Lydia nodded, she hadn't noticed Zare's transformation, as he was behind her. "Right, lets go... I don't know if I'll be able to tame this one..." She said, a bit reluctantly, then sighed. "Well, whatever. Relly, attack!" On command, the Daggeron charged at the snake, baring his many teeth and preparing to ram it with its jagged scales. As it ran straight ahead, Lydia jumped to the side and began flanking the Titanoboa, holding her knife out in front of her and the Taming Crystal closer to her chest, ready to activate it if need be.
The Titanboa was big, and seemed like it would be fast once the ice orb wore off, so the first few seconds of this battle, when it was slowed, would be vital. I should have put a few more skill points into dagger wielding... She thought woefully.

Zare crouched down into the grass, slinking through the grass behind Lydia.
"I'll attack the tail to keep it distracted while you do your thing. Your choice whether you try to tame it or not."
Then he swerved to the side, running alongside the snake's slender body till he reached the tail. All the while, he used the cover of the tall grass to stay invisible. The snake obviously knew he was there; but if he could stay out of sight, keeping it's attention off Lydia without getting killed himself would be easier. Zare darted in, swiping his claws across the end of the tail, then dashed away, crouching in the grass. All he had to do was keep it busy.

Sage Blaze, Saint Reave, and Priestess Elian

(Sage looks at Kiari as she takes down an ogre-like monster)
Sage: You’re finally getting your hands dirty. Good!
Saint: You handle yourself pretty well, Kiari. We should spar some time. (He gives Kiari a thumbs up as he grins)
Sage: Enough fooling around Kiari, we’ve arrived already. You should have been avoiding the monsters like we have instead of fighting them. Now I’m wondering whether you’re gonna be dead weight for us.
Elian: No, she won’t. Here, Kiari, please take this rejuvenation potion. (She hands Kiari the potion) You used too much energy fighting so many monsters. We need you at your best for what’s ahead.

OOC: Oh, it seems I've been gone... for a week... Hehe, sorry about that, everyone. Something came up and I had little prior notice and was out of town (out of the state, actually...) for a week. I'm back now, though.

P.S. Wolfy, that is what you call AWOL.

Like I could tame something so big! Lydia wanted to say, but wasn't able to as she was moving to attack. Relly ran right into the Titanboa's side with all the force it could muster, and with it's sharp scales, it could possibly deal some damage. While the gigantic snake was occupied with Relly and Zare, whom she couldn't see, Lydia ran behind it and, completely against her better judgment, jumped onto the grounded part of the snake, then quickly leapt again and ended up wrapping an arm around the upright part of the snake, near its head.
She held on tightly, trying to maintain her grip while the Titanboa thrashed around harshly, trying to fend off attacks from all sides and get this idiot thing off it's back. Lydia raised her dagger carefully, holding it pointed at the Titanboa, and tried to wait for enough of a drop in movement to get a good hit it. The whole thing reminded her very much of an older game on some outdated console where this situation was common, but she brushed that thought away.
Finally, the snake paused for just a moment and Lydia brought her dagger down at its back. She wasn't aiming to kill the Titanboa, not yet, she wanted to at least try taming it first, but if that proved impossible they'd have to be able to defeat it quickly.

OOC: Bonus points to whoever can guess what game she's referring to.

OOC: Don't worry about it. We just assumed you were dead. Good to have you back, though. I think Wolf had a similar situation, cause she hasn't been on. So we're just kind of hanging out, waiting for her. When she comes back she's bound to apologize up and down for being gone so long.

Zare jumped back as the tail lashed at him. What was Lydia doing? Was that really how Beast Tamers worked? It seemed pretty dangerous, but if she knew what she was doing...
Zare watched as Lydia brought the dagger down on the boa, waiting to see what would happen next. He needed to be ready in case he had to bail her out. If worst came to worst, he'd just have to grab her and make a break for it.

Lydia's dagger came down at the Titanboa's back, but then, at the last second, the beast sprang into motion again and Lydia's knife glanced harmlessly off the creature's scales. She held on tightly as the creature began turning and darting every which way, nearly throwing her off several times.
Just... gotta... get... closer... She thought, putting her other arm around the snake, she began to desperately do a crawl/slide up toward the boa's head, at the front of all this jumping and bucking madness. It took what seemed like ages to her, but in reality was probably less than a minute, Lydia finally got close to the Titanboa's face. The speed and ferocity of its movements had intensified, and she supposed that was the ice orb losing its effect.
Lydia reached her arm out, and her hand went right in front of the Titanboa's left eye, and the Taming Crystal in it began to glow and glow, ever brighter, beginning its pacifying process on the giant snake. I really hope this works... She thought.

OOC: Dunno if I actually want to catch this thing... Once you make another post, Claec, I'll settle it with a dice roll.

Zare saw what Lydia was trying to do, and stepped back, ready to take action. Slashing at its tail didn't seem like a good idea at the moment, so he decided to hold off and see whether Lydia would be able to tame the snake or not. If not, he was still willing to try to defeat the snake. He hated running from what would be worth a lot of experience points and a nice item drop. And there was his honor to think of...

Lydia held tight as the Titanboa continued its mad thrashing, while the Taming Crystal slowly took effect. It could only see it from one eye, and that slowed the process, but gradually, the giant snake began to calm down and its violent movements subsided. Lydia smiled, breathing out a sigh of relief, it had worked, now she could tame the Titanboa, and have one of the fastest animals in all Infinite as her pet.
Then, before she knew what was happening, the snake's tail whipped around and hit her, throwing her off of the creature's head. Her Taming Crystal fell out of her hand, and shattered as it hit the ground. She was falling downward, a long way toward the ground, but then she saw a blur of movement and her descent stopped abruptly. She looked up, and saw she was being held aloft by the Titanboa, which had her entire left arm in its mouth, and she could feel its teeth sinking into her.
An icon lit up in the corner of her vision, letting her know she had been inflicted with the poison status effect. Lydia sighed, Well, I tried. She thought, as the Titanboa whipped her around and flung her into a tree, causing her HP to drop drastically.

OOC: I'm assuming Lydia is in the tree, and didn't just get thrown against it. Otherwise this post will make no sense.

Zare watched Lydia as she held the Taming Crystal in the boa's vision, extremely intrigued. He got so caught up in the moment, he reacted a moment too late. A flicker in the corner of his eye caught his attention, but all he could do was lunge at the tail as it whizzed past, ending up eating a mouthful of dirt. He jumped up and spun around, only to see Lydia hanging in the snake's jaws, then thrown against a tree. Zare yowled in anger, launching himself at the Titanoboa. He dug his claws into its neck, finally managing to pierce through the scales, then sank his fangs into it. He only held for a few seconds before it's writhing motion threw him off, the wind knocked out of him as he skidded across the ground. Zare slowly stood up, barely mustering the strength to jump out of the way as the Titanoboa struck again. They faced each other for a moment, Zare recovering his composure. Then, as if by unspoken consent, they started again, each taking a turn to lash out at the other before dodging the next attack. All the while Zare was assessing his chances. As experienced as he was, he didn't feel very confident about taking down this snake. It was on par with a high-level boss, and he wasn't equipped to take it out at the moment. He'd hardly done any damage yet, and those scales were nigh-impenetrable. No, his best bet was to slow it down, then get Lydia out of there.
Zare growled at the Titanoboa, then sprinted toward the tree. He knew his speed skill would put some distance between him and the snake, long enough to transform. Upon reaching the tree, Zare ran around to the other side and changed, ending up with his back against the tree. He quickly pulled out two ice orbs, waiting. As he expected, the Titanoboa coiled around the tree, spreading it's jaws in front of him. Before it could strike, he shoved the orbs down its throat. The snake arched back, making a wailing sound as the orbs took effect. They'd be more effective from the inside than the last one was, and that was just what Zare needed. He quickly scrambled up the tree, keeping one eye on the agonized Titanoboa.
"Well, that didn't work," Zare said as he reached Lydia, attempting a small laugh. "Need some help?"

Lydia watched as, for some bizarre and unfathomable reason, a cat started fighting against the Titanboa once she was incapacitated. The cat and the boa dueled intensely, but it was clear that the snake was going to come out on top. Just when she thought the cat was going to fight until the bitter end, it jumped on top of the boa and sunk its claws through the nigh-impenetrable scales, then bolted away toward the tree Lydia was tangled in.
Lydia glanced at her health bar to see the status of her HP, and found that, with it being dramatically lowered from the bite and hitting the tree, in addition to the poison that drained her health, she was getting quite close to death. The poison, being from such a high-level monster, also had some paralysis properties in it, meaning she couldn't escape or heal herself, so her only line of defense was the mysterious cat, and Relly, who had taken to standing guard at the base of the tree Lydia was in.
She looked back to the battle just in time to see the cat run behind her tree, and the boa pursue it. She couldn't see what happened next, due to her awkward positioning up in the tree, but the next thing she knew, Zare was climbing the tree and offering her a hand. She grinned, "Oh, I'd love some help. Stupid thing got me pretty good, I think I'm about to die." She said, with way more cheer in her voice than her words would imply.

"Well, I'm no expert," Zare said as he put Lydia's arm over his shoulder. "But that doesn't sound too good; can you move at all?"
As he talked, Zare quickly worked his way down the tree with his free hand as he supported Lydia's weight, trying to be gentle but ever aware of the lingering danger. He was tempted to shift into cat form, but wasn't at all sure how he'd manage to help Lydia out in her current state.

Lydia sighed, she tried to move, but her body was entirely limp. All she could manage was bringing up her menu, and even then the only command that would work was 'Logout', a safety feature, she supposed, since it wouldn't do to have the house burn down around you because you were paralyzed in-game.
She shook her head, "Nope, pretty strong poison, I'm paralyzed, too. Got any Remedy's? I can pay the replacement cost later." She asked, right now, it looked like unless she got some item to cure her poison, she was dead. And if Zare stuck around to try and help her, he was dead, too. And since she couldn't use her items, she was relying entirely on Zare at the current moment.
She heard some kind of dull thudding below them every few seconds, and guessed it was Relly repeatedly body-slamming the Titanboa. Good boy. Lydia thought.

"It's on me," Zare said as he pulled up a paralysis remedy. He leaned against a branch as he waited for Lydia to recover. "So, how do you suggest we go about making a break for it?"
Zare was confident he could make it past the Titanoboa easily in cat form, especially with the Daggeron keeping it occupied, but he wasn't sure how Lydia would make it out of this situation in one piece. And he'd used the last of his ice orbs...Looking down, Zare judged that the ice orbs were still having an effect, as the snake sluggishly tried to counter the Daggeron's attacks. If Lydia could get back on her feet quick enough...

Lydia looked at her status icons, and saw that the paralysis one was wearing off quickly, thanks to the remedy, but the poison was staying. She spoke as she waited for the paralysis to completely disappear. "Well, once we get out off the tree, there really isn't much to do but run like mad. I assume you did something to immobilize the snake, which is why we aren't being attacked right now." She paused, thinking, "I don't have any Pets that can help us run, and I doubt teleport items will work in this area, since it's kind of a hidden boss. I guess we're just gonna have to book it and hope we can get away before the snake starts moving again."
Her paralysis wore off, and Lydia pulled an HP potion and an Antidote from her inventory, drinking them both in turn. Her poison was cured, and her HP returned to about %60. "Mmm, tastes like healing." She said, then smiled at Zare, "Well, you ready for the race of your life?" She asked.

Zare stood and stretched. "Ready when you are, slowpoke. It can't leave the clearing as a Titanoboa, so if we can make it to the woods, we're home free."
He decided not to shift, since it wouldn't do if Lydia couldn't keep up with him, disregarding the fact that he'd be vulnerable in human form. Zare leaned over and looked down at the snake, which was still rather preoccupied and drastically slowed. He resisted the urge to continue the fight, even though it seemed like a perfect opportunity. Even though he'd managed to avoid getting bitten, he'd taken more damage than he'd care to admit, and retreat was the most logical option at the moment.
"Alright, let's go at the same time. We have to stick together, or it'll target the lagger. One...two...three!" And with that, Zare jumped out of the tree, running for the woods.

On Zare's signal, Lydia jumped out of the tree, bending her knees to reduce the impact as best she could as she landed, and then started running beside Zare. If this was real life, Lydia probably would have broken a bone or at least twisted her ankle, but this wasn't real life, this was a world that had a slightly warped concept of fall damage, so she managed to get right up and run without even any HP loss. Funny, that.
She put a hand to her mouth and whistled piercingly, and behind her, Relly ceased his one-sided attack on the Titanboa and turned to catch up with them. Lydia was grinning madly as she ran, "Well, it's looking like we may not be getting that item, after all." She said.

"Heh, it's not the end of the world. At least you got out of there alive. You're either insane or have a lot of guts." Zare shook his head as he laughed at the picture of Lydia straddling the snake with her Taming Crystal in one hand. "Either way, that was pretty awesome."
Zare didn't risk stopping till they were a little ways into the woods. When they finally stopped, he rested his hands on his knees, recovering his breath.

Lydia couldn't help but laugh at the last part, "I imagine I made quite a sight." She said, and kept running.
When they finally stopped, Lydia turned her back to a nearby tree and let herself fall on her rump, putting her back against the tree, grateful for the respite. "Well, that was the most fun I've had in a while." She said, grinning. Then she remembered something from the battle, and she looked at Zare, "Hey, did you see that cat that was fighting the Titanboa? That thing was pretty cool, jumping all over the place like that. I wonder if it was made to distract the boa and give players a chance to escape if they start losing."

Zare gave Lydia a quizzical look. A cat?
"I don't-" He started when he realized that she was talking about him. Then, looking back, he further realized that she'd never seen him transform, and he'd never told her he was a werecat. This was an interesting situation...
"Er, yeah. It's a good thing it jumped in when it did, or I'd've been a goner." Zare wasn't exactly sure where he was going with this idea, but he'd have fun with it for awhile anyway. Sooner or later he'd probably end up having to reveal it. He scratched his head for a minute, contemplating (or rather pretending to contemplate) Lydia's suggestion.
"Yeah, I suppose it could've been something like that. Either way, lucky for us it appeared when it did." Zare couldn't resist throwing in, "It was pretty cool, wasn't it?"

Lydia did have to agree to that, "Yep, it was pretty cool. Maybe we should go back so I can try taming it. It might be a better pet than the Titanboa." She said, then shrugged. "Then again, I don't wanna have to get my rear end kicked again to trigger that thing coming out, so I guess I'll have to pass."
She was quiet for a moment, then said, "So, what are you gonna do now? We completely failed to beat it, so I guess you're already planning to move on to something else."

Zare managed to hold it in for a few moments, but then he doubled over laughing. Realizing he must look crazy, he straigthened up and coughed awkwardly.
"I didn't mean to laugh at you," he said through his smirk. "But cats aren't as easy to tame as you might suspect. But yeah, it's not worth going back in there."
Zare contemplated Lydia's question. "Well, I don't really have any earth-shaking plans. As long as I'm not working, I just collect items and level up. What about you? Have any long-term goals?"

Lydia shook her head, causing her green hair to fly around her face, "Nope, not so much. Well, I was... Ah, never mind that one." She said, she almost told Zare that she was hunting for the Dragon Gems to get Fafnir's Egg, but decided against it. There was no telling who could be trusted to even broach the subject of the Gems with.
"I was just out looking for things to tame. Then I found some kind of water-horse shapeshifter and ended up almost taming her, and then I teleported out and met you." She said, then shrugged, "Well, maybe I'll just look for a good place to take a nap. lots of nice nap spots in this world." She added, and wasn't in the least bit joking.

Zare looked up at the sun. He really should get a few things done irl.
"Yeah, I need to log out for a bit anyway. But hey, why don't we meet up again? I wouldn't mind questing with you sometime. Unless that's awkward. I know we just met like half an hour ago..."
He didn't want to impose or seem like a creeper, but he couldn't remember the last time he'd had that much fun. He really liked Lydia's optimistic attitude. It helped offset his own rather depressing outlook on life.

Lydia smiled wider than she had all week at Zare's offer. No, beaming would be a more accurate term for it. "OK! OK, that sounds great! We'll make a party next time, and have loads of fun!" She exclaimed, excitedly opening her menu and going to her friends list. For as often as she was out and about and meeting new people and getting all her contacts, she didn't have many actual friends to get together and have adventures with, so this was an exciting moment for her.
When she was prompted to add a new player, she typed in, 'Zare', and was met with the message 'player not found'. She frowned and tried again, with the same result. She looked up at Zare, "I think there's something wrong with my friends list." She said.

Zare watched Lydia as she ran through her menu, excitedly going to her friends list. Wow, she was enthusiastic. Zare shrugged, then pulled up his own menu to add Lydia. He looked up at her last comment.
"Whadya mean?" Zare scratched his head, looking at Lydia in confusion. When he realized what the problem was, he chuckled in embarrassment.
"Oh, yeah...about that..." Zare scratched his head a little harder. "That's not actually my full username. I was just a kid when I made it, so blame it on my immaturity."
Zare grinned. "It's Zareshtyvojikunemstyx," he said with flawless pronunciation. Because it would've looked foolish to have a username you couldn't even pronounce yourself.

Lydia simply stared dumbly at Zare as he revealed, and perfectly pronounced, his full, ridiculously long username. She looked at the virtual keyboard that was awaiting input, typed a few characters in vain, and then tuned back to Zare and said in a shocked, hollow-sounding voice, "You, add me. Message me. I'll copy and paste your username. 'Kay."

Zare laughed at Lydia's reaction. He missed the days when he'd had fun springing that on people. Nowadays he usually just went by Zare, since the occasion to need his full name didn't really come up, and he'd stopped having that kind of fun awhile ago. He added Lydia and sent a message that said "Thanks for the adventure, I needed it."

Lydia saw the icon alert her that she had a message, so she tapped on it and looked at it. She smiled when she saw Zare's message, then she copied his name, added him to her friends list, and sent a reply saying, "Don't thank me, that's what this game is for, right?"
She sent the message, then chuckled a bit, "That was dumb of me. We're right in front of each other, I could've just replied like this." She said, grinning.

So we're just kind of hanging out, waiting for her. When she comes back she's bound to apologize up and down for being gone so long..

OOC: pretend the computer is you, dear...

Just kidding. I am sorry guys, its been a rough week...almost two weeks, actually. :mutter: . Anyway, the basic story is all heck broke loose, including the computer breaking down and a run to get a job at the martial arts school I go to....my older brother got it. :( sigh....but hopefully I'm back. I'll try to pick back up again.

oh, and Oddood, you're court-martialed for backtalking to your supperior officer.

/Rowan/Caesar/
At that bit of news, Caesar's ears perked up. So this was a player, not an NPC! Log out= a chance to be free! But there was too much of the gentleman in Caesar for him to openly say what he yearned to say.
"I understand if you need to leave." He feigned ignorance of what logging out was, like any regular NPC. "Alas, I dare not stop. Not yet." He faked a warm smile at Kenji. "You have been a fine companion. Perhaps we'll meet again someday."
As he kicked his horse into a gallop, soon leaving the bordertown behind, he mentally added, "Not if I can help it, though." Outside, and far beyond human civilization, Caesar laughed out loud.

/Pierce/Arachni/
While waiting, Arachni visited an old place that was somehow still standing. It had been a good place for connecting with bounty hunters and anyone interested in earning some money. Now...
"Daggart, your tavern's really falling apart!" Arachni commented to the bartender, and owner of Daggart's Tavern. "What on earth happened?"
The huge man glanced up from the almost-empty counter, sighed and walked over. "The Cataclyst happened, that what. This place became known for brawls and general messes. On top of that, rumor had it that the head hackers used here as a base as well. Now that ain't right. Grigor only came here to rant and drown his troubles, and the snake only showed his face once. Life's unfair, I tell you!"
Arachni raised an eyebrow. "You seem to know an awful lot about it, for someone on the outside."
"Hey, if someone just waltzes in and shouts their identity, is it my fault? Besides, everyone knows that snake Python was the head. But the girl Saify, with the help of Cyrano, took his head. Everyone knows that."
Arachni smiled sardonically, leaning his head against his hand. "Ah yes, I heard that tale. Any word on the heroes now?"
"Besides the fact they've almost destroyed the Slaver's Guild? Romor says Cyrano cut the head off that adder just yesterday."
"Why Daggart! What has become of your motto, "live and let live"?" Arachni exclaimed in mock horror.
The big man looked at the counter, wiping hard at a spot that had long since ceised to exist. "She was right," he muttered. "Mirage was right. Only trouble has come to me." Then he suddenly looked hard at the man mocking him. "Who are you?"
Arachni smirked. "Me? I'm a living wonder." He extended his arms, smiling disarmingly. "I am so incredible Cyrano himself answers to me. I am a demi-god! I am ARACHNI!" His dramatic pose was perfect - except for the open smirk on his face; clearly he was laughing at himself.
Daggart raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. "Never heard of you."
Arachni dropped his arms, grinning. "Don't worry, you aren't the only one. Us first-timers aren't that well known."
Now Daggart smiled. "I see. Might help if you took that mask off. You'll be nicknamed Phantom of Infinite before you know it."
Arachni laughed, dropping a dozen of his gold coins onto the counter. Daggart raised his other eyebrow. "Either you're expecting a lot of change or you're mad."
"I hate seeing good men collapse just becauselife played them a dud hand," Arachni said with a smirk, so that Daggart couldn't tell if he was being mocked. As he turned to leave, Arachni noticed a man at the back of the room watching him, and he thought he recognized him. He winked at them and walked out. The man waited a bit, then followed him out. Daggart missed all this because he was scrubbing the counter and thinking.
"Now where have I seen that smirk before? I swear its familiar..."

/Zara/Kiari/
Ignoring Sage's comment, she grinned at Reeve. "That might be fun. Thanks," she said to Elian, drinking the potion.
She stared up at what was the Lair, a great mountain of rock and ore. There were four gaping entrances, each one leading to its own separate boss. Kiari grinned, putting her bold face over her nervousness. It was bad enough those two idiots had seen her back when she was unconscious and helpless. If she let them so much as glimpse her slight fear, she would never forgive herself.
"Alright! So...dibs on the third door?" she suggested, stepping toward it. "I've always liked threes. They feel right, you know?" Three...like a dad, a mom, and a child living together, just like things used to be...shut up! Shut up! SHUT UP! "See you when its over." and before they could say anything, she bolted into the opening, barely containing the tears that were threatening to fall. "Please," she prayed. "Please grant they didn't see. And please...bring my family back together. Please...."

/Carter/Valerian/
"Now look here, little lady," the captain bellowed. "We don't need no lady to get herself involved in something that's a man's job-"
Valerian had concluded that the man was your typical NPC grouch, when the entire ship suddenly rocked violently to the side.
"We're holed in the hold!" a frantic sailor cried, escaping the hold. At the same time, the man in the crow's nest was heard to shout that sea monsters were on their way. Just about everyone on board, sailors included, were panicing. THe captain, pale of face himself, strode off to try and restore order.
Valerian turned to Sage. "Can you fix it? Don't worry about pay. I'll cover the expenses myself if that idiot won't." Then he said to Mika, and Aeon since he seemed to be in control of himself. "Would you two be willing to fight? There'll be no getting those other people to help, so we'll be by ourselves. Would you help?" This last directed at Aeon.

OOC- Phew! My fingers' hurt...
