Syreth: that one guy

Postby Syreth » Tue Aug 10, 2004 12:56 am

Hey, everyone. I ripped off Shezerade's idea for posting here after reaching my 100th post. So here goes:

Spiritual life: I've been a Christian for about 13 years or so, and I still haven't gotten it right yet! But at least now I'm working on it. I've only been serious about my walk for the past couple years or so. I've been going to church my whole life and it's pulled me through SO many hard times. Maybe I'll save those stories for the testimony section. I serve in my church doing various things as well. Last year I helped out lots with the youth until I went to Bible college, and I've been playing drums on the worship band for about 3 years. It's an incredible joy to serve the LORD. I used to be in a few Christian bands, and the one I am in now, I'm happy to say that our musical service pleased the LORD. Up until now, I guess the attitudes haven't been quite right, but since now all the members of this band have a surrendered heart, God is bearing fruit through us. We haven't practiced lately because one of our members is still working at the Bible college this summer, but when we all go down there this semester, maybe we can work something out. Lately I've been exploring the possibility of using artwork to serve God -- something I've never really done.

My Personality: Well, I guess I'm generally a quiet guy around people. Don't get me wrong. I love people, I guess I'm just content to be around a group and hang out. Sometimes I get out there in groups, but not usually. I love connecting with people one on one, though. Other than that, I'm pretty spontaneous. One minute I'm calm and serious, the next I'm weird and crazy. It's just kinda who I am, I spose.

My Musicianship: I played trumpet from 6th grade to junior year, and I haven't picked it up much since. I've played guitar for about 5 years, and I pick it up occasionally to write a song or to worship God personally or to jam out to some favorite songs. I've been playing drums for 3 years, and that's about how long I've been playing for my church worship band. It's been a great and learning experience, full of heart searching. I've never really considered myself a singer, although, I suppose I possess the ability. So far I've been in a: wannabe pop/punk band as a singer (a bad one), wannabe oi/punk band as a screamer/guitarist, a punk band as a drummer, a "whatever we felt like playing" band (mostly punk and metal) as a drummer, and an alternative band as a drummer. Bands are silly, and a waste of time if you're in it with the wrong people with the wrong reasons.

My Art: I've been into cartoons since I was very little. I used to draw Mario over and over again. In grade school I wanted to be an artist and drew mostly fantasy characters. In middle school, I wanted to make a comic book with a storyline and characters which ridiculously resembled megaman. I thought I was going to be an artist until I joined a punk band in junior high, but as of now, it's a toss-up. I drew throughout that time, but only for my amusement and my shallow desire to impress people. I still have to search my heart, but I want to serve God with my abilities now, and I hope God will bless that. I'm working on a manga project, and have realized how much of an amateur I truly am!

Well, there you go... probably more than you ever wanted to know! I hope to get to know you guys as much as I can this month, because I go back to college on the 22nd, and I won't have liberal access to the internet as I have for this part of the summer. I hope you guys don't forget about me! I'll try to post when I can and stay in touch and all that.

In short, the manga with be mostly sci-fi, with a touch of fantasy. It'll be one of those "a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away" type of deals. I don't know enough about real life to make it directly relate to it in that way. Also, since I want to symbolize Biblical events in the story, if it were to take place in the future of the real world, it would create some strange issues. I'm done drafting chapter 1 (I think), so maybe I'll be able to share it soon when I get everything to look real nice (as best as I can).
