SAT Tomorrow.

Postby TGJesusfreak » Fri Nov 05, 2010 9:19 pm

Hey guys. My SAT is tomorrow (or today for those on the east coast), I'm not TOO stressed... but just pray that I can have full mental clarity of mind. Being homeschooled I've never really had a timed test before. So yeah, that's it.
just another rather self-centered prayer request lol XD

You'll probably be just fine. On the SAT, getting a perfect score doesn't matter so much as getting a decent score. That said, I'll pray.

Actually, there's one really big thing about timed tests: If you finish before the time limit (which almost always happens) go ahead and double-check all your answers. You may spot something you didn't before. Also, if one question is giving you trouble, skip it and go on, and then return to it later. Getting stuck on one question and forgetting the rest is one of the more easily-avoidable mistakes. Also, try to have fun answering the questions, and you'll get involved and forget the stress.

^ What Midori said.

Also, if you decide that you want to take it over again, have whoever homeschools you give you a few timed tests to prepare- it can be unnerving to arrive and not be used to it (and I was used to it, but had a hard time with the time crunch that they had!). Midori's tips can help you get the best out of the time that you do have.

EDIT: There are SAT test prep books out there. If you decide to retake it, then those have timed tests in them, too. They're expensive but worth it.

I'll be praying, TG. I'm sure you'll do great!

Adding to the excellent advice that Midori and Atria gave, if you have trouble on timed test, when you get to see how many questions are in each section and how long you get for the whole section, then you can calculate how much time you would have per question and divide it accordingly as your doing the test (or like Midori mentioned, feel free to skip around if a question is too hard, or even if you don't know the answer, make an educated guess).
I recommend wearing a watch if possible, because it's sometimes a pain to keep looking up at the clock on the wall. XD;
Concerning the essay (which is still on the SAT, right?), not too much advice can be given on this because people write differently. But, if you are the type to make outlines to follow for your essays (I'm one of those people), then you can devote either 5 or 10 minutes (depending how fast you write, 5 would be preferable though) to creating an outline. Then, you get writing.
Otherwise, you can just start writing and think of things as you go along, which can sometimes work fairly well as well. ^_^

But honestly, it's not nearly as hard as it seems. Just keep working along and you'll be fine. :3 Best of luck to you~

Definitely going to pray for ya TG, I know how hard you have been studying for the last two months, I think you'll do fine, you worked hard, you deserve it man, and don't stress the time too much, you'll do great!
And this I pray, that your love would abound still, more and more with real knowledge and all discernment. Be prepared to preach the gospel at a moment's notice. Do you know the gospel well enough to do so yourself? Be ready.

Thanks guys! And yeah, Midori is right. I Just did as much as I could with the time given. XD And UNFORTUNATLY, I forgot to bring a watch, even though I told myself to.

What's WORSE is that I was in one of 4 seats in the room and COULDN'T see the clock on the wall XD. and there were like, 28 seats XD! But overall I think I did pretty well.

ALSO I wasn't that stressed, I had a good time too... if only there was more time... because those reading passages and math questions were pretty fun! XD
