If I cared about Facebook or thought internet petitions/groups did any sort of good, I'd join it.
I mean like I said, it's sad, but I understand. Their profits have dropped since they introduced the new bag, and as a business they have to do what they can to turn a profit. Doesn't mean I have to like it.
Times like these I wish CEOs could say "Y'know, even if our profits dropped 11%, we're still doing pretty good, I don't really need that ivory backscratcher, we'll do what we think is right and keep our integrity."

"We are on a journey with compostable packaging," says Gonzalez. Frito-Lay is showing its commitment by sticking with the noisy but compostable packaging for the sixth flavor, its top-selling Original, she says.
"We are applying what we have learned from this first generation to get to the next generation of environmentally friendly packaging," says Gonzalez.

There may be reasons why a larger international company can't use paper bags that wouldn't apply to a smaller company...like, paper would be easy for bugs to eat/bite into, so you might not be able to ship paper-bagged chips as far or something.
Also the article now that I reread it says it's only getting rid of the packaging for five of the six kinds. What's the one kind that's going to keep the noisy packaging I wonder?

The CEO who said "Y'know, I'm okay with only making ten million dollars this year instead of 11 million dollars" is the one with integrity.
EDIT: It's not like Frito-Lay isn't a multi-million dollar company that makes products other than Sun Chips after all. And their profits OVERALL didn't drop 11%. Just sales of Sun Chips dropped 11%. When you're the company also making Doritos, Fritos, and Lay's potato chips, an 11% drop in sales of ONE product, to me, isn't worth getting rid of the bag. That's why I said I wish the CEO would have integrity instead of going "Oh no, I won't be able to buy that ivory backscratcher now!"

Maybe I haven't eaten Sun Chips in a while, but does it really matter how loud the chip bag is?
