Old Earth Vs. New Earth

Postby TGJesusfreak » Mon Feb 28, 2011 4:27 pm

I've wondered about this a lot lately. and I dont know which one is right in christianity.

Now, I dont beleive in evolution at all. But the earth does seem to be older that 6000 years to me. They found ammonites at the top of Mt. Everest for cryin' out loud. And the continents move so slow, there's no way they could have formed the himalayas so fast.

But then again, the bible account of creation says days. and some argue that "days" means a "period of time" ... now that does make some sense to me.... but alas
I AM STILL CONFUSED XD

anyone have anything that might help?

Mods: I hope this isnt too contraversial or anything.... if it is then please close it >.>

Here's my opinion on the subject:

I don't go there. People get really worked up about this topic, and frankly, I leave it alone because I don't think it affects my salvation one way or the other what I believe about it.

I should have saved my "In before the lock" picture for this thread.

Though theological debates are still allowed, this is still in the rules so...

"Cosmology Debates - Unfortunately, after too many creation/evolution debates, this is no longer a topic allowed for discussion at CAA."
Now, I dont beleive in evolution at all.

I have a friend who doesn't believe in gravity at all.

We should make another one with Indiana Jones.

Maybe this thread could be transformed into one about the New Heavens and the New Earth versus our current Earth? Just a thought.

As far as I know, the Cosmology debate rule is still on the books. I am curious to see if this gets locked for that reason, since it was always a bit redundant, and it seems like it could go along with the great experiment.

Can we stay on our best behavior, just in case? It's not locked yet.

If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things."

Well if it matters any to the mods. I do NOT want this to be about evolution. I'm just curious of the date the earth was created. XD;; But if it's not a legal thread then oh wells. Rules are rules. =P

and he doesnt beleive in gravity? Next you'll tell me that the cake is a lie D=

Well do remember that God is all powerful, so he could have made stuff look/date to earlier than he created them, or he created them with the atomic level already partially half-lived. There's also people that believe it's more than 6000 years old, but it couldn't have been for 45000000 years ago, that just doesn't have any logical evidence. My take is that it's not 45 000 000 years old, but I think it's long enough to have fit the whole cronology of everyone in the bible, to give you a decent estimate, then from there add something like 2000

This doesn't have any proof so I don't linger on it, but I do tend to lean over on the younger aged earth, and not the science text book earth.
And this I pray, that your love would abound still, more and more with real knowledge and all discernment. Be prepared to preach the gospel at a moment's notice. Do you know the gospel well enough to do so yourself? Be ready.

Or, you could have the best of both worlds and say that God created the world and it formed in say, (insert amount of years), but then God fast forwarded the process to make it six.

Granted, but then Last Thursdayism.

See, the world didn't exist before last Thursday. All the memories you have, all the things that look like they existed before last Thursday? Well, God just created them to look like they did. In reality, the universe did not exist before last Thursday and was created with the appearance of age.

What you're saying is essentially the same thing.
that just doesn't have any logical evidence.

It has plenty of logical evidence. Whether you choose to believe it or not is up to you, but just because you don't like it doesn't make it not logical.

Considering that this whole concept means trying to apply finite timescales to an infinite being, I don't really concern myself with it too much.

@White: That'd be nice, but it has the pre-sin death problem.

Which isn't a problem at all if you interpret it differently.
