About the new episode:
This episode was actually really good! They did a great job of parodying the various detective shows they have done in the past, and Pinkie Pie and Twilight were an awesome detective duo! I almost thought it was a little underdeveloped, but overall it was a really good episode. The ending was hilarious as well, with Pinkie Pie eating the entire cake and all. Its just so like Pinkie Pie, it just makes you laugh. And I was just waiting for an episode where there would be several rival chefs on the road to a contest, and while the rivarly shown was short, it really was good in what the writers wrote, and I almost hope they do some type of great bakers competation episode at some point.

I totally agree that I would love to have seen more development and more interaction between the chefs, but there's only so much you can do with a 22 minute plot arc! I thought that the content in this episode was great, though! It was complex enough to be intriguing, but also fairly simple and wrapped up nicely. I didn't think it was too predictable, either. Pinkie's "Who done did dood it!" line was great, and I really loved the plethora of references in this! At the end when Celestia was about to eat some of the cake, all I could think about was that article from Ponyville Confidential where Celestia gets caught stuffing her face with cake XD
Yes, I understand that. Which is why I occasionially wish the episodes were longer. But all and all, it was a great episode, but it just feels like an appetizer to the great event in two weeks.

On the episode:
This was definitely the most forced episode I've seen so far. There was a lot I liked about the episode. The return of griffons, Donut Joe and Pinkie's villain scenes were all great. The mystery theme got shoved to the side unfortunately, which was a shame but not really a problem. So this was a Twilight and Pinkie episode and almost a reverse episode from 'Feeling Pinkie keen', which I found really interesting. I like how Pinkie Pie is trying to prove herself in this episode, trying to be the character that's responsible and protect the cake and then trying to be the hero by finding the villain. And then gets a little mad when Twilight shows off and even learns from Twilight at the end.
What really didn't fit well was how they used the rest of the main 6. They were basically just there serving as props to make the mystery part of the story work, serving no bigger role than regular background ponies. Usually we would have some fun dialog or actions from them, like in 'Feeling Pinkie keen' we see Fluttershy remembering 'hop, skip and a jump' and Applejack's conversation with Spike. In this episode I don't even remember if Fluttershy had any dialog, Rarity and RD had a few small moments and Applejack was just there. I imagine that Fluttershy at least would have tried to tell Pinkie she ate the cake while Pinkie and Twilight was busy investigating. All-in-all a fun episode with a few things I would nitpick about.
Also, Twilight really likes that bubble pipe, I mean she really likes that bubble pipe. And we can now say that Celestia is most definitely a cake addict.
It's two more weeks until the wedding and we have two ideas.
1. Blender
2. Matching horseshoes
I would like a few more ideas before the end of the week, so please help us out.

It's been a while since I made a PMV, but I finally got one up. CMC together forever

Edit: Thanks guys, I fixed it. xD
Am I the only one who thought this episode was...kind of out of character? Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy and Rarity knew how important it was to Pinkie Pie that the cake arrive to the competition unharmed and how the Cakes were counting on her. It seemed really selfish to me that they just decided to eat it because it sounded good, pretty much lied about it by not speaking up and never really truly seemed sorry about what they did. That's just my opinion though.
Don't worry about it. This is spoiler tags: [ spoiler ] smush it all together. And when the text is finished: [ / spoiler ] all smushed together.

And regarding what Bio said, I can understand what you mean. It did seem kind of forced, and the other ponies did lack any witty, or humorous spot in the episode. But, writers do have their bad days. I found it kinda funny that the bubble cigar Pinkie uses has actually been done before. If you have heard of Veggietales, Sherluck Holmes (who was played by Larry the Cucumber), also smoked a bubble cigar. Whether they looked at that for reference or not is debatable, but I doubt they looked at that because Veggietales is realtivley vague, but its something to consider. I do kinda wish there was more screen time for this, but I have already addressed that I wish these episodes were longer some times.

And regarding what you said Topaz, that's an interesting way to look at things. What you're saying is its in the character's nature to do bad things, but not to do these certain things. I can see how you might find it to be OOC for those three characters. Rainbow Dash might actually do it, I mean, she is a real jerk sometimes. But the other two seem very unlikely. I don't think there is a way I can disagree with you because that statement has a lot of things to back it up. So, I am inclined to agree with you.

I actually agree with you. The episode had some good clever moments, but the rest of it felt really forced.
I'll take a dangerous guess and say the problem with this episode was too much fan service. I love the shout outs to the fans, but it's not why I fell in love with the show. I saw great references, but I also saw valuable time wasted that could have been used to define Rarity, Fluttershy and RD more in this episode. I'm actually hopping to see some fan comics with the three in a different train car, with Fluttershy confessing to the other two without knowing they were also guilty. Telling them that she was going to tell Pinkie and the other two stopping her from doing so out of guilt. Or something along those lines. Still, I can see that great story I love under it all.
The Elements of Hormony is kind of strange, isn't it? Compared to other kid shows we might get a different focus on the elements. Maybe the elements would be knowledge or wisdom, strength, maybe bravery (they always use bravery a lot), a type of skill, things like that.
Yet we have the Elements of Harmony and they are:
Kindness, generosity, honesty, loyalty, laughter and magic/friendship.

What is interesting is that recent deviations I posted quotes an interesting verse:
Gal 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

I think it's great that the Elements of Harmony is so closely based on the good fruits of the Spirit. Twilight's element of magic can also be defined as love. And there is also Pinkie's element of laughter that's closely linked to joy, something I personally think is a very important part of the fruits of the Spirit.

Just something I wanted to share with everypony. :)
We have three rather long sequences depicting the bakers as bad guys. The silent movie type villain, James bond, and a ninja. All a lot of fun, and needed to get our focus away from the mystery theme, but I think it was too long.
I watched to first two episodes the other day. Not fantastic, but pretty dang good. I sure hope it keeps it up. Fluttershy is my favorite. Also, being able to finally call myself a brony after hearing so much about it kinda makes me happy in an embarrassing way.

Regarding our other discussion:

SPOILER: Highlight text to read: I think we should find a way to collect the bride and groom's best moments together, and put it in a book. You know, it might work. If it sounds stupid tell me.

Welcome, Vilo! If you enjoyed the first two episodes, then you will enjoy the rest even more! With the exception of a few, I think the episodes just get better and better as the series goes along.

Regarding the discussion about the most recent episode:
I completely agree. I wish we could have seen more of the interaction between the three ponies (if there was any). It's tragic that only so much can be done in 22 minutes, and the writers chose to go with the fan service (although I did love those sequences). Usually there is a good balance between fan service (references and such) and good character development, but it felt like they forsook the development too much on this one. And some episodes will be like that. It's a shame they aren't 44 minutes long instead of 22! Keep dreaming, Felix.
Also, Bio, your CMC PMV was awesome! I really enjoyed it :)
Wow, hard to believe that the prince wound up being so snobby... 0_o But I LOL'd when Rarity smashed the glass slipper so he wouldn't find her! XD
The fact that the show is done in Flash means we get awesome stuff like this.

This kind of thing wouldn't be possible with a traditionally animated show. I think I like Flash now. I feel dirty. But as long as we keep getting videos like this...it's probably worth it.

@Anom I don't want to go there. I'll put cake on the list though.

@Sno I know! I just wanted to strangle him throughout the episode. I never expected that. I loved Rarity's line “Afraid to get dirty?” and Fluttershy's “You will love me!”

I know right? I found that episode one of the best ever. And you get to see what happens when you put a character like Fluttershy in a situation where nothing goes her way. Even someone as calm and graceful as her and go crazy when things don't go her way. Twilight, I realized, was the only one not involved in the great catostrophe that happened at the end of the episode, so I am not exactly sure how she was involved in making the gala more fun.

More specificially, they used flash animation techniques to place certain backgrounds, and characters, as well as to animate the pony's hair. They used basic geometric shapes, and then implanted the flash animation to make the hair flow and animate smoothly without having to actually animate each individual hair. Its not nearly as hard as doing the regular animation style, but its clever none the less.

And ROFL on the video by the way.

And ADXC, glad you are enjoying the series. :)

Taking into account the fact that John de Lancie said he was doing some voices for FiM, we can safely assume that Discord will return sometime during season 3 or 4.

I'd actually like it if he took more of a dark turn, possessing people. Like using Spike against Twilight, hinting that she's jealous of the fact that he tries to spend more time with Rarity then her.

Interesting. It would be cool to see Discord come back. But I disagree with your theory that Twilight would ever be jealous. I know they have done some strange things to her, but Spike X Rarity was solved in the second season. Spike doesn't spend any time googly eyeing her, therefore, Discord could not use that as a way to sway Twilight.

Granted, I think the possesing idea is cool, but it may be a little bit dark for a little girls' show.
