MSN IM worm!

Postby ShiroiHikari » Mon Oct 11, 2004 6:10 pm

apparently a new worm is spreading via MSN messenger...have a look at this story.

I'd advise everyone to stay away from MSNIM for a few days until this business gets sorted out. it's not working correctly anyway...

AOL and Yahoo! must be grinning ear to ear.

Note that you have to actually run the file for the infection to spread -- it can't spread simply through having MSNIM open, much as an attachment can't unleash its payload until you open it. Being appropriately suspicious of any .exe someone is sending you, even a friend, would be wise.

wow, good thing i don't use MSN. :jump: I use AIM but only get on it about a couple times a week. I think that could happen to any Chating program like Yahoo IM, MSN, or AIM and perhaps ICQ. That's why I scan everything after download anything. Anyways, thanks for the head up ShiroiHikari.

Wow. I didnt know that at all thanks for the information. I'll keep that in mind.I wonder if this was the reason msn wasnt working properly last night. Maybe they were attempting to fix this problem or something.

MSN has had a lot of outages recently, but Microsoft isn't saying why. Many have proposed that the worm was a reason, though.
