything is working again... but I STILL can't even get to the login of the control pannel! --; what a system...

well there's the Linksys control pannel and then the Network connections control pannel... if I could have gotten to the Linksys one, none of this would have happened, really.

lol
We in our foolishness thought we were wise
He played the fool and He opened our eyes
We in our weakness believed we were strong
He became helpless to show we were wrong
