Ceres: Celestial Legend

Has anyone else read this series? I've read up to volume 3, and I thought it was pretty good; not superb, but good. It's got a lot of suspense and an interesting story. As most of you should know, Yu Watase's a very good mangaka. The manga does include some nudity though; I would have used "the pen" but I was borrowing it from a friend. Mrs. Q cracks me up!

A friend of mine considers Toya to be very cool. ;^^x
Heart of Sword's Rhapsody

Money, get away
Get a good job with good pay and you're okay
And all and all you're just another brick in the wall
Shoutin’ in the street gonna take on the world some day
But Bismallah will not let me go
Because I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Tommy used to work on the docks
Union's been on strike
Bright eyes burning like fire
And exposing every weakness
However carefully hidden by the kids

Who will love a little Sparrow
Who's traveled far and cries for rest
Spare him his life from this monstrosity

I've seen a million faces and I've rocked them all
And if the band youre in starts playing different tunes
We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you!

Oh, well for those who don't know it's about a 16-year-old girl named Aya Mikage who sometimes becomes posessed by the Ceres, the Celestial Maiden, a being who wants revenge on the rest of the Mikage family because their ancestor stole her Celestial Robes. The family is now out to kill Aya, to keep Ceres from destroying them. Aya's twin brother Aki, happens to be the reincarnation of the man who stole the robes... It's a pretty complicated story and has a lot of plot twists, but it's not so bad as long as you "the pen" it.

Um, seeing you're only 14 years old, Kireihana, I'd like to provide some warning. ^^;; In a rather near volume (can't remember which...I'll have to look again), Aya and Tooya will be participating in a bed scene; it's not too explicit and you don't see body parts that you shouldn't, but it's very, very suggestive and they've got a few pages devoted for it. And afterwards, she almost did it with Yuuhi, but they didn't get too far because...well, never mind. I've spoiled enough.

I don't know if they do it to American-licensed manga as well, but a number of Ayashi no Ceres volumes have warnings wrapped around the books saying that they shouldn't be viewed by readers under 18. Hong Kong- and Taiwan-licensed ones usually do.

I believe the Touya/Aya bed scene was in Vol. 2 (unless you're talking about a different scene), but they later claimed nothing had happened. (Still, that doesn't make it right) But I agree, the series isn't for little kids. I wouldn't have bought it myself but a friend had it and lent it to me. I rented the second volume from the library, and it was the older flopped version and not rated. The newer US version is rated T+ and no warning lables... maybe they edit it somehow for American audiences?

Er, no, that was not in Vol. 2. What happened in Vol 2 was really nothing compared to it. I just checked...what I was talking about happened much later, in Vol. 7, when the relationship had already reached a certain level. ^^;; Anyway, it didn't stop there.

I'm not going to be preachy because I read AnC when I was 17 (well, so much for that, lol), but it's just a word of caution. ^^

Ok then. Thanks, I've decided that I probably won't read further into the series until I'm older, if I ever do. What about Watase's Imadoki, which is being released soon?

well ill just say watase doesnt have a gift for keeping sexuality out of her books, ceres has it, fushigi yugi is FULL of it so i dont have high hopes for imadoki in that realm...

i will say however that i admire you for choosing to not read any further, that can be a tough choice to make.

Well, thus far Alice has been pretty clean, so I'm crossing my fingers over Imadoki. Hmm. . . I'm gonna go check some rating stuff and I'll get back to you Kireihana.

By the way, Kirei, I'm so proud of you for adopting my "the pen" phrase. I say it should be adopted as general manga jargon. ;)
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

alice is only in the first few stages right now, watase generally strives to develop meaningful relationships between love intrests so it takes mroe than just a few novels, look at ceres you dont get anything all that bad til vol 7 fushigi yugi is similar (though i believe it starts sooner) so its hard to tell in the early stages

I think so too. It's rather... pleasing to say. The Pen. The Pen. The Pen.

I know it's kind of an old thread, but I needed to post this: I found out (not by reading it) that the 9th Ceres volume has graphic depictions of sex, so BEWARE.

Sorry mods...I hope this is alright.

One of the things I have trouble doing is stopping reading a manga series after I start. Need to work on that. o.O

I've been reading Ceres for awhile. I haven't been buying it but borrowing it from a friend. Every time I read a volume I'm left feeling a little unsettled. From everything. I would not recommend this series to people with weak stomachs.

I recently finished reading vol. 8 and have decided to try toresist the urge to continue with the series just to find out what happens.
I'd like to slip into something more comfortable....like a coma.

Not a problem, and thank you for being thoughtful enough to bring up the thread. ^^

Hmm... I don't seem to have a problem dropping a manga/anime/tv/etc series. If you are having trouble, you should occupy yourself with something else. Find another series to get yourself into; there are plenty of clean suggestions all over these boards. That's my advice. But I know that unsettling feeling; it's very uncomfortable. I think it's my conscience's way of getting across to me. I'll pray for you to resist your urge. ^_^

Just a note too, that I have read Fushigi Yuugi and Alice 19th and ended up having to stop with them becuase of nudity issues . . .
Watase is not shy in this area and all of her mangas start out sweet and innocent and then she slowly begins to insert little things until before you know it your'e hooked and reading something most likey hentai-ish. There was a thread discussing Watase a while back . . .
Anywho just thought I'd comment as seeing as myslef and others have been seeing more of Watase's work is really like.
