temptation

Postby Jaltus-bot » Sun Aug 15, 2004 5:06 am

Ok, so I was up late tonight posting here. When I went to bed, I just had the idea of wanting to do something that was a sin stuck in my mind, so to deal with this, I went to read my Bible. I figured it would be smething healthier to think about. Sin-entrapment. Christ-freedom. Temptation-something better. That helped. So I was looking up temptation in the Bible and while I was there, I was skimming James Chapter 1 and I came accross something that I thought was really cool.

I hope this part is ok to add.
I was recently conversing with an individual whereupon it was mentioned how God's word is our spiritual food.

In my churches college group, we are doing 2nd Peter chapter 2 and it was said on Thursday how bad it was for the false teachers who knew God's truth to knowingly choose to do otherwise.

James 1:21, NKJV: Therefore Lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

Of course there is that verse about the word was with God and the Word was God, but I thought that was so cool because it ws like receiving God's Word then was something that helped me not to sin.

Well, anyway. I just really wanted to share that with you. (What am I doing still awake, I have church tomorrow/today) BTW, school starts of Monday. Prayer is always wecome.

Hey, that's a great testimony, Sheherazade!
I'm glad I was able to read this.
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone
And so hold on when there is nothing left in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!' ...you'll be a Man, my son!

James 1 is a very good chapter for temption and if you Look at Christ in the desert he used the word of God in faceing down the temptation.

Matthew 4

1Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. 2After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread."
4Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"
5Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6"If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written:
" 'He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'"
7Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'"
8Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9"All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me."
10Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'"
11Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.
I used to "Follow" Him because i had to....now i would give everything to follow Him.

Me check it out!
