Whats your opinion on Diablo??

I thought it was demonic slightly until I found out it was about battling the forces of hell, not becoming them. . .
Although I would've probably played it anyways. . .

Actually its about collecting every unique and set item ever, like demonic pokemon. But you are right it is messed up, i used to have it, and i got rid of it because of the presence the game has. If asked i would advise anyone who has the game to get rid of it. the fireplace works well

What's wrong with vanquishing the forces of hell in mortal combat?

This is one of those grey area games... I avoided it for a long time, and I can't say I'm a big, big fan of the game, but it is along the lines of a game like Doom where you are taking on demonic forces.

The original Diablo is simply a graphical version of Rogue with a major goal added to drive you to go down. My biggest disapointment with the game was the end, but it did leave an opening for a sequal.

I'd much rather play about a half-dozen other games, but it's not all bad.... just take frequent breaks... got "Diablo" wrist from playing down to the final battle the weekend I got it.

I could say it was the best RPG on PC back in its days. Too bad the multiplayer was/is full of holes.

Viewing as a Christian, it doesn't matter much to me, but my opinion is just a personal thing. I'd really not recommend the game to anyone who is iffy on the subject, for lower number of pixels sure stretches your imagination, and that's not good in this game. And yes, the theme is grey, not as much as Doom goes but still grey. There's no blaspheme in the game that's obvious, but it is about killing demons and magic, so that theme is still there.

Avoid it if you dislike to step in the grey.

I was hooked on Diablo 2 back in the days...but the constant robbing and cheating of gamers left more than just a bad taste in my mouth. So, like Counter-Strike, another once mightly popular PC game, I stopped playing.

I played both Diablo I and II and I would admit it's still one of my favorite adventure/RPGs for the PC. I don't care much for the multiplayer (was killed by PKs more than I could remember) but I had my fun.

The theme in Diablo is just that, you're out to kill the demon. There's use of 'magic' and that might drive people off, but I personally see it's no different form any other RPG like the FF series. At least here you are killing demons and not wild animals or enemy *human* troops.

I personally kept playing and still do for the unique items and to see just how good a set I could get. I love exotic weapons and man do I love the weapons in Diablo...

I still think it's basically a story about good vs evil and God vs the devil. They tweaked the whole heavenly realm thing a bit but it's nothing "special" in regards to every other secular game with spiritual themes in it.

Heh... some things in Diablo inspired me with Paladin as well... XD

I have played (although I no longer own) Diablo (PS1) and Diablo 2 (PC). They are both great action RPG's; however, I dislike the extent to which Diablo 2 is dominated by power gamers, pkers, and cheaters/hackers. I appreciate the complex skill system and rewarding item hunting, as well as the content that was added with the expansion (Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction).

Why don't I own Diablo 2 anymore? Funny story...I gave it to my best friend who was addicted to the game after he fried his computer. The same goes for the expansion. Unfortunately, I have a bad habit for being generous with my games (I lost SC: Brood War, Virtua Fighter 4, and F-Zero Advance in the same way  ).

Whether or not the game is "demonic" depends on your definition of the word demonic. If anything featuring demons or the occult is demonic, then Diablo 2 is demonic; then again, the Bible is also demonic according to that definition. If applying the term demonic means that the game promotes occultism, demon-worship, or the ultimate triumph of evil over good, then Diablo is not demonic. As mentioned by others, the game depicts a battle between good and evil, with your character defending the good.

While Diablo 2 is not explicity Christian, virtually no game meets that criterion. Games are about entertainment, competition, commuinity, and fantasy. If they include religious elements, these are generally only of minor importance. For this reason, it is not really fair to single out Diablo 2, Doom, or any other game as a specific example of a "demonic" game that should be avoided.

Yeah sounds like they did a very objective review... A pixelated devil like creature that I'm wacking with a sword is not gonna entice me to dabbel in the occult. For some it may but then they just shouldn't play things like that.

I played the game, and afterwards I felt slightly dirty(not as dirty as after I played Celebrity Deathmatch, but dirty nonetheless). It's a personal thing. I don't recommend the game, though...

I felt worse after playing Micro Machines Racing and Spec Ops for Playstation than I did after Diablo or Doom.

I didn't really mind the game except for the pentagrams that serve as markers relatively frequently. Either Diablo, it is pretty much irrelevant. Out of respect for other members of my household, I did not play the game. However, I do admire the development system featured in Diablo II.

Diablo was probably the most addicting game of its time. One of my personal favorites. As to its theme I could see where you would find it iffy on the magic category but your basically playing out ,as the theme of the game, spiritual warfare between you and hell. Your mission is to kill an evil demon. Nothing wrong with that.
*shrugs* but if it makes u feel uncomfortable dont play it.

Heh, addictive alright... I would admit my absolute favorite SFX in Diablo (and possibly in all games) is the sound of gold coins dropping. I mean, "TRING!" Yay!! XD And the sound of bashing skeleton warriors in--it's one of the most satisfying crunches I ever heard.

I think one of the main thing that pushes potential gamers away is that it seems like they are marketing Diablo himself, and not destruction of him.

Whichs begs the question which they really are marketing...

Meanwhile, I'm surprised at the number of people here who have no issue with frequent use of pentagrams (though I suppose that could fall under the magic category). This includes people who are a great deal more sensitive on most issues than I consider myself. It isn't a stylized thing, either: there are flat out baphomets in some places.

I was more disturbed at the burning crosses. Or was it upside down burning crosses? In fact, I can't remember the pentagrams, only the burning crosses, but I know they're there.

Ah, then there's the HUGE burning pentagram in some of the dungeons but I was most focused on finding a way around them without getting burned then feeling disturbed.
