I'd suggest Fruits Basket. It's my absolute favorite.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Well, it's romance, comedy, fantasy really. And there's a few short kung-fu fights, so add in a dash of action. In the words of Tohru "It's a fun-tastic fantasy-- or a Fantastic fun-tasy."

Ai Yori Aoshi. It's a comedy, it's funny, and Aoi-chan is just so darn cute and perfect! If you don't mind technological stuff, Saikano would also be good, it's about a girl who gets turned into the ultimate weapon, and the stress her boyfriend has to endure 'cuz of it. That's about all the non-magic manga I can think of at the moment (besides Evangelion...but you probably don't wanna read that).

How old are you? I'm curious because I don't know exactly what I should be recommending. While Saikano is suppose to be a really good story, it is for the +16 variety.

BTW, do you consider "magical girl" to be "magic". In your mind, does Sailor Moon do magic?

The thing that bugs me most about Ai Yori Aoshi, though, is Tina and her "habit."

Candidate for goddess (These guys have EX abilities, but i don't think it counts as magic)
Rurouni Kenshin
One Piece (these guys eat special fruits that give them powers like having the properties of rubber.... does that count as magic?)
Prince of Tennis (Very safe... it's on tennis!)

Well, if you want alost-clean-as-the-driven-snow, you could read Saint Tail. It's a magical girl-female Robin Hood manga. Both I and Gypsy are big fans of this manga. I'm not sure it's still being printed, but I'm sure you could get it off of ebay if you were interested. This was my first REAL and entire manga series, and I still love it!

Check out Cowboy Bebop... no magic and it's pretty good (I liked the anime better than the manga) but I've only read vol. one so I dunno about clean-ness after that. That and the first volume of Jing King of the bandits was great and no magic... beyond the first volume I dunno, but it was in the kid's section at my bookstore so I doubt it's too bad.

Is Faye perhaps less endowed and more conceiled in the manga than the anime? Otherwise, I'd just want to give Sora the heads up that Faye's staple costume is somewhat seductive.

Well upto now, DNAngel has been pretty clean. The only thing I can think of is one scene where Daisuke stumbles in on a couple of girls changing. They're all atleast wearing under garments, and he's horriffied at what he's done. Then there's also one passage where one character suppsedly is cross dressing, but I have my suspicions that there's something else going one. One member said there's some shonen-ai undertones later in the series, but it was never really clarified.

Depends on how you define magic.

.hack//Legend of the Twilight is set in a virtual world that is supposed to simulate MMORPGs(online RPGs). There are character classes called wavemasters who can use the elements to attack, just like mages in RPGs, although the whole thing is virtual reality.

Well, if you like action/adventure, check out Rurouni Kenshin, One Piece, and Rave Master.

I highly recommend all three of them.

No, there is no magic of any kind in Kenshin. It's historical.

If you didn't mind .hack, than I doubt you will be bothered by Rave Master. It's got some light fantasy elements and such. I could possibly be wrong but I seriously don't think it has the "dark magic" that you are thinking of.

Naruto is awesome, but it might be too close to the magic you want to avoid. The characters make hand signs, then they can do something cool. It's more martial artsy than magical, but it's good to know it's there. I'd like to reinforce One
Piece. It's funny, it has plenty of action, and it's even low in swears. GREAT manga. I know little of the content of this one, but Beet the Vandel Buster looks REALLY good too. It's coming out in October. It's about this kid who becomes a vandel buster and fights monsters and vandels, the uber-monsters that make normal monsters. I'm going to get the first volume of that for sure. It comes out in October.
