Personally, I knew something was up the moment I saw the line about the director meeting Waterson in person. Because, you know, Bill Waterson is such an outgoing guy who's always having people over...

That gives me a lot of hope. Waterson has been, as you said, exceptionally guarded with the property. The fact that he agreed to anything says volumes about it...
