Squirrel trouble.

Talk about anything in here.

Squirrel trouble.

Postby christianfriend » Wed Sep 01, 2010 2:31 pm

Approximately an hour ago, while I was downstairs by myself, I started to hear strange noises on the roof near the chimney that leads to my Grandmother's stove. They suddenly got louder and louder until I realized there was something IN the chimney trying it's hardest NOT to fall. The noise stopped after a few minutes....and there was silence for a while. But it started up again, this time even louder! There was squeaking and scratching and finally the scratching started getting closer and closer to the stove until I heard a light thud.

Ladies and Gentlemen...there is a squirrel in my Grandma's stove.
No, there is no fire, or else I wouldn't really have much of an issue but a bad smell, or maybe a good smell, I wouldn't know since I've never seen or smelt a cooked squirrel.. But anyway....

Any ideas on what I should do about this problem folks? I'm pretty darn scared about just letting it out and run wild in my Grandma's house, all dusty and ashy >.> and I'm all alone too. Any thoughts or comments?

Get a box and put the squirrell in it then release the squirrell in the wild... or keep it as a pet!

Conclusion!!!!

Folks, it turned out to be a crow in the stove. It flew out and started flying into the windows, so me and my Mom had to run around the room to catch it. It was successfully released outside though, and he did not seem to be hurt at all, just shaken. We dusted him off and sent him on his way, hopefully to be reunited with his fellow feathery critters on the roof.

I'm glad it wasn't a squirrel though, I think it would have been much more difficult XP

Seriously, google the phrase 'remove squirrel from property' along with the state you live in, and something will turn up. There will probably be a variety of services that will get the squirrel out and release it somewhere where it won't bother you again. Just remember to double-check the credentials with the Better Buisiness Bureau

EDIT: Got ninja's by the OP. Great news that it's out!

Call animal control to come get the squirrel out of the stove. After that call someone to come put a screen on the chimmney to prevent any more animals from entering.
I have chased a squirrel around someones house and inside the fire station I am a memebr of before. You just have to give them a stright shot for a exit and no way past you to hide, climb or jump on to something.

next time keep it as a pet as a warning for other animals to watch out.

The squirrel turned into a crow? Shapeshifter! You've got to watch out. I think you're being spied on by Randall Flagg and you just released him.

Why would anything want to shape shift into a crow?
Maybe it was a crow that accidentally shifted into a squirrel when it was over the chimney...

You'll need to read Stephen King's The Stand to discover that one. But here's a start. They can fly long distances. Can see long distances. Are common enough to not draw attention to themselves. Hence, they make the perfect scout/spy.

Why do people hate crows anyway? I think they get a bum rap for no real reason. Crows are pretty awesome in my book.

My wife loves crows and ravens both. The Ravens at least I kind of want to smack. That's a personal experience thing, though, as a camper.

Hey Crows will run hawks away. We have bird feeders for song birds and anything else(Including Squirrels) and a hawk hits on the birds feeding including the doves. We put crow decoys around our feeders and the hawk won't come near the feeders. Hawks and crows are enemies of each other.
I have squirrels that will sit and wait for me to put food in the feeders in the mornings.
One thing about the hawk is that it grabed a rat in our yard.

Crows are disliked because they are in many ways the hyena of the bird world. Shifty opportunists. They eat farmers' nut and fruit crops. They eat eggs and baby birds. They are carion eaters too so they aren't very clean animals. They travel in packs and gang up on other birds (hawks included).

but hawks do the same back

I'd want a hawk as a pet, but crows are pretty cool too

Hawks eat other birds, yes, but they don't destroy crops or gang up to run out the competition (only once have I seen a hawk chase a crow). I was just pointing out the reasons many people don't like crows, and one of those reasons is because they rob nests.

Due to their lack of pickiness it comes to food, the crow is a very successful predator, I'll give them that, but I really don't care for them--there are just too many where I live. Driving down the freeway certain times a day I'll see swarms of them that blacken the sky like something out of The Birds.
