What's your love language?

Talk about anything in here.

Postby steenajack » Mon Oct 24, 2011 10:27 pm

Letsee, I scored highest in Quality time, words of affirmation, and physical touch (scored 9, 8, 8). For acts of service and receiving gifts I scored a 2 and a 3, not sure which score belongs to which though. XD!

I feel liked that I can feel and understand I'm loved in all languages. I know with my boyfriend, I feel very loved by him. I notice though, I tend to really appreciate his very genuine and heartfelt compliments to me, and when I was able to visit him physically for the first time (it's a long distance relationship) I just delighted so much in being able to really hug him and hold his hand. It wasn't sexual or anything in nature per say, but it was rather beautiful. Most of all, whether he's far away or close by I just love every single moment I get to spend time with him.
Interestingly enough, I find myself affected similarly among other people I love. I love to give hugs to people, and when anyone gives me even a simple compliment I feel very blessed and happy. And simply being around the people I love just makes me feel content. I absolutely hate feeling or being alone. If I need my introvert time, I'll go find a quiet space to relax. Even then though, I like it best when other people are in the house or vacinity somewhere. I don't like being completely alone in an empty house. ^^; When people do nice things for me, or give me gifts I appreciate that too. I tend to accept out people's love language as "This is how they show they love me...I love them so much because of it! XD" I'm such a sap when it comes to love.

I know what you mean, steena. I'm sappy when it comes to love. Maka, I feel the same way about words of affirmation. I tell people I love you all the time. I don't feel like I'm only allowed to say I love you to one guy. I don't say it out of flirtation but I just say it because I say it to everyone I love.
"And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus." This quiz needed more options. Seriously. And the options are ridiculous.

1. Words of Affirmation
2. Quality Time
3. Receiving Gifts
4. Acts of Service
5. Physical Touch

I like quality time more, watching a movie, talking, etc.

Words of affirmation was the highest, physical touch was the lowest.

I have to agree with Ferb, that test was really ridiculous. I don't have a husband, so most of it felt pretty awkward for me. I've never even been in a romantic relationship yet.

Quality Time
Acts of Service
Words of Affirmation
Physical Touch
Receiving Gifts

I feel weird.

Out of curiosity, I took the single's version. (Had to poke around the site a bit. There's a kids' version too.)

The questions were often frustrating or almost painful. For example, I had to choose between "What someone does affects me more than what someone says" and "Hugs make me feel connected and valued". Both kind of went against every fiber of my being. XD Not to mention all the "Which would make you feel more loved: receiving a hug or a gift?" questions. (Both make me feel terribly awkward.) The thing seriously needed a 'skip question' option.

But I did persevere, and supposedly my love language is "Quality Time", which got 11 out of 12. Following this were "Words of Affirmation" (7), "Acts of Service" (6), "Receiving Gifts" (4), and "Physical Touch" (2). Quality time is the only thing on the list that doesn't make me awkward in almost every single case, so I guess it makes sense.

For me, quality time kind of equals physical touch. I like to spend time with people, and part of what's awesome about spending time with people is getting to have physical contact with them, like hugs and cuddling and such.

I had a really hard time when I had to separate the two concepts, first when I went to Bible college, then when I went to Japan. It took a long time for me to feel like I was getting quality time without physical contact.

I found options for singles, wives, husbands, parents of teenagers and children here:

http://www.5lovelanguages.com/assessments/love/

My results:

3 Words of Affirmation
11 Quality Time
1 Receiving Gifts
9 Acts of Service
6 Physical Touch

Quality time with a friend and/or loved one is a pretty big deal for me. I'd rather somebody spend time with me than shower me with gifts.

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

I feel like people don't love me if they don't let me touch them. I love patting people on the head or gently stroking their faces. If they really don't mind, I'll put my hand on their hand. I'm a European when it comes to the personal bubble. I love violating people's personal space for yuk yuks. I do it in a way that doesn't come across as flirting.

That's more like it! I got
9 Words of Affirmation
8 Quality Time
1 Recieving Gifts
7 Acts of Service
5 Physical Touch

I think that's pretty accurate. I can forget about a gift easily, but the moments that I love are when my friends and I are sitting around talking and sympathizing with eachother for hours on end. And being helped is always nice ^.^

I use words to tell others I love them, and I'll also give them hugs whenever I can. :) I do my best to be self-sacrificing for them, and just try to be the best friend or family member I can be to them.

First off, I love that the Singles option is a cup of coffee.

Second, my score:

6 Words of Affirmation
9 Quality Time
7 Receiving Gifts
4 Acts of Service
4 Physical Touch

Third, I felt so selfish while taking this test. All about how I prefer people to love ME!

Took the singles quiz. Nothing really changed except that Physical Touch dipped below Quality Time, with Words of Affirmation still firmly in the lead.

Not necessarily. The way we receive love is often the way we also communicate love. Because of that, it's important to understand the way we feel loved, and the way others feel loved.

For example, I want to communicate to my friend that I love her. I put myself in her shoes, wondering, "Okay, what would make me feel loved?" So I write her a long letter all about how wonderful she is, because that's what I would like.

As it turns out, she really loves acts of service and gifts, and doesn't much care for words, so she's disappointed because what she really would have liked is a makeup mag that I made myself just for her, because it's useful and I obviously put a lot of time into it.

In another example, I come home from work and my husband has done the dishes and cooked dinner, but he never once tells me I'm beautiful and he doesn't know what his life would be like without me. I do not feel loved. Is this reality? No. He loves me. He's communicating that; he's just using a language I don't use. But if I don't understand my own love languages, then I might feel hurt and unloved and not be sure why.

So it's important to understand one's own languages, so that one can understand one's reactions and interactions with others.

Yeah. My adoptive daddy is not a physical touch type of person but he's a quality time. I'll spend a long time sitting there and talking to him about life and such. Since he know's I'm a touch, he'll put his hand on my shoulder while talking to me when I'm upset. I only purposefully invade people's personal bubbles if they let me. One of my friends lets me do that and I get right in her face. As a joke, I'll touch my nose with her nose and we'll rub noses when we talk. She always asks me why I'm being a creeper as a joke ;).

I would say I'm both physical and emotional contact. Though I tend to lean more towards the emotional side of it more then anything else. ^^

I scored highest in the Words of Affirmation. Seems kind of weird, because if you took anyone else that I'm related to and spend more than just holidays with, no one else would get that. Now some of my odd behaviors as a kid make a little more sense. I was kind of like a puppy, you could treat me like dirt, but I'd do anything just so someone would say something nice to me. Now, my family is nothing like that, like I'm betting if my mom took this, she'd probably be Acts of Service, because if I just do my chores well, she's happy all day long, but on the flipside, if I screw up, she's not very forgiving.
I don't know what I know.
