Atria - my favorite Michael Grant book so far is Gone. I tried reading his older police stories, but I just couldn't get into them. Too long, far beyond my interest level. My favorite banned book--the Bible. I haven't been reading much recently, but I did enjoy Christopher Paolini's books (Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr [which I haven't finished yet]).

If you're writing fiction:
Up to 1,000 words: short story, flash fiction, vignette
1,000-6,000 words: short story
6,000-15,000 words:long story or novelette
15,000-45,000 words: novella
45,000-120,000 words: novel (80,000 words is common)
Middle-grade novels can range from 10,000 to 30,000 words, and young adult novels can range from 25,000 to 50,000.
