Well I started in this cup going for England and Japan, and USA too. They all got knocked out. Proud of USA and Japan for making it to round of 16, but England, shame on you! you guys invented the game! Also, wth brazil?! So I decided Go Argentina! Then they got killed by Germany. So, go Germany.

Since everyone I've rooted for before Spain has lost, I think I'm going to be hoping for a Spanish victory here.

I'm glad that this time someone will win the WC who has never won it before (there have only been 7 WC winning countries since the tournament's inception).

I think the smart money is on Spain b/c of their talent level, but neither defense is anything to write home about. The Dutch could take Spain on the counter. If Robben can outpace Capdevila, the Dutch can cause some problems. Kuyt will have to run his legs off tracking back to double up on Villa tho.

I'm going...Holland 2-1 in extra time. Some of my favorite players are Spanish, but I have backed Holland as my dark horse, so I can't abandon them now.

Man, it's going to be a good game.

Do not doubt the powers of the octopus.

ALSO OCTOPUS CAN BE WRONG

In the final, I think that the Dutch will not be out-possessed the way Germany was yesterday. That doesn't mean the Dutch will win, but if they can limit Spain's chances they have a chance to win. Switzerland beat Spain because even though Spain had a ton of chances, they didn't go in. It might require a bit of luck to beat them.

Socctopus can never be wrong. Socctopus is the destroyer of nations.

DIE MANNSCHAFT!

Bam! Third place! Congrats guys, you did amazing! That was n intense game.

Anyone else watching the final game? I'm a little surprised at how slow it's going. Not a single point yet on either team. Couple close calls, lots of cards in the first half. Who are you rooting for? I'm kind of rooting for Spain, but I would not be opposed to Netherlands taking it either.

Go Oranje!

But I'm not sure that either team will find a way to score now, they are looking tired. May as well flip a coin to pick the winner, it seems!

Ugly game. It will take me 4 years to recover. I think I can still manage to root for Man U in the meantime, though.

WOW. EPIC GAME. The ref was freakishly accurate with all his calls. And HOLY CRAP Netherlands loves to play dirty, haha. They both played VERY VERY well and I wasn't sure who was going to take it. But Spain won!

I loved how nobody took the goal seriously because everyone assumed it was offsides. Then they were all "lol jk GOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAL".

And holy crap. SO MANY YELLOW CARDS. WOT? XD

Well, enough soccer for me to see in the past month to conclude it still has some serious flaws that will prevent it from ever gaining a foothold in the US. Most significant: called fouls that aren't; non-called fouls that are; offsides and its many interpretations amongst the officials; and the acting that goes along with all of it.

Nevertheless, congratulations to Spain, who certainly showed up to play, and condolences to the Netherlands, who squandered a number of opportunities and, in the end, were just less lucky than Spain.

And, in the "at least there's one redeeming thing about this game", there are actually two:

1. Socctopus.

2. Farewell, vuvuzelas!!

To be fair, the octopus was far too late in picking Spain to win.

EA Sports predicted Spain to win on June 3rd.

Now I'm doubly impressed -- the Octopus read the EA Sports Press Release without an Internet connection! All Hail the Psychic Octopus!

So now it's all over and everyone is wondering what else there is to watch on TV. Others are expecting all the road works and crime to start again; interestingly the crime rate actually dropped during the WC, apparently up to 70% in some places. It seems EVERYONE really was too busy watching soccer this month.

Well done to Spain and the socctopus.

Last picture from me about the world cup is of posters my sister made when she and my brother-in-law went to see the 3rd/4th game in PE.
