Very interesting article, Link, I enjoyed it! Right now, I'm kind of straddling the line between Nintendo and Sony. I own a GameCube, which I love dearly, but I really wish Nintendo would produce more RPGs. On the other hand, I'm not willing to give up Mario or Legend of Zelda by switching completely to the Playstation.

But I want the Playstation because of course of the abundance of RPG games, and the DVD-playing feature. And I've always loved DDR! So I'm not exactly sure which console I'll get in the future; probably the PS3 if I can afford it, but 2007 seems a long way away.

It'll be nice to see the PS3, I think, but for now I'm happy with the PS2. I think they could get a lot more use out of it before they start trying to retire it, so the slated 2007 release date sounds just fine to me.

As for Nintendo...I think the only thing that would convince me to buy their next system is backwards compatibility.

Well, that's all-- wait, what's this other thing? X...box? What the heck is that? Hehehe. XD

I would be surprised if Sony actually released the PS3 significantly later than Nintendo and Microsoft. Sony does have a hugh fanbase, but they won't wait around forever. Besides, I would really like to have a PS3 before I graduate college .

I am somewhat amused by Nintendo's touting of "innovation" as a feature for its next console. The fact is, Nintendo didn't get to be one of the top 3 game developers by coming out with all sorts of quirky novelty systems; on the contrary, they lost money on the Virtual Boy, showed stagnation with the N64, and failed to impress with the Gamecube. If they continue that trend, they will be running a distant third in the next round of console wars, hanging on only by the nostalgia factor of their franchises. The success of these franchises should tell Nintendo something: improving and working from time-honored ideas is the way to win the console wars. Sony didn't pull ahead by radically irrational innovation .
