A Gift ( A Poem -- sadly too late for the contest)

I'm not too sure of the format here, but you seem like genuinely nice people, so.... I have written a book of poetry and I would really like to hear what anyone thinks of it. True love -- the subject of this poem -- tends to be steamy sometimes. I think this is pretty tame, but... well, it's much tamer than Songs of Solomon, so I guess it's okay. So, here it is:

A Gift

Each morning
I wake up
dreaming of when
I will wake up
and not dream of you

Because you will be with me
just as you are with me
in my mind
in my hopes
not as a future if

But as a present here
a gift to me
as I try to be
a joy to you
a peace of you

To be a support
onto which you can
rest your worries
and distresses

And the things
that keep you up at night
will keep me up at night
because I will be next to you
consoling you

Or perhaps usurping
your suffering with love
with embrace
with the race we run
through our lives
to our God

Who was with us
before we were
with us in those times
in those cold nights

When the demons come
and tell us are alone
He was with us
through the nothing

Where are you now
and what do you wake up to
does it bring you peace
and does it feel like hope

Are you the one with the eyes
that will captivate me
like a bond-slave
as I nail my ear to your heart
lost in every beat

Is yours the hair
that will be the air
I breathe as you lay
resting on my chest
trusting I will be near

You have a part of my heart
but the whole
is not for me to give
because it was bought
not from me

But from the one
who stole it from
my first Love
who bought it back
with His heart

Yet there is a place
He has left for you
if you will have it
if you will hold it
near yours

I am a man
and have the frailties
common to men
and to mankind

I am not a god
I am not a mighty gale
I am the sweet aroma
ascending to my God
floating by my fellow humans

Rise with me
you who were bonded
to God before you knew
before you formed

From a thought
to a cell
to a heart
to a brain
to a body

To a babe
to a girl
to a thinker
to a runner
to a woman

To the future
which I hope will include me
because I want to pick you up
and let you stand on my shoulders
and see the Son more clearly

Because love is the current
manifestation of our God
and I want to give that to you
that which I have to give
that which was given to me

I am a mist
and through the mist
I feel a drawing
pulling me

Yet not against my will
if you will
because I am not alone
and you are a choosier too

I choose you
a fellow runner
a fellow dreamer
and maybe a lover too

JON!!! Er, I mean... *looks up at the avitar* Um... "SpiritusVult" Ah. Let's see if Ashley can tell us what that one means. ;) Cool! I'm glad you showed up. (Aside note to others: Jon's pretty cool. He's my best friend.)

Anyway, loved your poem, man. That book's in my 'reading room' right now. ;)

Very cool, Jon. I mean, uh... Jon. :)

I think you're on the path to finding her -- which is to say, you are following God's path and He will always lead you the right way.
