Blessed be the LORD my strength which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight:
My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me.

Sure, the American version was chopped up and censored (not to mention totally reworked), but I didn't know it at the time. I didn't even know it was Japanese. All I knew was that it had five robotic lions, an awesome theme song, and I loved it. Still do.

Superbook and The Flying House were the first anime I ever saw, and I was well aware even then that I liked 'em better than the other Bible story cartoons my church library had, but it wasn't until years later that I realized they were Japanese.
Beyond that, my memory is a little fuzzy. I know the first anime MOVIE I ever knowingly saw was Robot Carnival (oh SyFy, remember back when you were cool?), but I'm sure I'd seen a few scattered TV shows before that. Probably either Dragon Ball Z or Voltron.
