I'm sorry for the gravedig, but my top ten has changed quite a bit since I last posted and I want to update. A thread on another forum asked for the poster to explain just a bit about why they like the specific series. I really like this idea so I decided to copy my post from there. The OP also encouraged people to say what they think their top ten says about them; for example the OP poster on that forum said he was a “big jock girl with bits of 13 year old boyâ€

1) 5cm Per Second. The art, the characters, the themes, the soundtrack, and the realistic emotions. [movie]

2) Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro. Pure fun. [movie]

3) Giant Robo. Superb story, awesome characters, and very high production values. I don't even like mecha generally, but I like this one. [ova]

4) Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Almost as good as the manga, and that is saying something. I don't fault it the first thirteen episodes given that they are covered more appropriately in the first series. [tv series]

5) Sword of the Stranger. Samurai action bliss. Very good looking movie (watch in blu-ray if possible) with the best animated sword fights I have ever seen. [movie]

6) Trust and Betrayal. Rurouni Kenshin is my nostalgia series, so I already love it more than I should. Trust and Betrayal took that beloved series and emphasized all of the dark, meaningful, and thought provoking aspects of it while giving it a thick veneer of high budget polish. [ova]

7) The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Simple slice of life, done perfectly and with fine humor. Except it isn't simple. Nor is it just slice of life. [movie]

8) Durarara!!. Second half lacks compared with the first, but both have enough trope inversions and kick-rear characters to more than make up for it. [tv series]

9) Cowboy Bebop. Everybody likes this show for exactly the same reason: it is cool. Really, really cool. [tv series]

10) Cromartie High School. Anime comedy that manages to be hilarious without relying on a single otaku in-joke (although it does have a few, for older fans). (tv series)

What does this say about me? Well, it looks like I am a pretty boring guy; willing to give just about any genre a shot so long as it isn't overt or typical shoujo. Also, I seem to be impatient, judging by the average length of the series. So, yeah, a boring and impatient normal guy with a dislike for pointless romance or drama without a reason.

I realized that I don't watch anime that often because I play video games instead (though most of them are anime RPGs...)

1. Durarara!!

Guess I could update my list too....

1. Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood

2. Full Metal Alchemist (original series)

3. Haibane Renmei

4. Howl's Moving Castle

5. Death Note (though I prefer the movies' version of the story)

6. Wolf's Rain

7. Trigun

8. Spirited Away

9. Kodomo no Omocha

10. Gunslinger Girl

This list shows a pretty good sampling of what I like in anime: I mostly go for the action-packed shounen stuff, but over the years my heart has warmed more and more to the quieter stories, and now I can even find something to like in a select few shoujo ones.

My 10 ten anime are:

1. Rurouni Kenshin (When they stayed true to Watsuki's storyline)
2. Trigun
3. Cowboy Bebop
4. FullMetal Alchemist
5. Ghost in the Shell
6. Robotech
7. Ponyo
8. Spirited Away
9. Castle of Cagliostro
10. Millenium Actress

It's honestly hard to rank everything after number 3 as I keep remembering great anime that I enjoy or enjoyed watching that still touch my soul. As a result, this list is by no means a finalized list, except for the first 3. I never foresee those ever losing their spots.

Ooh, fun! Since I don't watch much anime, can I put my top 10 mangas, some of which are animes?

1. +Anima (and if it was an anime, it would probably be my favorite)
2. Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE (which is both my second favorite manga and my favorite anime because of the OVAs)
3. Ouran High School Host Club
4. Kamichama Karin
5. DNAngel
6. Game Plan
7. Fruits Basket
8. Shugo Chara
9. Hetalia: Axis Powers
10. Princess Tutu

Okay, so most of those have an anime too that I also like.
