I'm watching
Baccano! right now and I have to say that I love the narration that Isaac and Miria give for each trailer. (Actually, I just love Isaac and Miria, period. They're my favorite characters so far.)
But sometimes it's more than just entertainment. Sometimes the narration reveals significant thematic issues, too. Think of
Trigun, for instance, where there's a little bit of philosophizing along with the trailer. I didn't find those
Trigun trailers that compelling, but still, you'd be missing something if you skipped them.
I can also think of at least one example where if you missed the narration that accompanied the trailer, you might have had trouble interpreting the relationship between two characters, because Character B never said "That's when I fell in love with Character A" DURING the episode, but came very close to saying that in the narration during the trailer for that episode.
I guess the way I think of it is that if the trailers are there, we're supposed to see them, so you're missing some of the intended experience if you skip them.
