Greetings and Salutations

Postby Esoteric » Sun Aug 22, 2004 1:59 pm

Hello, hello! Esoteric's the name. I've been visiting CAA for a while now; finally decided i should register and put my two cents worth in. People tell me talk a little funny: a bit formal and old fashioned (when I read the Fairie Queene I actually understood what they were saying most of the time), so if my digressions are cryptic, I appologize.

Anyhow, I've been an anime fan for about five years now. Seen lots of shows in that time and some I liked better than others. If I had to pick the three best (based on the greatest emotional impact), they would be Cowboy Bebop, Gundam 0080:war in the pocket, and Trigun, in that order.

I enjoy drawing when I have the time, as well as writing fiction. I also just started taking Aikido lessons. Guess that's enough of an introduction. I look forward to making some friends!

Hi Esoteric, I actually like more formal speech sometimes. It makes me think about what I am saying more by putting more thought into word usage. I hope you post something in the writing section sometime. :) What is Fairie Queene?

it's a super-thick volume of medieval stories written in poetic form, written by Edmund Spencer, circa 1880. The old English in it is well, verry olde.

Welcom to the Alliance, as I'm sure you've been told. We try our best to make things... interesting for the mortals.
Take it like you gave it; what else matters in the end? To be honest, it's all a one-shot test; that leaves plenty of places to go wrong, but how will you ever know? There's a pointer, I will admit. Turn it on, listen to it, feel it burn.

Hai!

Sometimes it's spelled Faerie Qveene, but just look for Edmund Spencer and you'll find it.

Beowulf

Nope, but I'd like to. I should try to find it at the library or something. I heard it was a little like the Song of Roland, which I read excerpts of a while ago. I liked that. How many pages is Beowulf?

I think it was a little over 100 pages, at least in my copy. I never read the Song of Roland as far as I can remember, but I think I heard it was like Beowolf.

Well I'll go find myself a copy of Beowulf then and let you know what I think. I'm sure I'll like it though. I like all sorts of old old folk tales, not just old english ones. It's nice having someone to talk to. Thanks sheherazade!!

And you too Madeline! Don't sweat it; understanding old english sure isn't a requirement in life! :thumb:
