Which way to turn?

Postby K. Ayato » Sun Aug 29, 2010 4:46 pm

Hey, guys. I need your prayers. Right now I'm confused about something. Growing up (and being the eldest and then still living at home), it was drilled into me that I had to work and support myself if I was gonna get what I wanted in life. My folks paid for almost everything (except for my cell phone and other things I was able to pay for in time), and any time I wasn't working, I was goaded into working my tail off to find and snag another job. I was told I lived like a leech (taking but not giving). I won't go into much detail, but there was some truth to that.

Now that I'm married and starting a new chapter in my life in a new place, I'm a little confused. I'm no longer under my parents' roof, but that mindset is still deeply rooted in me. I understand the value of work and have been searching, but so far I've not gotten any leads. Also, due to hearing about how I lived life as a leech, I've this deep fear I'll be that way towards my husband. I know that's not true. I understand God established that the husband is the primary provider for the home and the family, but right now I'm unsure of what I'm to do. True, he's in the Navy and we can easily live off the earnings. But I don't know if that's what God wants me to do, let alone if my husband wants me to work.

It's definitely something I need to really pray about and talk over with my husband. I'm not against work, not at all. I'm just not sure at the moment if that's what God wants me to do. Please keep this in prayer. I've been praying for a job since I arrived at our new place, but only this morning did it occur to me that it might or might not be God's plan for me at this time in my life. Thanks!

Hang in there, K-chan  I'll be praying ^__^

It'll take some time to get used to living away from your parents (even if they're close in distance). Just take it one step at a time ^^

Hey Carla

Have you thought that if you go to work that it can be therapy when he is in the navy. it can keep you busy and you'll have your own income to use for things you need. From a person who lived and married in the Service life eventhough Sp1 is retired, I need somthing to keep me occupied so that I won't have to put xtra worry on me and on him. I was working when I met Sp1 and I keeping working so that I can independent but still contribute to the bills etc.
Keep the faith that God will provide and help you on the diffucult decision. If you need anything or some freindly advice from a wife of a retired Commander of the USN you know were to find me.

What I believe is what I will become. I believe I am special and that there will never be another like me...not ever. I believe I have been blessed with certain talents that will allow me to serve a purpose higher that my own. I believe we are all connected and that despite our differences we are one. I believe in the power or love and its ability to heal all wounds. I believe there are no acts of coincidence only acts of God that work miraculously in my life. I believe that the lessons I learn will be the lessons I teach.

K.Ayato,

Yeah I can relate to this. My mom is a workaholic, I was self-sufficient financially by the time I was 13 when it came to food and clothing. It can be very difficult to get out of that mindset. Currently I'm forced to not be able to work due to a few circumstances, it definitely was difficult to face. I tried to work anyways, even with doctors against it. It made things worse. It is my opinion, if you feel God is telling you not to work, then you shouldn't. I would stay open to both possibilities, God will help you through one of those doors. Praying!
I am on the forefront of battle against the demons of earth. All Praise and Glory be given to God Forever and Ever!

Hey, K!

In my family, my dad is disabled and can't work. At all. Even housework is out of the question due to the nature of his disability. So my mother is the one who provides for the family. While they never insisted that I work, they did make sure that I contributed in the house by making dinner, helping my brother do his homework, helping with the laundry and general housework because my mother just didn't have the time.

If you feel that God's telling you not to work, and your husband feels the same way (very important- you never know when something might happen to you or your spouse, and you should have enough money to put away for that), then by all means, don't work. But if you're used to being outside the house and doing things, then look at volunteering options. Volunteer at the local library, or hospital, or at community events. Those can get you out and about, doing stuff, meeting people.... and if you ever do need a job, that type of networking can lead to jobs you might not have known about before.

Praying for you! Have you ever thought of volunteering? This way you're giving back and working. You may not be getting paid but you aren't being "lazy" either.
