I didn't lose faith in his directing; only his ability to write dialogue. You do realize he wrote the screenplay for the prequels, but I think he got someone else to screenplay the original trilogy. But then again, maybe he's going senile...

What worries me is that he was quoted in an article as saying "At this point, I'm not worried about what people think. I can make a movie just because I want to make a movie." Which could be a very bad thing...

Ever seen Howard the Duck? Another Lucas masterpiece *snicker*

I didn't know about the screenplay authorship, but it doen't surprise me. I know he had help earlier, and much of Ep. IV, as well as the later ones were done with Joseph Campbell consulting, which would have certainly added to the mythic style of the orginal trilogy. Something that was sorely lacking in the new films IMHO.

Then again, much of the plot of Ep IV was also pretty liberally ripped off of Akira Kurosawa's film "The Hidden Fortress". Not that I'm complaining mind you; it's a great movie. But it's too bad Lucas wasn't inclined to think of using influences from Paradise Lost or Faust or something for Anakin's descent into the dark side. It would have been a lot better than the pouty adolescent brat that they served up.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

I agree with you on the last point there. For me, Vader was somewhat a sympathy inducing character in the first trilogy. Whereas I find myself being annoyed with Anakin.

Also, Vader was just cool! He auctually did something unlike Maul.

BTW, I would like to add: For me, I believe the new ones rely to much on computer animation. I mean how can you act when most or all of the sets are green screens?

Seriously. No more characters that just look cool. We want characters that look cool AND bring something to the table. Not to mention character development.

Ewan McGregor was once talking about how hard it is to act when what you're acting with isn't even there.

I think CG characters suck. Bring back muppets.

I think George Lucas has become a crazy old loon myself. He shoulda let someone else write the screenplays. The story and dialogue is so dry, so....dull in comparison to the originals, it makes me wanna cry.

He also shoulda focused more on directing his actors. I mean, Ewan McGregor is a great Obi-Wan and everything, but you can just tell he wasn't directed well in these movies. Because I've seen him give excellent performances under other directors. ::cough::Baz Luhrmann::cough::

Also, where is the character development? They're just....some characters almost don't -have- any character. I'm really disappointed in the part they've written for Obi-Wan. I was always under the impression that he was so much more than they make him out to be.

Also, what is the DEAL with Anakin? He was a more mature character when he was a -child-, it seems. Geez, after I saw Episode II, I watched the original Trilogy and I liked Luke about a thousand times better than before. That's how bad Anakin seemed to me.

What bugs me the most is the new movies give the originals SUCH a bad name. Ugh.

Well, there isn't really much use in complaining about the prequals.

Frankly, while the dialouge could have been better, I did enjoy the battle scenes and CG graphics.

Out of the originals: ESB and ROTJ were my faves. The only thing I don't like about ROTJ is the ewoks. Funny, when the movie first came out I was still a kid and I thought they were adorable. Now I'm an adult and they set my teeth on edge *their song does anyway*. As for Ep.1= very disappointed. They hyped this up to the nth degree and it could have been so much better. Sorry, but I gave my love to Matrix over that one.
Ep. 2= I couldn't stay focused. My mind kept wandering off no matter how much I tried to pay attn. I remember that the acting was bad and that there was some cool FX in some parts...other than that,I have no idea what happened.
Fave characters are Yoda, Obi wan, Hans Solo...and that lounge singer..what was her name? Sy Snoodles or something?

i think one of the reasons why episodes IV, V and VI were so good was because the type of filming, effects, dialoge, and the entire plot itself were so completley new... no one had ever tried to do ANYTHING like what Lucas accomplished in SW. they were good because there was nothing else out there like them; nothing to compare them to. (don't get me wrong i'm not saying that they were good for that reason alone, but it had a lot to do with it.)

on the other hand, episodes I and II (and probably III) are just some of the same-ol-same-old. it's old news to us peoples... we have seen those effects, that scripting, that plot line. if it was new, it might be interesting. but it's not so they won't be. i probably won't even go see III in theatres (i went to see I at the midnight showing on the first day- i was sorley dissapointed and i missed II's opening so i could go to a Jars of Clay concert). i'm not even sure i will go see III- probably just get it when it comes out on video.

but i'm headed to hollywood video later to pre-order my copy of The Two Towers- i'll get it on video (like i did with Fellowship) and then get the extended edition DVD when it comes out (like i did with Fellowship). i'll have both TTT and FoTR on video and DVD! yay!

In the originals, they actually tried to make it look real. Now, it doesn't seem like Lucas cares. In fact, I heard something about Lucas just wanted to finish Starwars. He should of let Steven do 'em. I hope he doesn't massacrer Indy next.

And, what's with the stuff against Ewoks??? I loved the Ewok song!
*ducks to avoid flying fruit*

Cool! I'd buy 'em on both too, but I lack the funding. So, I'll just be getting the DVD.

ha ha i lied... when FoTR came out on video, you could pre-order them almost three weeks in advance at any store or video rental place that planned on selling them... this year, not hollywood, not blockbuster, not even freddy's was pre ordering copies. so i have to wait until the 26th like all the other people.

no fair!!

Wow... I found people that agree with me! Yea! If I were to say Hayden Christensen sucked around my friends they would murder me. "He's soooo cute". Yeah, whatever... *sigh* I just don't understand it... they ruined Star Wars for me forever... Episode I was all right, but I was ready to die sitting in E2 watching those horribly sappy love scenes and long pointless fight scenes. But, Yoda was cool in his little fight scenes. I've probably said too much now... hehe...

The peer pressure is too much. I must become a mindless zombie controlled by pop culture. Fruit throwing...

Actually, I meant throw fruit at Link here because of the Ewok comment. I don't like Ewoks.

Ewoks!!!!!!!!!

They're so cute and fuzzy. When I was little I had a stuffed Wicket. (For all you Ewok-haters, Wicket was a specific cute fuzzy Ewok.)

Come on, I knew who Wicket was. Just because I don't like them doesn't mean I'm ignorant.

Actually, high on the reasons I don't like them is because they are cute and cuddly. I don't like things like that. And really, how good of an ending to an entire series is a bunch of teddy bear rejects singing gibberish?

When I was little, I thought we sung a song about Ewoks in church.

"And Ewoks with me an Detox with me."

I was a very confused child. Then again, it was a better song than:

"Gladly, the cross-eyed bear!"

(Note, that last one is a rehash of a fairly old joke.)

It's called a "happy" ending. Perhaps you've heard of them? :P

And it wasn't gibberish; it was Ewokish! Sheesh! *stalks away muttering about teddy-bear haters* :shady:

Celebrate the freedom
