MY ANIME BURNOUT IS OVER I'M BACK BABY. I want to finish up No.6 real quick before I start black cat though since Its not all that long. Its weird, slow, quite potentially gay between sion and rat( I don't know where they are going with them but i kinda like them as really close friends almost brothers) yet I love this show, and i need to get caught up on attack on titan soon.

I finished Rainbow yesterday and my goodness what an anime. I don't know enough to say whether it's an underrated show or not, I don't know if there's many people here who've seen it, but if you can take the "objectionable" content I highly recommend it. Check out the review here for details on said content. The strength of the show lies squarely in the hope/perseverance in adversity theme and overall it's ridiculously uplifting. It isn't perfect, I thought Heitai and Cabbage especially suffers a little when it comes to characterisation, but I gave it 10 out of 10 anyway for how it pulls you in and really makes you care about these characters.

While Mario is certainly very main character-ish and the go-to action guy, I found Suppon (Turtle) to edge ahead of the others in terms of favourite characters. In the individual-centric episodes for each of the boys I don't think there was one where Suppon isn't involved in some way to help his friends with their problems. So I was glad that they did comment somewhere in his own story-line episodes about how much his cares for his friends and how big his heart is. Of course there isn't anything any of them wouldn't do for their friends, but Suppon has, more than the others, the insight and empathy to notice when there's something bothering one of them and the savvy to find something to do about it. Sure sometimes he messes it up but his heart is always in the right place.

I finished No.6 and I cried, and cried. I've been choked up over anime before but I've never flat out been move to tears, it was beautiful. I'm through ep5 of dog and scissors and going to at least start watching the dub of sword art online.

Obviously said by someone who has never owned or been around a cat long-term and doesn't understand that cats really REALLY like to shove their butts in people's faces. Arias butt is far less obscene than cats in real life

On that note, Aria is the best anime ever the end. Glad you're watching it!

I finished Star Driver on the weekend, which was all kinds of epic. Apparently, and I don't remember where I saw this, there are people out there who had issues with the ending but IMO the only way it could have been improved is if Head received a few more punches to the face. I still think the battles occasionally got boring and I was always more interested in everything that was happening outside of Zero Time. I'm not particularly fond of Wako and Sugata, I found almost all the other characters more interesting and layered than the two of them and the intrigue and relationships within Glittering Crux was the biggest drawing point, aside from Takuto being awesome of course.

Black Jack OAV 10: Having had a knee op earlier in the year I could totally relate to this one, even if the main "quest star" girl was kinda silly. That and it was a more normal medical case, which was nice.

Now that Rainbow and Star Driver are finished I've started my next round of "paired" shows. I found that for non-currently-airing shows it works well for me if I pair 2 or more shows up with each other to keep myself getting bored or burnt out on 1 show. So I try to keep the pace more or less constant in the watching of those shows.

Anyway, they are:

Bakemonogatari: I think I only got up to episode 12 the last time I watched it so I decided to re-watch the whole thing.

Dennou Coil: So far it reminds me a lot of Welcome to the Space Show both in art (although less high on colour) and that the story centres around a group of kids. The granny is awesome.

Natsume's Book of Friends season 2: At first I was going to do Tatami Galaxy but watched the first episode and decided pairing that with Bakemonogatari is going to break my brain so opted for Natsume instead since I've been hankering to get back to it. And it's generally peaceful and relaxing to watch.

No, I've been owned by many cats during my lifetime, but I'd rather not see it in an anime. It is not detailed, but they do seem to call more attention to it than is warranted. Also, Aria is the only cat in the show who gets this treatment. But I recognize that others have other opinions, so I'll say, YMMV.

Watched Redline finally, after being told by about a dozen people that I needed to. The animation quality was fantastic, everything else left a lot to be desired. It reminded me a lot of how I felt about Akira. An overhyped movie that people really like for its production quality, that really doesn't lend much story wise or give much of anything to its genre (and I'm not exactly sure what genre Redline fits into; a lot of it made me think of Heavy Metal).

Ah, someone else who uses the pairing concept, too! And I hear ya on the brain-breaking thing... if I discover through previewing or in-advance research that I've got two heavy titles together, I'll swap one of them out for something lighter.

Time for another update!

Starting Tomorrow

Ghost in the Shell: Stand-Alone Complex: 2nd GIG
The heavy title. Should be worthwhile, though!

A Little Snow Fairy Sugar
The light title. From the looks of it, it's what I like to call "Rot-your-teeth" anime, hehe... an affectionate term, of course.

Completed

Gundam SEED (GRADE: EXCELLENT)
This is by far the best AU (Alternate Universe) series in the entire Gundam mega-franchise that I've seen, so far. I only had a few complaints about a couple of the characters (Flay and Le Creuset), and the lack of a memorable score (but the songs were good), which is much better than tearing a series apart in disgust, like I did with Gundam X and/or G Gundam. I've been told that SEED Destiny is a much rockier series, but I'm on a mission to watch the whole franchise, and if I can get through the 2 aforementioned titles, I'm sure I can get through that, too. I won't be starting Destiny for a little while yet though, since Sunrise is currently releasing the HD Remastered episodes about once a week (and I'd prefer to watch the series in lumps rather than 1 ep/week).

Kurau Phantom Memory (GRADE: FAIR)
While the series had great dubbing, art style, and character writing, the storyline was shaky at best, due to the lack of explanation about the Rynex and their relationship with humans, and how exactly that worked/the Rynex multiplied. If you're going to talk about an alien species every 5 minutes in a 26-episode series, at least have the decency to explain it in detail somewhere down the line, please... Still, it wasn't all that bad. There were some great moments of vindication and character growth in the second half, which I liked. But I won't be rewatching it anytime soon.

Blue Sub No. 6 (GRADE: FAIR)
An excellent OVA for art style and... not much else. Characters were difficult to get into, and the story was shrouded in the depths of the sea or a polar fog... literally. I don't quite understand why this title is considered a classic (except for it airing on Toonami during that block's glory days) or why it has a cult following... Oh well. Could be worth seeing a remake of it from a different studio, though.

Highschool of the Dead (GRADE: GOOD)
And if anyone is qualified to remake Blue Sub No. 6, it's the guys who made THIS series. Character writing and growth, along with the survivalist nature of the storytelling, made for a very good series. The dub was especially good. However, the violence and fanservice levels for this series are almost off the charts, so the only other thing I will say is that it's an 18+ or even 21+ title as far as age ratings go.

Episode Count: 2,720

Once again, watching waaaay too many anime at once.
Fell behind in SWASDCA, have to catch up. Also, SnK.
Watching DRRR!!, Soul Eater, Kenichi, and Fairy Tail with my sister. We started Casshern Sins, but decided to put it on hold (Because we don't already have way too many going right now...)

^^^Why do you watch so many anime at once? I hate doing that. The only reason I do it is if an anime is ongoing or has licensing restrictions so I have no choice.

Watched the dub of "Ninja Nonsense." This show is terrible in either audio and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, and it's like the director wasn't even trying with the dub. Such terrible voice acting and Japanese name pronunciation. At least I got a few cheap, inappropriate laughs out of it.

Finished Initial D Fifth Stage. It was the typical affair for the most part, but it did focus considerably more on some pre-First Stage backstory. Most ID fans seem to not like it but I did. My only complaint is how it ended, but then I found out that another movie and Final Stage are in the works already.

I'm also starting Legend of the Galactic Heros after much prodding by several people, both on and off this site.

Since I last posted, I've blown through Moonphase, which was very lighthearted and funny, even if there was a little sexual stuff.
Also finished Attack on Titan, although I can't find anything beyond the 18th episode and it's driving me BONKERS. I am pretty much immune to violence, so I was able to vastly enjoy the plot.

Currently watching Free (see the dedicated thread), and just started Witch Hunter Robin. I'm only two episodes in, but I think the show has promise. However, I'd like to change Robin's hairdo. Am I the only one who can't stand those bizarre pigtails she has?

*shrug* That is an excellent question. Probably because my attention span is so short.
