shoutcast and router

I'm being driven insane by the want to set my shoutcast server up on my new computer. I had done it easily before on my other computer and it was very fun watching people connect, stay connected and listening to my station for hours at a time, and just experiancing what it could be like to be a DJ.
But now, I can't get it working on this new computer! The only thing that I can think of that's getting in my way is my router, which I did not have before when I was broadcasting. I always get the following error in the DNAS window...

<10/29/04@22:13:32> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave error (nak)
<10/29/04@22:13:32> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (Cannot see your station/computer (IP: 67.170.210.192:8000) from the Internet, disable Internet Sharing/NAT/firewall/ISP cache (Connection timed out))

any tips?

Do you have your router set up to forward that port to your machine behind your firewall? If you are trying to secure inbound connections, you almost certainly need that...

What kind of router are you using? I use a Linksys - which makes port forwarding VERY easy. I've heard of very few - but Linksys is a very common one. If you're using ZoneAlarm, un-install it...because ZoneAlarm screws up everything on your computer. This from experience.

Yeah... What kind of router do you have? That would make it easier for us to help. Those instructions SHOULD be in the instrution manual - or you can usually download the manual from the internet if you can read the model number off the router.

I am using linksys. But I can't get to the router controlpanel (typing http://192.168.1.1 into browser), which is REALLY weird since I am going in with Admin security settings and that I have never been denied access to the LOGIN screen before... this is a brand new problem for me. I've read through the manuals to the thing to see why my browser is giving me the "connection refused" error when I try going in there, but they say nothing of it.

What is the IP address on your computer? Some of the linksys boxes have their default address set 10 192.168.0.1

update... I reset my router (little white button on back of the blasted thing) and now I am able to get into my control pannel! ^_^

I went into "Applications and Gaming" and there is 1 thing that I am not quite sure on. It's the "application" ... do I have to put a specific filename in there, or could I just put something as simple as "Shoutcast"?

OOOOH! That was my problem! ... ^^; *had IP set to 192.168.1.105 when it was really 192.168.1.125

well... for those of you wondering (probably noone), my server will play 2 things.
1. Music (Symphonic Metal, Rock, videogame music, a few anime songs)
2. Sermons from my church. YES. I broadcast sermons at a very 56k-friendly level, so if anyone wants to listen in, contact me and I'll be sure to set you up with a stream as soon as I get CDs!

Ah... in celebration of this getting shoutcast up, I'm gonna (try to) leave the server up all night. The url is http://www.shoutcast.com/sbin/shoutcast-playlist.pls?rn=351164&file=filename.pls
and it is set to a bitrate of 128 kbps, so you probably want at least a DSL connection (actually, DSL should be wonderful for it)... enjoy!

Be wary, though. Your router will give you different IP addresses if you aren't carefull. That's a DHCP address you have, so if it ever doesn't work, you may end up having to set your machine to use a static IP. If you need more help, you can always post here again.

update: my friend was complaining of choppieness... which didn't make sense when my upstream is over 1 mbps and his downstream is about 200kbps ... so now it's set to 96 kbps and the url is http://www.shoutcast.com/sbin/shoutcast-playlist.pls?rn=351164&file=filename.pls
