Postby Kenchii » Sat Aug 21, 2004 3:16 pm

I listen to a lot of J Rock and some J Pop. Mainly Ayumi Hamasaki, Duel Jewl, Liv, Gackt, Dir En Grey (some songs only.. ), The Pillows, 'Lar~En~Ciel, Glay, and my personal fave band X Japan. Great bands, greats songs. What do you J bands do you listen to?

I don't have a specific group or singer, but I like the cast albums and image albums of a large number of anime series, and I think that qualifies ^^

Thank you. How does it differ from regular rock? Is it just the way they sing or what?

I don't listen to any JPop really (must be the POP part), but I've really gotten into JRock more recently. I like Luna Sea, Miyavi, The Gimmies (although they're quite new, I like what I've heard) and some stuff by bands like Nightmare and Kagerou. I don't know whether anyone else has thought this though (I could just be being paranoid), but does it seem like all these 'visual-kei' bands (i think thats correct) are making their image more important than the music they're writing? Or is that me just thinking blankly at 1:00 in the morning. Not got a problem with it mind you, Gothic bands rule.

I've got to say though, before I got into JRock, the Mad Capsule Markets were my favourite band, and they still are now and no doubt will be in the future because they just rule on so many levels!!!

(i bet none of that made any sense, well, what can you expect from an insomniac such as myself)

Edit: soz, i just remembered, could anyone recommend some good rocky, non gothic jrock bands for me to check out (my sources aren't very good saddly, thx) :thumb:

I usually just listen to the soundtracks of the shows I like. Right now the only one I can think of is Hyde. ^_^

J-Pop and JRock is about all I listen to now.

I'm a big fan of Maaya Sakamoto.

Since I like US 80's Pop and some rock. I like J-Pop and JRock alot, since it has a 80's feel to it.

Nobody knows Nobody Knows

Postby TwilightApostle » Mon Aug 30, 2004 9:22 pm

When I was in Japan I bought a CD from a pop hip-hop group called Nobody Knows. It has some of the most positive lyrics I've ever heard in a non-Christian CD. Seriously, their music is fun and poppy, and they have one big hit out (The Seibu Lions used it as their theme, I think). I advise anyone interested in J-pop to find a song called Kokoro Odoru. It's like delicious honey for your eardrums, only without the embarassing doctor visit that inevitably follows putting actual honey in your ears.
