Well, since the last time I wrote on here I've watched...

Millennium Actress

My gosh this was beautiful! It was a bit hard to follow at first due to the flow but I quickly got the hang of it. Everything about it was beautiful: the animation/art, the music, the story, ah... SPOILER: Highlight text to read: And I cried so much at the end when Chiyoko died. And I loved the part at the end where it shows her it the spaceship taking off to continue the search for her mystery man. I kind of viewed it as symbolic of her following him into Heaven. In the end, a pretty underrated movie.

Whisper of the Heart

Well, I now have another favorite Studio Ghibli film along with Howl's Moving Castle and The Secret World of Arrietty. This movie was so peaceful, relaxing, and pleasant. And I actually rather related to Shizuku a good bit. I also have to admit, it surprised me to hear Country Roads playing at the beginning with lyrics like 'West Virginia, Blue Ridge Mountain momma' etc. :XD: And SPOILER: Highlight text to read: that 'I love you' at the end was soooooooooooooooo adorable! A really great film!

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle Series 1

Thank you guys so much for introducing me to this series! I already had this on my 'to watch' list but it wasn't really top priority and now I'm in love! SPOILER: Highlight text to read: That climax was truly something. I thought the virtual world thing was a nice twist and I actually found that to be one of my favorite worlds they've been to so far. When they threw the vampire thing in there I was like 'Hmm.. This should be interesting' and I'm sure they'll delve more into that in Series 2. And when they said Fai died, even though I knew he was still alive, I think my heart still sank a little. Seriously, thanks to this show, I have now added every other CLAMP anime/manga series to my 'to watch/read' list! :n_n:

I've finished Heidi: Girl of the Alps. This anime has so much universal appeal. I'm surprised that there is no English sub or English dub. I watched the Spanish dub which was done really well and had great voice acting.

Edit:
There was a English dub movie made from cuts of scenes from the series.

My family owns most (if not all) of the Heidi series in a German dub. It is really good.

I've finished K and Heaven's Memo Pad. The former developed into an engaging series after a slow start, and I can't wait to see where the movie will now take the story. The latter was a great mystery series - something that you don't often come by.

Besides my large winter season queue, I'm making my way through Fate/Zero (finished the second episode). Let's see if this holds up to the hype I've been listening to.

I took a break from Fairy Tail (didn't want to watch them all then be depressed that there were no more available) and randomly started Sasame Magical Girls Club. This anime is... odd. I like the dub cast, for the most part. Todd Haberkorn's character (can't remember name) is really sweet after the first episode. I've gotten through eight episodes. Maybe the show will pick up pace but for now I can't decide if it's worth the time.

Mushishi season 1, ep.'s 1-26 (complete, sub):

Well, as mentioned in my comments about the recently-released special (which was pretty darn fantastic, BTW! :jump: ), I'd read the manga series a while back and thought it very good indeed, but had no real impulse to watch the anime adaptation until that special was released. However, that episode was so darn excellent that it really made me want to check out the rest of the anime as well; and with the second season apparently going to start in April, I went ahead and watched the first season now so I can just dive right in when S2 airs.

And holy crap-- it was glorious! :wow!: :jump:

It's amazingly faithful to the original manga; the art (the background art in particular) is beautiful; and one more thing that I noticed both in the special as well as here is the series' remarkably excellent use of sound-- including not only the very-ear-pleasing seiyuu and the fantastic soundtrack, but also all the ambient sounds/noises and even the deliberate usage of silence-- all in the perfect spots.

This is one of the best adaptations I've ever seen, and also quite arguably one of the best anime regardless-- and I'd recommend it to just about anyone!

Super pumped for S2!! :jump:

I think you just made my day! I had no idea they were making a season two!!! Mushi-shi is such a unique anime - I really enjoyed watching it before. Plus, Ginko is great.

K. I'm up to ep 7 of Code Geass R2 and ep 12 of Tsubasa s2. Code Geass is epic as always and Tsubasa, while at times a bit tedious with the pacing, it's still fantastic! SPOILER: Highlight text to read: The flying car race was cool and I like how Sakura is becoming more than a damsel in distress. She's really trying to become stronger and I love that about her! She's quickly becoming one of my all time favorite female anime characters. Also, I was SO glad Fai got a an ep that focused on him! It teased a bit of his backstory (he's still pretty mysterious though) and he and Chi...I think I want to ship them now. :3 The battle between the gods was interesting, beautiful, and a bit sad. The whole gang getting chibi-fied was awesome! Probably one of my favorite filler episodes ever! And this is coming from someone who's not super fond of fillers. Now we meet the biker gang and some old friends... I just love this show. :n_n:

Re: What anime are you watching?

So I just finished the 26-episode Sasami: Magical Girls Club. I have mixed feelings about the series as a whole. The beginning was very cheesy and took awhile to get to an actual plot. Once the plot hit I got more interested and so I decided to watch the rest.

The premise was initially cute: little girls who are discovering that they have magical abilities. The main characters were all so different from one another. It reminded me a bit of Sailor Moon.

That said, there were random moments of behavior that was surprisingly inappropriate. I incorrectly assumed when I started this anime that it would be a lot like A Little Snow Fairy Sugar.

If you can get past the random awkwardness (not the bulk of the show, but it's noticeable) this anime does have some great merits. The show focused on friendship and the ups and downs of emotions that can affect one's view of it. The characterization of Misao was pretty great, I must say. She struggled with self-confidence and her emotions were all over the place - which I think was very realistic. Add that Sasami was the type of person who makes you want to be a better version of yourself and the anime was worthwhile.

I didn't care too much for the intro music, but the second ending theme was cute. Oh, and I really, really liked the Song of the Earth (Amitav's Song). So very melodic and lovely, it'll probably be stuck in my head for a few days. SPOILER: Highlight text to read: The most beautiful part of the anime (to me) was the moment when Amitav and Sasami danced together while that song played. Amitav was my favorite character for half a moment until later when I realized he's wasn't as serious and mysterious as that scene would have you believe.

Side note: SPOILER: Highlight text to read: The ending was odd and didn't explain enough :/

Caught up with Hamatora (minus episode 8; gotta wait 'till Tuseday before it is available to me). I am lovin' this series so much! The commercial at episode 4 made me die of laughter (especially Ratio's line). Action filled and funny, reminds me of Black Cat. But that doesn't make it free of feels, because... SPOILER: Highlight text to read: WHATTHEHECK WHY DID ART HAVE TO BE SHOT?! BY A CREEPY DUDE!!! Ugh, this Moral dude reminds me too much of Creed, which means he shall have all my hate. Poor Nice when he finds out, gaah... I hope Art doesn't die! I mean, they said his Minimum wasn't actualized, maybe he'll have a healing Minimum and appear later? *wishful thinking* Like AoT and Game of Thrones, this may not have main character armor XD

So I am curious what'll happen! Hamatora right now is the only Winter anime I am following as it comes out, I'm gonna check on series I missed and wonder what spring will bring, too. But I hope Hamatora gets licensed; I don't care if it's sub-only even (though a dub would be cool; I already have VA choices in mind, so if a dub it gets, PLEASE FUNIMATION!) as long as I can get my hands on them DVDs.

I'm currently watching Fairy Tale and Fullmetal Alchemsit: Brotherhood. After those I am gonna watch Trigun.
Now I see. You’re Jealous. You’re jealous of humans aren’t you? According to you, humans are supposed to be a lot weaker than homunculi. And yet, even if they get discouraged after being beaten, and even if they get close to falling down after losing their paths, they continue to get up and fight. Everyone around them helps them get back up. And you’re envious of that.

Finished Samurai Champloo. Currently watching Cowboy Bebop and Golden Time.

Samurai Champloo: really good except for episode 21 or 22? (If you have seen it, you probably know what im referring to) SPOILER: Highlight text to read: The episode with the people that wouldn't die
Cowboy Bebop: pretty good, except I really wish the episodes were twice as long. (feels like they rushed a few episodes)
Golden Time: also pretty good as it picked up the pase in the last few episodes.

One Piece - Ep 1-8

Yes, I've been avoiding long-running series like the plague (besides Fairy Tail, that is fairly long). I didn't want to get really invested in a series that goes on forever and might fall apart by the 200+ episode. But, you know what? After finally falling for watching it due to Crunchyroll's new acquirement, I've been completely overtaken by this generic ball of action, fun, and drama. It's the nicest thing to watch and relax to as a break from the fairly serious Fate/Zero and the many shows this season that have gotten me somewhat depressed (they're still good... but why do my favorite characters have to have the short end of the stick? Why? Why? Why???).

Re-watched the entire Steins;Gate series + OVA + movie in preparation for playing the original VN, which will be shipping to me soon (yay! :jump: ). And man, it's all just as awesome the second time through as it was the first! :jump:

Plus, of course, this viewing also had the neat extra layer of me now noticing a *lot* more of the clever little details and connections the episodes (and the movie, as well) have with each other, since I was now watching them with knowledge of what happened later/earlier. :thumb: And going through it this second time, I could also really notice and appreciate how well the at-first-slow-yet-continually-snowballing buildup/pacing was done.

So, yeah, this remains one of my top favorite anime for good reason :thumb: , and I can't wait to (finally!) play the source soon, too!

Did you finish Kyousougiga and if so, what did you think of it?

I finally finished the Black Jack OAV, although I had to watch these last 2 episodes subbed and it's one of the few series I actually prefer the dub. Still great though.

I also started Mushishi, which has been on my To-Watch list for years, partly because of the recent post by MangaRocks! which reminded me that the second season is starting soon and I want to get S1 done before it then.

I keep trying to watch Dragon Ball (not Z) but there are so.many.episodes I'm around ep. 115. And maybe they'll fix it later on but SPOILER: Highlight text to read: Kuririn (Krillin)! He wasn't my favorite character but when he smiled for about 10 seconds so innocently and then we saw his back as he retreated into the distance I just knew something awful was going to happen. Ach! One kick, seriously?! He'd better not stay dead.

Also I started Kaleido Star. Watched about four episodes. I liked it! But... how are they going to keep this up for 52 episodes? It'll take me a long while to find out since I'm watching it with a friend and our schedules differ a lot.

Too bad they don't have a kai version for Dragonball, that would be cool and easier for you snice Dragonball z kai is faster pace and half the number of episodes of the original Z.

So I got to watch 2 episodes instead of one for Hamatora, thanks to someone giving me a guest pass! Man, it's getting interested, especially the ending of the last episode! Makes me anxious to see what happens next, can't wait!

Also, I watched all of Anohana. I had been meaning to watch this, and finally got to. All I can say is....FIRST ANIME THAT MADE ME CRY THE FIRST EPISODE!! SPOILER: Highlight text to read: This anime was beautiful, touching, sentimental, and personally meant something to me because of that last thing Menma wrote to Jintan before she said goodbye. Just reverse genders, I know what it feels like to receive such a letter, gah I bawled like a baby.... I wish the DVDs weren't so expensive, but because I loved it so much I am highly considering buying it anyway someday. Plus, yay, Miyu Irino was in it, he was awesome!

Just finished the first season of Little Busters. Considering the fact that I played the VN first, I can say that I really enjoyed it. I will say that I felt that the anime itself was really rushed as they could have done a lot more for the main path, but I feel like they did the individual paths well.

SPOILER: Highlight text to read: I felt that the tone was rather dark, for coming after the original series. In that one, there were shadows that threatened, and plenty of foreshadowing for what happened in AS, but each time, things would turn out okay, and even improve.
The roller coaster of tone was also a little bothersome. After the first major dip, I had a hard time investing in the characters as the story started to become more hopeful, and after the second dip, I felt the resolution of the story was a bit cheap, even though there had been foreshadowing of the way it might turn out, but the wrap-up was too fast and unconnected to the rest of the series arc to be satisfying. The protagonist didn't really even have a hand in it, from what I could tell.
