Manga Suggestions!?

Postby Dragon Master » Thu Oct 07, 2004 6:35 am

Hey every one, i'm looking for a good manga to read any suggestions? It can't have any language worse than using God's name in vain, or what the <devil's Home> a few times, or something like that, sucks, and crap is ok too. No PG-13+ "content" ;) and no excessive blood and gore. So despite the limits does any one know of anything that would be good? (oh yeah no nudity which kinda fits under no content but oh well) Thanks in advance! :thumb:
[Edit] Um I'm not too picky about what I read like religion I could care less because I know my religion so I'm not going to change either. Um not too much magic though (again I could care less but this falls under a parental thing... ) Like I used to watch card captors and I used to watch Jackie Chan Adventures and stuff but my parents don't seem to like witches and wizards and spell casting and stuff (even though Jackie chan made the cut) I've also seen all three of the lord of the rings so any magic in those categories is pretty much fine.I'm sorry if this limits me too much but this edit covers my parents guidelines so again thanks in advance for your help!

hm, well the language issue poses as a problem consider most all Manga (in the US) has some in it. Maybe you should get a thing of whiteout.

clean: Gon (this is the coolest manga cause it's extremely detailed, hilarious, and readable in any country cause there's no words. But it's still GREAT!)
Megaman NT Warrior doesn't have any cussing I don't think....

All the other mangas I like have at least a tad bit of nudity and lotsa language in it, so sorry buddy.

First off, I want to commend you for trying to stick to your parents guidelines rather than sneak in stuff behind their back. That really says volumes of good things about you and your character, so I encourage you to keep it up!

What genre of things do you like? What are some anime or manga titles you enjoyed in the past?

Um well, I used to like poke'mon but i've kinda grown out of it now. Well its kind of funny seeing as how much I love to draw Anime/Manga I haven't really watched or read a whole lot of it. Hm let me think...Like I said before I used to watch card captors when that was on, I play legend of zelda, I have actually read the poke'mon manga already (and as far as I can remember its the only one i've read) I really like adventure sword fighting kind of thing. I am currently playing Fire Emblem (7 in Japan) and I really like that game. I hope this helps!

Um... I would recommend Rurouni Kenshin, but it has a whole lot of blood and some cursing. Maybe you should look on google or something for that kinda manga.
The only one I know that is pretty good on not having cussing is G Gundam. It is kinda cheesy, but I think yu're parents would approve that one. I don't know if you like that kina thing...
anyway try google

I think you'd probably like Fruits Basket. It's a really cute story about a Girl name Tohru Honda who discovers that the family whom she's housing with is curse. When ever a member of the family is hugged by someone of the opposite gender, they turn into an animal!! It's a really hillarious and heart warming story, and it's my favorite in the world.

There is some language, but nothing like F***, or anything. Mostly H***, SH**, B*****D, and taking the Lord's name in vain.

There's no real nudity in Fruits basket. One chick transforms back from her animal form, but we don't really see more that the side of her body. The thing about Fruits Basket "nudity" is that it is SUPER undetailed. I compare it to a tranformation sequence in Sailor Moon. (That may not help you much )

Well, I hope that helps. I'll come back later and add some suggestions when I'm not studying for Biology. *gag*
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. Crap. Trigun/Trigun Maximum hits all the categories except the sexual one (least sexual manga I know of). Wow....I can't think of anything else to suggest, as I can't think of anything that fits under those guidelines...
Think happy thoughts.

Hm, if i could redraw my characters I would probably write my own manga but that is one thing I have problems doing is redrawing my characters so yeah...its too bad though that most manga has either blood, language, "content", or all of the above in it...I really like the style

Suggestions (click on the link for a description):

Brain Powered (http://www.tokyopop.com/dbpage.php?propertycode=BRA&categorycode=BMG)- It has a little bit of cursing, I think only d**n. There are two very undetailed nudity shots in the last volume. There is some violence, but it is mosly meccha. There is no bad religion. Although it sounds stupid, the manga is my favorite, and really good!

Angelic Layer (http://www.tokyopop.com/dbpage.php?propertycode=AGL&categorycode=BMG)- The only bad thing in this manga is the little violence it contains (there is a review of the anime down by CAA)

.hack//legend of the twilight braclet (http://www.tokyopop.com/dbpage.php?propertycode=HAC&categorycode=BMG)- This manga has a little bit of the Lord's name in vain, some violence, and some, although little, sensuality. One of the main characters, Rena, wears a revelaing outfit, while another character, Ouka, is a werewolf and does not really wear anything but a body suit and some fur.

If you liked cardcaptors then you'd probably like tsubasa reservoir chronicles and xxxholic ... as far as I've read it fits your qualifications nicely....
Magic Knights Rayearth is basically a spoof on RPG's so that's fun.
Also Jing King of the bandits is really good.

I don't know how you feel about scanlations, but if you're ok with them Full Moon wo Sagashite is an incredibly clean title--there is very little cursing (I think one h and perhaps a d word or two), and no nudity. It's about a girl named Mitsuki who has cancer but dreams of becoming a singer and manages to get two shinigami ("gods" of death, but they're like the grim reaper) to help her by transforming her (sailor moon style) into the singer Full Moon. By far one of the cleanest and best titles I've ever seen/read--even the "magic" used is fairly fanciful and more like what you would find in "The Sword and the Stone". I'd also back the Fruits Basket, Magic Knights Rayearth and Angelic Layer; I've read all these series and they're fairly clean as well. Beware with MKR though, a little later the outfits get skimpier but as I recall never nude. There is also rather loose use with the word God to describe these suits of armor, but to be fair Cephiro is considered to be another universe so it's not like they are replacing the one true God.

Just as a note about Full Moon Wo Sagashite-- which I agree you should read--- there is one part where one character is seen partly undressed (she's wearing her skirt and a bra if I recall correctly. . .) It didn't really bother me, but I guess I just thought I might give you the heads up.
Kill. Personally I recommend Hayao Miyazaki's "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind". Off the top of my head, with the exception of "d---" there is no cursing. There is also no sexual content, or at least not in the first four volumes that I've read. Does get kinda pantheistic, but not in a bothersome way.

Other problem is the violence; it's not Kill Bill gore and it's not continuous but it is grim, but that's because the manga has an anti-war theme. At one part it shows from above an entire city of slaughtered people and the one character says: "See this is war; saving one person doesn't do anything in the long run. It's not even a consolation." It also doesn't take kindly to "organized religion", but doesn't seem to have much problem with people having beliefs in God (yes, there is something of a difference).

Only warning; this is NOT a light read and takes a lot of concentration to understand some parts. That's the only real issue.

The story: It's a 1000 years after most of the earth was destroyed in a war known as the seven days of fire. What is left of humanity lives on the outskirts of the immense "Sea of Corruption", a forrest of spores and fungus inhabited by gigantic insects. The forrest is poison to humans and animals (except the insects) and near it lies the small kingdom of the Valley of the Wind. Princess Nausicaa is the heir to valley, but she spends a lot of time in the Sea of Corruption, exploring it. She and her people live in peace, until she is called to war by their allies, the Torumekian Empire to partake in the war against the Holy Durok Empire. This is a senseless war. Soon she is caught up in politics she doesn't understand as there is infighting in both empires which might destroy not only her kingdom but all of humanity. She makes a fragile alliance with Princess Kushana, who must fight to survive from the people within her government who want to destroy her. This is truly an epic manga that took more than 10 years to complete, but its well worth it....so far.

I don't know if you would concider this to be outgrown along with Pokemon (though I'll be disapointed in you if you do :shady: ), but Digimon Tamers is pretty cool.

Oh, I think Blue Whisper hit the mark.

If you liked Pokemon (the battle arena - characters that "fight" without actually using real voilence) I think you'll love Angelic Layer. It's pracitcally squeaky clean, not to mention a great story. ^^

Digimon is a Manga!?!?

Yeah, the trick is finding it. The only place I've ever actually seen it is at Waldenbooks, and by then the infamous first volume gnomes had already struck :stressed:

But yeah, Angelic Layer is cool to.

If you've seen the anime, you may find the pace of the manga a bit draggy. . .

But you might as well try it! Atleast you know you like the story!

Azumanga Daioh!!!!

If you're into comedy manga, that is. Really though, I haven't met a person who didn't like Azumanga Daioh. May be some minor cursing as I recall -only the h and d word. It didn't happen often, though. No sex/nudity, unless you consider a couple of bikini-wearing beach scenes. Tomo's jokes can be a little off-color sometimes.

As far as scanlations go, I would suggest Parfait Tic, but it's practically the epitome of shoujo, so if that sort of thing doesn't float your boat than you might not like it. It's one of my favorite manga though.

Hmm... oh! Hikaru no Go would be a good one for you! It's very clean. No language or nudity. There's only 2 volumes out so far, though. One of the main characters is a spirit who posesses Hikaru (not in the horror-movie sense), that's the only "magical" element in the series.
