I've recently fallen in love with the Lovely Complex soundtrack. It has a great variety of songs, all of which are pretty ^_^

For example, World's End
You can find out things about the past that you never knew. And from what you've learned, you may see some things differently in the present. You're the one that changes. Not the past.
- Ellone, Final Fantasy VIII

"There's a difference between maliciously offending somebody - on purpose - and somebody being offended by...truth. If you're offended by the truth, that's your problem. Hmm... generally speaking, I'm an eclectic when it comes to music, with emphases in soundtracks and classic rock. So for favorite anime soundtracks its kind of a hard choice. Especially when I'm watching a full 26-ep series every 2 weeks or so. But, the ones that have stuck in my mind are:

1. Gundam in general & Gundam Wing-the music was partly responsible for this becoming my first series that I took seriously, and with Gundam 0079, I find that the undertones are similar, which I'm guessing exist through almost the entire franchise. The mix of the orchestral and whatever JRock or JPop is available at the time of production... I LIKE it. Heh.

2. Fullmetal Alchemist, BOTH series. Though I favor the later series' stuff, since it seems almost all originally composed, where as the first borrowed directly from some pieces already in existence (and that's not a bad thing, it was used with great effect).

3. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann-if the series itself can start at 8/10 and then just go up from there to like... 34/10 or whatever, why can't the music? Heh, reminds me of that xkcd about engineers and music amps...

4. I quite liked what Last Exile had to offer in the way of music, it makes for some great times of both relaxation and excitement. Living and driving in SoCal, fun chase music for the freeways (within reason) is a MUST.

Honorable mentions (but no less awesome than the others listed above):

Tri-gun
Cowboy Bebop
Chobits
Some (not all) of The Galaxy Railways
Azumanga Dai'oh
Lucky Star
Haruhi

And the list goes on and on... like I said, I really like soundtracks. They take up 40% or more of my collection. I had to spin off the anime subsection into its own genre, eheh.

Sometimes I'm convinced that the only reason I watched the Tegami Bachi anime was to hear the great music.

Bakemonogatari's music was great, though I watch the show for more than just it.

I didn't realize how awesome Summer War's soundtrack was until I rewatched it but it is glorious.

I'm actually pretty surprised that I've only now really begun to notice music in anime though. I should probably rewatch Eureka Seven so I can love the soundtrack.

Let's see:

Fullmetal Alchemist
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Neon Genesis Evangelion

I have a thing for orchestral music, especially when certain events come up.

Darker Than Black (Both seasons and the OVA)
Cowboy Bebop
Ghost in the Shell

Actually, almost anything made by Yoko Kanno. She is beastly when it comes to music; whether it be jazz to techno. Especially opening themes (but Howl did Darker than Black's opening so...

And speaking of Jazz...
Baccano!

Been a huge fan of the old-time jazz theme in the show when I first heard it. The opening is one of my favorites, and some music can get you dancing out of your seat.

Coyote Ragtime

Almost nobody has heard of this anime, but the soundtrack is pretty addictive.

Death Note
L's theme is like a mix from the tubular bells in Exorcist. A mysterious sound more than scary though.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
From the opening to the end, the soundtrack is pretty neat. Especially Yuki's theme songs (Madobe Nite, Nagato vs Asakura, Nagato no Kouhaku, etc.)
"Because the World isn't as cruel as you take it to be." ~ Celty, Durarara!!

Well, along with the 3 aforementioned epically-awesome Death Note OST's (which are still my all-time favorite anime soundtracks right now) :) , some new close runner-ups are the 3 OST's from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and the 2 OST's from Moribito: Guardian Of The Spirit (Seirei no Moribito). All thoroughly excellent.

I love really mellow, simple sounds, so my favorite is Full Moon o Sagashite's soundtrack. I also really like the Princess Comet and Mahou Tsukai Tai! soundtracks. Basically anything that uses orgel or music box sounds.

"Sora o Miagete" - Full Moon o Sagashite
"Saigo no Suki" - Princess Comet
"Mata Ashita" - Mahou Tsukai Tai!

Really? You should check out this song from Lovely Complex, then!

Oh, and not to spam the thread , but I just recently listened to the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (and AC: Complete) soundtracks as well, and they're now tied with the Death Note OST's for my top-favorite anime soundtrack spot. I mean, come on-- if this isn't epically awesome, I don't know what is!:thumb:

Kira! Seriously though, Macross Frontier had a great soundtrack, though I guess that's to be expected when your show is about The Power of Music.

Add Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya to the list. Definately a good soundtrack.
