rocklobster (post: 1433210) wrote:1. Have you seen any of the Walden movies that weren't based on Narnia, like Holes or Bridge to Terebithia?
2. Favorite dinosaur?
3. Since Halloween is coming up, what's your favorite horror film?
4. Ever read or watch Dune? (If you haven't, I highly recommend checking out the David Lynch movie. There are varied opinions on it, but I found it enjoyable. Besides, it's the first time Patrick Stewart himself ever starred in a movie. Granted, he plays a small role with only four scenes, but still. Oh, and track down the director's cut. It makes waaay more sense. The theatrical version cut way too much out and leaves too much head-scratching.)

1. I saw Holes. That was a great film, based on a great book :) I also saw City of Ember. While that film wasn't NEARLY as popular as some of the others they've produced, I'd read the books beforehand and thought they filled in and brought the story to life in a fantastic way. Other than that, no.
2. All of them. Honestly, I haven't studied up enough to have a favorite- I love them all! XD
3. OOOH! I.... honestly am not sure. I think The Shining and The Exorcist tie for top honors.
4. I read the Dune Prequels, believe it or not. But I have yet to pick up the book, since I've seen how many sequel books there are, and that makes it intimidating. And I didn't know there was a movie! I think I'm gonna make a trip to the library now....

Midori (post: 1433240) wrote:Have you ever studied a programming language?
Do you know any HTML? (not a programming language)
What do you think about really dark chocolate, like 99% dark?

1. No. My mom's a computer programmer, and I admire her for it. I don't have the memory or interest to learn any programming languages, though.
2. Um, a little. But basically, I can change the color of your background. That's it.
3. I think that sounds like a garnish on a chocolate cake. If anyone can eat that straight, they have my admiration. It's just way too bitter for me.

Word of advice, stick to the ones written by Frank Herbert, who created the Dune books to begin with. Everyone who jumped on the bandwagon after he died didn't quite capture the original.

1. Yes- the one where Han proposes to Leia and a lot of the Star Wars Academy books. But they never really were my thing. Now my brother on the other hand, owns almost all of them!
2. OOOH! Growing Pains, The Torklesons, Brotherly Love (I WANT THIS SO BAD!), Home Improvement, and All in the Family.
3. Eh. Okay. Not my favorite superhero. I'm one of the few people on earth that doesn't like the Spoder-man movies.
4. Cool! I once watched their Dark Side of the Moon cd timed with the Wizard of Oz movie. It was awesome! And now I occasionally listen when I'm up for something different.

2. Do you like Led Zeppelin?
3. If I were to do another Let's Watch, would you participate?
4. Have you seen Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit? What did you think? (BTW, you can read the book it's based on! It's translated and everything!)
5. What are your favorite anime studios?

1. None. I do not have one, but I would LOVE a PS3. WooT!
2. THey're okay. Not my favorite.
3. YES! I would totally participate. And I would be totally hyped to see which anime you would pick.
4. YES! I loved it. The plot, the pacing, the music and the characters- Even though it occasionally feels a little slow, overall it's one of the best anime I've seen. I actually bought it because it was so good! I've been debating on whether I want to read the light novels, but I think that if the ever go for cheap enough, I'll pick them up.
5. Madhouse, by far. They produce the vast majority of anime that I watch and love. Second place is a tie between Bones and Ghibli.

more questions:
1. Favorite muppet? (If I already asked, you can skip. I won't mind)
2. Favorite puzzle-themed video game? (e.g. Tetris, Lemmings, Bejeweled)
3. What do you think of Peter Gabriel?
4. Ever read any Agatha Christie mysteries?

1. Fonzie! Wakka, wakka, wakka! Him and Gonzo.
2. Ohh! Hard one. I haven't played Tetris in a while, but I think Bejeweled tops it.
3. Who?
4. And Then There Were None. Great mystery. I keep meaning to read more, but then I worry that they won't be able to match it!

1. None. Now that I look back on them, they weren't all that great or interesting. I suppose the "best" one I could point to is the Robin Hood costume I helped my mom make when I was six.
2. The "Princess Ghost" I did one year. I wanted to be a princess, or a ghost, and couldn't decide between them. The costume was a mess.

I really don't/didn't like most of my costumes- they were always homemade and not that good, especially since Mom had control over them. That's how one year I was supposed to go as Michealangelo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.... but Mom wouldn't buy the mask. So I went as a human ninja turtle.... since she still insisted on dressing me in green and made a brown felt turtle shell for me. I still haven't forgiven her for that one.

Hey, at least she tried! Now for some Garth Nix questions:
1. In your opinion, which series was better: The Seventh Tower or Keys to the Kingdom?
2. Favorite Seventh Tower character?
3. Favorite Keys to the Kingdom character?
4. Have you gotten to the final book in the Keys to the Kingdom series? If so, what did you think of the ending (I thought it was one of the strangest endings I've ever read, personally. I had to re-read the chapter to understand what had happenned)?
5. Have you read the Old Kingdom trilogy?

The Keys to the Kingdom is a great series, btw.
1. What do you think stops a character from becoming a Mary Sue/Gary Stu?
2. Worst musician you ever listened to? (note: I only want ones who've actually recorded stuff)
3. Worst anime you ever watched?
4. Who's better: Satoshi Kon or Hayao Miyazaki?

1. When they deal with problems realistically. When some of the problems they have are ones that everyone would have.
2. So I can't name the local garage bands? XD Um, I can't think of any at the moment that were particularly horrendous
3. Kemeko DX. Just an aweful show of an anime.
4. For personal preference because I'm into darker stuff, I would have to say that I own more Satoshi Kon. In fact, while I only own 2 Miyazaki movies, I own all of Satoshi Kon's works. But my deepest regret is that they didn't team up and make a movie. It would have been amazing.

1. My laptop of awesome is an Asus.
2. UUUUHHH.... Well, normally it's Paprika, but during Christmas, Tokyo Godfathers.
3. Complete Monster. They're fun to try and play with morality and good vs. evil with. There's just something about evil....
4. At the moment, I really like Kalifina, Yui Makino, and Utada Hikaru. But I'm always expanding my collection :)

1. Ever watch the X-files?
2. Ever read The Invisibles comic book (if you haven't, I suggest you pick up the first graphic novel. It's weird and it actually was done on drugs. I'm serious. Grant Morrison, the creator, uses peyote for his creative process)
3. Are there any villains you can't bring yourself to like?

1. Huge fan, here! The truth is indeed out there!
2. Nope. My library carries quite a few, I'll see whether I can get my hands on it- it sounds FUN! XD
3. Ones that die immediately after turning good. I mean, seriously? I want to see the 'after' of them!
4. Never seen 'em, even with all the horror-movie-watching I was doing! But then again, I haven't seen Halloween, either....

1. I could have told you when I was thirteen, but since I haven't read the series since then, I don't remember....
2. TIE! The Shining (which was an excelent adaptation that took the heart of the novel and, even though it did go it's own way with it, managed to make a classic horror film that's on most people's top ten) vs A.I. (a beautiful, moving story that manages to combine questions about what it means to be human and the curiosity of a little boy robot that wants to be nothing more than one- one of the first movies to make me cry)
3. No. But I think I have a friend with a CD of theirs.... I shall have to ask to borrow it ^.^

2. I keep meaning to read the Percy Jackson books, but I have a lot on my plate right now ^.^"

I wouldn't be surprised if Netflix had it. Netflix would probably be better, what with so many video stores out of business.
1. Have you checked out the Nostalgia Critic or Atop the Fourth Wall (they're websites and are definitely worth checking out)?
2. Ever watch the Aliens movies?

They probably would, but I can't afford Netflix on my budget ^.^" I'm scrimping as much as I can since I still have a ways to go before I graduate.

1. I LOVE Nostalgia Critic, and watched a bit of 4th Wall- 4th wall was pretty good.
2. I've seen Alien vs. Predator. I thought it was kinda dumb, but I want to see the first (Director cut) Alien movie. My library only has the second one, though!

1. The manga is on my to-read list. I thought about watching the anime, but decided that since the ending to the anime isn't the proper ending to the manga- and I can read manga faster- I'd go that route.
2. Nope! I want to someday.
3. Never heard of them ^.^
4. YES! I own a few of the comic collections of his.

1. Yes. Mostly textbooks, but a few social commentaries about the historical effects and aftereffects of various political moves.
2. No. And I have absolutely no desire to. Thrillers aren't my thing.
3. Nope. Again, never wanted to- my brother probably has, though. He loves action/thrillers.

1. Have you ever played any of the Lego games?
2. Did you play with Legos as a kid?
3. What's your dream car?

1. Lego Star Wars. I have it for the PC. But you can't win the game because of issues with the camera angles in the last (VERY LAST) level.
2. Nope. My parents had wooden blocks that they had gotten from family, so I had those- they wouldn't break as easily as Legos and were free.
3. Never thought about it. But it would be a hybrid, for sure.
