how is the manga? i haven't got the chance to read that yet, just watch the anime. it quickly became one of my favourites by the end of the first few episodes. so sad there isn't a season 2 yet <hopes>

ohhh. good to know. ありがと! i've heard it mentioned but it was never really explained. sometimes it's tricky to decide what can and can't be left out. i was told to use a person's name instead of あなた when at all possible.

Japanese is a strongly "speaker oriented" language. If you don't specify and it's not contextually influenced, you're the topic. Names are fine. I work with a Japanese nurse, and we "-san" each other to death.
