Switching Ipod from mac to pc for harddrive usage

if i put some avi files from my pc onto my mac, (its already configured with mac) do i have to reconfigure it for pc, add avis in it, then have it reconfigured for the mac, therfore not being able to transfer data or what?

if that somehow wasn't comprehendable

I have a mac

i also have a pc

there are files on my pc that i want on my mac

if i add stuff to my pc, itll reconfigure my ipod

if i connect it to the mac, it'll reconfigure again, deleting the harddrive.

Is that true? becasue i want to make sure
