I'm a character artist

Postby Chapel » Thu May 13, 2004 12:18 pm

I like the samuri I think you need a more showing picture of the space alien bad guy. all i see is a hand. I'd like to see the rest of the villian. Yeah about backgrounds I'm more of a character artist, i've been working on back grounds, but I'm really not that amazing. I just don't have those abilities yet. I think we should use that samurai and I'll give you my opinion of the bad guy when I see the rest of him. James looks like a vampire. Old schoole Bela vamp. Doesn't set easy, just my opinion. I really like the samurai though looks like Kenshin's first wifes brother. In Samurai X

If we plan to use that bad guy....you never see his face until the final fight. He always wears that Jason-esque mask. I kinda got the characters inspiriration from Zabuza and Haku from Naruto all rolled into one.

I was going for a Enishi-esque look for Mr. Samurai.

Oh yeah I also drew a picture of Jill Kelly (is she the inventor girl). I based her a bit of Ritsko from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Even though she's very smart, she has a elequent buety about her that most guys miss, that show I drew her.

As for the android, think Rei Ayanami and Chi

Eh, as has been said, it's anime. There's always Android 009 to point at.

Android 009? ((ff7 characters were drawn anime style, unless what i consider anime is different from what you call anime....))

Foremost, allow me to say that anime is a medium not an artform. There are dozens of different manners of art that are all anime, ranging from the extremely deformed to the extremely realistic. No style must be specifically conformed to.

Having said that: I was alluding to the anime Cyborg 009.

Go to the link. Check out Cyborg 002's hair. See my point.

Anime is simply a contraction for the word animation. When ZiP said 'i think anime', i'm sure he meant all types of artforms, but I'm just wondering how a ponytail can be so vertical. I didn't want to start an argument intentionally.

Eh....the girl is Cyborg 002?

I am not arguing, actually. You are correct in stating that anime essentially means animation... but only to the Japanese. When people in America use the term, they refer almost uniformly to a specific style, or just animation from Japan in general. The point is moot, anyway.

All I believe ZiP meant was that in anime hair doesn't have to obey rules of physics. In some cases, it doesn't have to obey anything. But this is really also a moot point... and the ponytail doesn't have to stay that way the entire time, after all, this is concept art.

Actually, Cyborg 002 is male...

I was referring to the Cyborg 009 anime in general, not the specific cyborg numbered 009. His hair is just average. Cyborg 002 definitely disobeys a few laws of physics, in addition to looking more than slightly odd.

That is an awsome hair set!
almost exactly what I was going for, as for the color, well we can twak color after we get the actually design. One thing though, the ponytail would probably stick higher in the air.

I wouldn't really worry about that right now, because this is should really start out as a webcomic. That is how something like this can be published right now. It takes a lot of effort to produce something publishable, and there is just not a market right now for American-made Manga. With webcomics, that is changing slightly, but it will be a few years more before American manga (probably be something different like manwha is Korean manga, so it might be the same with our stuff once it gets mainstream) will be published right off the bat.

Just remember that Kim will be taken as fanservice by that outfit, even though we don't mean for it to be.
