Ah, so the ending IS different in the manga. The anime ending is pretty bad and basically goes like this:
The world gets destroyed, Chise shields Shuuji so he survives but now he's the only person in the entire world, he finds her body and it crumbles to dust in his hands, but her "soul" survives.

So it joins with his body and he starts hallucinating about seeing her and he sits there like an idiot holding absolutely nothing (but in his mind he's holding her) as the world burns around him, as the only person alive on a dead world.

The end.
Yeah. That's why I want my time and money back from that anime.

I'm reading (and going to be watching) Black Jack. I don't think many people read or watch that series, even though it's relatively popular ^_^

I think you'd be right. Although I personally hated Pinoko (and dropped the series because of her), it was a very interesting medical drama. Made me think of an early version of House, TBH!

I just started watching the .Hack Liminality OVA, and I don't think many people watched that one.

Isn't that the one that you'd get one episode of it with the games?

I watched the first episode (because I bought the first game) and watched it and it was pretty cool, but since I thought the game sucked I didn't bother buying any of the other ones, so obviously I wasn't able to finish the anime.

I actually thought Saikano was good. Although to be fair, I did want to strangle the male lead.

Aww, you hated Pinoko? She drove me crazy at first, but now I think she's kinda cute :)
It's nice to find someone else who's read it, though! ^_^

I haven't heard anyone on this site mention Jyu-oh-sei or nabari no ou, which are the two shows that pretty much got me into anime. Maybe I'm just missing something, or no one cares enough to ever discuss them, or has no one seen them? They're fairly good, I think, and no nudity or sexuality, just violence and blood, and jyu-oh-sei has some language.

I've seen a few eps of Nabari no Ou although I ended up dropping it because another series caught my attention. I probably need to pick it back up again. Regardless, what I did see what pretty good and at least it's one anime that doesn't ignore the backgrounds.

Seen some of Nabari no Ou- thought it was pretty good! But I got caught up in other stuff when it was coming out :red: Jyu-oh-sei I've actually red the first few chapters of the manga. Interesting stuff.

Yeah, I haven't seen many people mention Nabari no Ou. I'm on episode 21 (or somewhere around there) and have thoroughly enjoyed it. A good ninja show.

Another one that I've watched that I haven't seen a lot of people talk about is Kaze no Stigma. It was pretty good. It was probably rated TV-14 for violence. There were a few scenes of nudity but it wasn't for sexuality, it was for ceremony-type purposes. And then there was one scene of a character's mind theater that strongly hinted sexuality, but nothing was ever shown. The vision ended before it got anywhere.
But other than that, good show.

Gad Guard. It used to come on G4 back when it used to feature anime. But it isn't as popular as I thought I discovered. I think its a pretty cool series.

I saw that one! I've been watching it too. Got two more episodes to go. Drat, if G4 hadn't decided to be stupid and stop playing most of their shows and go into Network Decay, they might still get people to watch their stupid network. I won't be surprised when G4 suddenly disappears off the face of the earth.:shake:

I know. It was such a shame too. :shady: It was one of the first shows I saw on that channel and I got attached to it quickly. I had to wait til' Funimation put the shows on their channel to finish watching the series and catching the episodes I missed. I miss the old G4.

Bokurano is so, so good. Giant robot anime with focus on human ethical dilemmas? Yes please.

I will just list a few of my favs here:

Yakitate!! Japan - It's about baking bread.... One of the few comedies I have seen Japan get right. The best parts are the over the top reactions to the bread tasting. You will just have to trust me that it's good.

Cromartie High School - Yeah, I don't understand why this isn't more popular. It's a comedy/parody about delinquents in a high school. Oh and one is a robot...and one is a gorilla ....and one is Freddy Mercury

Tekkon Kinkreet - Very violent OAV about two children in a street gang society that need each other to survive. Great mood builder.

Moyashimon - You see, there's this kid and he can see microbes, but they are like chibi plush dolls to him. It's a skill that comes in handy in the farming school. Very well written.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - If you have seen this, you are my new best friend. Fighters with super powers called 'stands' look for Dio. A vampire with a stand that is a mystery to the heroes trying to stop him.

@Sheol777-

Haven't seen any of the JoJo anime, but am an avid fan of the manga. I'll have to check it out when I'm done with that list of 500 other anime on the watch-list. :-P

I've heard Mazinkaiser mentioned. I'm a HUGE Mazinger and all-round Super Robot fan, particularly with Go Nagai works. I recently got ahold of the raws for one of his more obscure anime series, God Mazinger, and have been watching it. Here's the basic premise:

Boy lives normal life in present day. One day boy is summoned by an ancient priestess from thousands of years ago to go back in time, somehow activate God Mazinger, a large stone guardian/deity, and defend the kingdom of Mu from an evil dinosaur army. Unlike Mazinger or Getter Robo, the main character docks with the statue by literally jumping into its body and bringing it to life. No rocket punches or breast fire here...as God Mazinger is more or less an animated golem. But it does sport a wicked sword. ^_^

I can recommend this only to those who are hardcore about their Super Robots or really big fans of Go Nagai. I'm both, so I can stand not having any subtitles and having to do my best to figure out what the heck is going on. Actually, I rather enjoy doing that sometimes. :-P

I take it you haven't seen many giant robot anime. XD

Lately, I have been watching Yuusha Reideen, a super robot show from the mid 1970s. It is not subbed and sometimes I am unsure of what's going on, but it's still pretty enjoyable for the most part. It was a benchmark show as far as super robots are concerned; also Tomino Yoshiyuki directed the first half of it which kind of boggles my mind.

La Corda D'Oro is one I've just started watching (and reading the manga, for the same matter). It's not a "wow! amazing!" shojo show and manga, but I love it for the fact that the entire plot pretty much revolves around classical music and those who play it. Basically, it's like Ouran HSHC but much less funny-it has more serious parts in it. And romance. Can't forget the romance. Yup...for a classical music geek like me, it's awesome! (Plus, the flute player [my instrument, btw], is pretty awesome!!)

Quite. From what I can tell, "Real Robot" anime are more popular up there in your place, and their stories/plots feature exactly that.

And as for me, I can't recall the exact Japanese title but it went somewhere along the lines of "Leda: The Fantastic Adventures of Yoko". It was an OVA movie from the 80s. Too bad that it was only so, this has good potential as a full TV series.

Yeah, real robot shows are more popular in the US than super robots (but super robots are popular on the internets!). I like both, personally, but apparently a lot of mecha fans stick to one or the other.

Haibane Remnei is a anime that isn't as commercialized, but is a must-see.

I won't go so far as to say no one else here has watched it, but no one really talks about Those Who Hunt Elves. It's a favorite of mine. It's also one of the few shows I love the dub of much more than the sub. Junpei's voice actor is fantastic.
