Sega Master System/Genesis: S-Video?

Postby Azier the Swordsman » Sat Aug 07, 2004 3:28 pm

Do S-Video cables exist for these systems? Because I can't seem to find them at all. If not, will a Sega Saturn cable work? (I'm curious since my Master System and Genesis can use the same adapters/cables)

Hmmm... well the picture I get on my TV does not really look that great. Too much pixelation.

Are you on an HD TV?

No, mine's just a standard TV. I'm using video inputs. (An RF switch is just too horrible to stand) I really want to get a Sony Trinitron in the near future though, as it's got the best picture of standard TVs. The systems I'm using an S-video cable with look great, though anything with a standard video cable looks less than average.

Hmm.... thats really odd... the only time I remeber having a problem with 2D games pixilating was when I was playing Mega man X5 on my dad's HDTV, honestly I don't know what the problem is... how badly is it pixilized? Can you post a picture of it?

I'm guessing it looked something like this:

Oh, look! It's the blue bomber...

Yeah, personally on 8 and 16 bit games, more clarity is the LAST thing I want... It needs to be a bit blurry... I always turn "interpolation" on in emulators to make it look more like it's on a TV (contrary to whoever did this, the "scanlines" ffeature does not accomplish this) The slight blur makes it seem more organic, doesn't it? Of course, it is a mater of taste

Well, maybe 'pixelation' is too strong of a word, I mean, I can see everything, it's just blurry, and there are 'unncessary colors' sticking around objects/characters. (They've done this with all my other TV's.) This is definately not anything wrong with my systems or games. I could get a much better picture if I had an S-video cable. (My taste is that I prefer the best quality avaliable... I'm a bit picky about this.)

I hooked up my Master System to our Trinitron TV today, and talk about a MAJOR improvement. I'm definately buying one of my own. (The reason I have to buy another one is because, for one, the one we have is for our study, and I need a personal one for my room. Two, it's too big to fit anywhere in my room anyways. Three, no S-video or component video inputs. But still, that TV delivers an incredibly awesome picture for gaming or anime.

Oh, yeah, that's just the TV's problem, not the cable's problem... I get perfect colors on my SNES using an RF cable, so it is just the TV... TV's crap out, sometimes, and old NTSC TV can't handle some colors...

My family's nice, fairly new Zenith, crackles whenever I play game with the A/V input. :waah!: It doesn't even do that for DVDs through the A/V input. ONLY THE VIDO GAMES. :stressed: Yeah, TVs have theri quirks. Did you knwo that on most older sets, PS adn PS2 pictures will bounce up and down if you don't use the A/V. IT drives me nuts when I try to play PLaystation on the TV in my room. Gamecube has no such problem though. ~(^_^)~ Look at that smiley! HE'S SO HAPPY, HE'S DANCING! DANCING! ~(o_O)~ Oh no, NOW THEY'RE ALL DANCING! ~(T_T)~
