Indeed. Watched this recently myself. I felt like I missed something and didn't "get" the ending personally.

On a different note I'm watching Heroic Age right now.

Chitose Get You! A surprising amount of comedy packed into three minute episodes.

Princess Tutu: Well after my moaning previously, episodes 4-5, the vain prince and the ghost knight episodes were fantastic and then it was back to standard fair for eps 6-7, although the girls were more interesting in those. SPOILER: Highlight text to read: Still love evil!Mytho but my goodness is he ever abusive towards poor Rue. I hope her story doesn't end too sadly. I would like them to just capture the heart now so that the story can move forward though. Also, I would like to see Ahiru's friends get called out on their crap, just once. They're not unbearably annoying but their behaviour is getting a little old.

Finished Princess Tutu on Sunday and but for the few weaker episodes at the start of season 2 I'd have given it a 10/10. The ending was very satisfying all around. Only one small complaint SPOILER: Highlight text to read: man has the ability to re-write reality, especially reality pertaining to his girlfriend and at the very end she's still a duck. Fakir, man you're doing it wrong. However, I think it's a testament to the show that I'm actually perfectly happy imagining that he does eventually get her back to human even if I don't actually get to see it.

Finished Macross Frontier, and two movies following it.
The music was definitely the biggest selling point of the show in my opinion. Other than that, the characters really annoyed me. Especially in the movies.

I'm currently watching Trigun for the first time. I've heard a lot of people talk about it --just have never seen it until now.

Enjoying it so far. :)

Kotonoha no Niwa, a.k.a. The Garden Of Words:

Well, obviously, the very first thing that must be commented on is that animation/art. :pikka: It seems to me that some of it had to have been at least rotoscoped, if not actual live-action footage somehow blended in-- and if it was neither, then consider me even *more* impressed than I already had been! :wow!: -- but no matter how it was done, it was beautiful!

As for the story: This *is* a very short movie-- pretty much just as long as a normal live-action TV show episode without commercials :) -- so while the thread of romance running through it was a little compressed, I thought it worked well in the time it had. And while I do have to admit that I much, *much* prefer a whole lot more closure than this when it comes to romantic plots/subplots, I knew going into this that that's not Shinkai-sensei's style  , and anyway-- especially with that last dialogue line after the credits, which I thankfully found a translation for here-- as far as I can tell from what I've heard about his other works, this is apparently the most SPOILER: Highlight text to read: hopeful conclusion to a romance the man has ever done, aside from the *manga* version of Voices Of A Distant Star (a manga which I quite enjoyed, BTW :thumb: ). So, considering that, this was actually a pretty happy ending (for this director :) ), and one I can be (fairly :P ) satisfied with.

In short, it was well worth the watch. :thumb:
Saved by grace.

Yep, that was kinda how felt. Normally I'd be all like "but what happened to them? Did things stay that way forever? Or what?" But not in this case.

SPOILER: Highlight text to read: The last line about their new story just beginning was enough to reassure me that a) they HAD a story together, and b) it wasn't really part of this story, so it didn't belong here. And somehow that made it okay that I would never "know for sure" how their relationship was resolved, whether she stayed a duck forever, etc. I don't typically like any kind of ambiguity about relationships at the end of a story, so it's a real credit to the show that I was happy with that.

@ Mouse2010 Yes that's exactly how I felt too.

So I watched a couple of things this past week:

-Senyuu: Short and pretty funny and now I'm looking forward to the second season.

-Hotarubi no Mori e: Wow, SPOILER: Highlight text to read: I'm not a huge fan of sad or bittersweet stuff but wow that was just beautiful. Moral of the story; just let falling children fall. XP Makes me want to watch the 2nd season of Natsume. ^__^

-4 out of 5 of the Sweat Punch/Deep Imagination shorts: Junk Town was my favourite and Kigeki was pretty cool. Higan was ok, Professor Dan Petory's Blues was random and I didn't bother finishing End of the World.

-The World God Only Knows. Random impressions follow: The OP seemed a bit schizo at first but grew on me. Funniest bit was how Elsie introduces herself to Keima's mother. Library girl made me want to slam my head into a desk. Best quote, Elsie to Keima "I'm always impressed by how unafraid you are of making a bad impression." And OMG I died died died at the Heidi OP and Black Jack parodies, it was all kinds of amazing. I'll definitely watch the second season sometime soon.

-Mawaru Penguindrum: Another Best of 2000s title. I'm only a few episodes in but it's pretty intriguing, too bad I missed all the discussion when this was released.

Watched some movie stuff:

- The Princess and the Pilot: A simple movie. Not bad. Not particularly excellent either. Romance, flying, a bit of air battling and stunts.

- Kotonoha no Niwa (Garden of Words): A nice movie. Beautiful scenery and animation as usual for Shinkai movies. The characters could have been fleshed out a bit more. The set up for the story was good. The story itself was alright. The music was nice.
Out of the Shinkai movies I've seen, this is one of the better ones. It was better than Voices of a Distant Star, about equal to, possibly a bit better than, 5 Centimeters Per Second, but not as good as Children Who Chase Long Titles.

I am six or seven episodes into Tears to Tiara. Why is it that everything i've watched recently has King Arthur references somewhere in them?

I actually already finished this. I SOOOOOOOOO wish Arawn had died in the end!

The last couple of weeks, we've actually had time to watch some anime! So we finally finished Death Note. Having finished it, I have mixed feelings about this series. At first, I found this to be compelling. But as the series drew on, I liked Light less and less. Then a certain event happened about 2/3 of the way through, and I lost most of my interest.
SPOILER: Highlight text to read: The series should have ended with a face-off between L. and Light. Once L. was dead, I just didn't care all that much about the show. I wanted to see Light defeated, but I still would have liked some other kind of ending . . . I'm not sure exactly what I wanted. I can say that I was very unhappy about Misa dying. I wanted her to survive despite all of Light's manipulation.

So, I'm glad I watched the series, but I was ultimately disappointed in it, largely because of what I felt were some narrative missteps in the last half.

We also watched the first episode of Karneval. It reminded both my husband and me of El Cazador de la Bruja. I think we'll keep watching.

Wolf Children is wonderful and has taken top spot for the Hosoda movies for me. Both kids are so adorable and Yuki's laugh is incredibly cute. I have a few tiny tiny nitpicks because I'm a terrible person. SPOILER: Highlight text to read: While I liked the reversal of attitudes of the two kids, I thought their ultimate decisions were a tad cliche. I would have liked to see one or both of them try to balance the human and wolf sides of themselves more. While I don't think that was really what the story was about, it would have been interesting to see regardless. The other thing is that by the end of the story the kids seemed a lot older than the 10 and 11 I think they were supposed to be, which stretched my suspension of disbelief a little. I think it would have been a bit better had they been young teenagers. Lastly Wolfman, seriously, you really should have known better than to go and get yourself killed. This last point is not so much a nitpick as that I want to see them be a happy family together. T_T

EDIT 'cause I don't want to double post.

Penguindrum
ep 10: All the women in this show are nuts.
ep 11: SPOILER: Highlight text to read: Well Ringo's potion backfired on her like a champion, I was kinda terrified watching that. And then when Himari suddenly has the hat on, it was super creepy.
ep 13: Super Frog Saves the Penguindrum. SPOILER: Highlight text to read: I totally liked Pink Hair Guy but now he's very suspect.

Just finished Kids on the Slope.

...I am in such a state of flux over how to feel it's not even funny. I LOVED the series but....

SPOILER: Highlight text to read: What the heck was with that ending?! "Sure, I was a jerk and practically assaulted you, but...sorry. IT'S ALL GOOD, RIGHT?!" and "Sure, I was a jerk and just DISAPPEARED on you for eight years, but IT'S ALL GOOD, RIGHT?!" ARGH! I know it was supposed to be touching and probably all "time heals all wounds"y. But...but...just...ARGH. I WANT CLOSURE. APOLOGIES. ACCEPTING OF STUPIDITY AND RESPONSIBILITY!

...okay. ahem. I'm okay now.

Yu Yu Hakusho, season one. The animation has its ugly moments at times, but the story is pretty good and I like all the diversity.
