What is your favorite mythical beast/monster of legend or folklore? My personal favorite is the Jersey Devil. xD I know, me and my strange threads. If you have no idea what this thing is, here is his Wikipedia page.

Does Eugene Victor Tooms count? Only "monster" or whatever that ever actually freaked me out.

Tooms I liked.

The only X-files Monster that scared me was the Toilet Monsterin Agua Mala. I always checked my seat for a Month after I watched that episode.

I love Dragons the best <3 Griffins, Hippogriphs, and pheonixes are also very cool. And although Mermaids aren't always considered to be monsters (Unless they''re luring poor sailors to their deaths) they're cool too.

Thanks for the links to your monsters guys. I wouldn't have known what some of them where otherwise. This has been very interesting. I do love dragons and griffons as well. Oh and the Black Shuck! Those are really interesting, I'm usually rather fond of any canine beast. Though after watching an episode of Monster Quest about the Jersey Devil I did a lot of research and now I'm pretty interested in anything to do with him. I call him Jeffrey! He looks like a Jeffrey to me.

My pick: The wraiths. You can't even see them coming. Now THAT's scary.

I'm partial to Cookie Monster and Elmo, myself. Sesame Street's old enough to fit into legend territory now, right? :)

As long as it's the classic versions and not what they've turned into now.

Nah, they're still great! Elmo is the same old Elmo - he's just omnipresent - and Cookie acts exactly the same, with the big exception that he eats treats besides cookies now.

Me <--- Sesame Street expert since my kids watch it everyday!

I like the cyclops, sirens, Scylla and Charybdis from The Odyssey. Also Grendel and Grendel's mother from Beowulf. As well as the Ring Wraiths, Shelob, Gollum, the Balrog and the Barrow-wights in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Oh, and the killer rabbit in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Not that killing people is a good thing, but they were good antagonists (of a sort) in the stories.

Other mythological creatures I like: dragons, griffins, centaurs, the Pegasus, fauns, chimera and the jackalope.

Not to mention the lovable monsters in Monsters, Inc. Smitty and Needleman are probably my two favorite (apart from the main characters) in that movie.
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

I've always liked the idea of Cerberus, a dog with several heads guarding the underworld. Would make a good guard dog of secret mirrors and would be great to play fetch with.

Hmmm.... Either a Dragon, or an ork.... OOOOH! OOOH! I know! My favorite monster is one I made up (I like writing fantasy, so I make up quite a lot of creatures) but, unfortunatley, I can't tell you because I don't want my idea to be stolen.....so that was pointless. I guess I'd have to go with Dragon. And not dragon tales dragons, either, GIANT MYTHICAL FIRE BREATHING LIZARD WITH WINGS type dragon.
So there you go.

I've always liked the idea of werewolves, but it's too broad a term nowadays for a werewolf to simply be a man who turns into a wolf once a month, unfortunately.

Traditional merpeople are very scary. They lure people to their doom in the waves. Mermen can also summon powerful sea storms.

Then again, just about all mythological creatures have their roots in very dark and tragic tales. I always say that anybody who thinks all fairies are like Tinkerbell would be very shocked after reading some traditional tales about them.

My favorite? Hmm... Kind torn between traditional merpeople, traditional fairies, kitsune, centaurs, vampires, werewolves, and phoenixes. :) Dragons are pretty cool too, but I prefer some portrayals over others.

Wow... I'm REALLY not up on my monster mythology...

I like dragons and vampires.

AND GODZILLA. NOT THAT SISSY MATTHEW BRODERICK TRASH, EITHER. I'M TALKING OLD-SCHOOL FLOPPY FIN RUBBER COSTUME GODZILLA.

Man, I haven't watched those movies in so long... so bad it's goooooood... XD

Also, if it's been a monster on the Doctor Who reboot (with the exception of the Slitheen and a few others), I like it. Shout out to armeckthefirst for mentioning the Weeping Angels; those ARE scary.

You mean the actual Japanese Godzilla?
"And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus."
